Try using the wonderful search function we have on this site.

![]() You can, but you don't need to do any welding. Swap the metal bracket under the 6th gen seat onto the 7th gen seat and then use the 6th gen rails. Easier said than done but it's not hard at all... |

the seats in my 7g have airbags in the sides, which I'm sure would make them heavier than stock 6gc seats, the non-airbag ones are probably about the same weight

I was originally going to take pictures but it's really not hard so I didn't bother making a write up. Here's the general idea of what you have to do-
Remove the 6g seats from the car. Get a flat head screw driver and start by removing the plastics coverings on each side of the seat. Here is where all the mounting tabs are- ![]() To get the height-adjustment knob off, take a rag and pull it across the c-clip to remove it. (You can see it in the picture) Or a flathead screw driver works too. Then remove the brackets from the seat- 4 bolts on the bottom, and there are maybe 2 on each side of the back cushion. Once the bolts are out the seat should more or less come apart from the bracket. There is a bar that runs through the bottom of the back-cushion for the 'reclining' function. This is the hardest part (you'll see) of the whole swap when you're putting it back together. Once you have the cushions and brackets removed, start by removing the metal support from the bottom of the seat. There are hog-ties and a plastic 'rail' they you need to remove. ![]() Once they're removed, the metal support piece will come away from the cushion. You need to swap this piece from the 6g cushion to the 7g cushion. The bottom cushion of the two seats is identical, but the "metal support piece" has the two front holes in a different place, that is why you need to swap it from the old 6g seat to the 7g seat (so you can bolt the seat to the 6g brackets). Once you have that swapped, you can start putting the seat back together. The bar that runs through the bottom of the back-cushion can be tricky to put in without the seat falling apart. It helps if you thread the bolts in just slightly to keep the cushion in place while you're aligning that bar. (you'll see what I'm talking about when you go to do it) Once the bar is back in, tighten the 8 seat bracket bolts and test the reclining function to make sure you got the bar in there correctly. If it works, you're ready to start on the other front seat. ![]() Hope these instructions help. Post back if you need any help. |

So I am in the middle of this project myself, with the seats apart in front of me. Can anyone confirm that the picture he has up of the bottom of the 6g seat is in fact the newer style 6g seat that wasn't the same as the 94 ones? I am running into a much different looking seat bottom and it is keeping me from getting these swapped over. I'm about to try welding this up instead..

When you get to the part putting the seat back together, the back of the seat doesn't have any place to screw it in since we are using the 6g brackets. so what do you do there?

how did you put your seat back together? sorry i read your post wrong, I used the 6th gen rails and seat bottom complete assembly and swapped the foam and leather seat cover from the 7th gen. The seat backs for the 7th gen and 6th gen bolt in exactly the same with two bolts and a solid steel bar that runs across. the steel bar fits into a small notch on each side. I can try to get pictures later. so theoretically if you wanted 7th gen seats you could just swap the back of the seat over and keep your 6th gen bottoms (which have a bit more support on the sides..) I don't think the metal pan on the bottom matters for the plastic covers. i think its more of which brackets you use. cause im using the 6th gen brackets, so im using the plastic from the 6th gen seats. This post has been edited by hokuten3: Dec 11, 2010 - 6:39 PM -------------------- ...5sFREAK...

my seats are in the car. I used 95 celica brackets, rails, seat pan and plastics. I took the cushion and leather from the 7th gen seat and put them on the 6th gen seat pan. Then I bolted the 7th gen back to the 6th gen bracket. You could just bolt the 7th gen back into an existing 6th gen set up if all you want is to change that part.
see pics (7th gen seat bracket, notice the gray seat belt buckle) ![]() ![]() as long as you have 95 or newer seats in your car this is a very easy swap. hokuten3, I'm not sure why your bolts are different sizes, mine were exactly the same. i just purchase a set but it got rained on...starting to smell...off topic, but any idea to get rid of it and get a clean wash....putting it out in the sun isn't an option as it is winter time now...too cold and moist. i thought about calling the upholstery cleaning company to use their chemicals to clean it and dry vac it up...do you guys think that is a feasible idea and think it'll work cleaning the fabric and getting the odor out along with any mold if is has any starting in the cushions? (similar idea to cleaning the carpets) any thoughts to my plan?
I will post a video of a how to that way it will be easier to follow this upcoming weekend! ![]() |

I usually rent the Rug Doctor for things like that or right after buying a car, I'll clean the interior. You'll be thoroughly surprised what comes out of those seats or the carpet. One time I cleaned what looked to be fairly clean carpet, and it pulled out so much dirt and "stuff" that it looked like maple syrup when I was emptying it. Must have been many cups of coffee over the years or something...lol Bring the seats inside with you, preferably near an air vent or some kind of heat source. A hairdryer works pretty well at drying them too.
If you decide to go that route, here's a $10 coupon. http://www.partywithapro.com/Assets/Pdf/RugDoctorSavings.pdf |

so as long as you have 95 seat rails and stuff you can just take the cushion of the 7g and bolt them to the 6g hardware?

so as long as you have 95 seat rails and stuff you can just take the cushion of the 7g and bolt them to the 6g hardware? you actually take the foam cushion off of the metal seat pan and put it onto the metal seat pan of the 6th gen set. It clips right on and then a few zipties and its good to go.. Like I've said, you can just keep the 6th gen bottom cushion if you like it better. Just swap over the seat back and your done. |

I think I have some spare charcoal colored 6th gen seat plastics...I'll have to check. If so, you can have them. Compare your 7th gen plastics to the pic I posted on the first page of the 6th gen plastics. It's been so long ago that I can't remember anymore, but I THINK I did use the 7th gen plastics when I swapped the seats into the car. I know I have a set of 7th gen plastics in my basement, and should have a spare set of 6th gen platics, I'll have to compare them to see where the mounting points are since I don't have my 7th gen seats anymore. One slight difference with the 7th gen seat bottom is that the height adjustor is in a slightly different spot, about an inch away from the 6th gen location IIRC. Not a big deal but if your 7th gen seat cushion is well used, the dye may be slightly worn in a ring around where the old knob location was and where the new one is. Very unnoticeable unless you're looking for it, but it is there. @zoik. Disconnect the battery from the 7th gen, wait for a few minutes, and then remove the airbags in the seat. |

sorry, i meant i read a forum stating only 3 of the 4 mounting holes of the 7gc seat bracket(whole rail assembly) fits the 6gc holes on the floor....
one last thing....were you able to still use the 7gc seat sliders? i really like the fact that the handle to slide the seats is all-around in comparison to the 6gc which has a small handle on the corner of the seat to lift up for adjustment (sliding effect)? started to remove and i think i will weld instead. replacing the metal support pan with the 7gc cushion was hard because it doesn't completely cover the foam...i am afraid of messing of the fabric just in case the sharp edges cuts and tears the cloth.

so as long as you have 95 seat rails and stuff you can just take the cushion of the 7g and bolt them to the 6g hardware? you actually take the foam cushion off of the metal seat pan and put it onto the metal seat pan of the 6th gen set. It clips right on and then a few zipties and its good to go.. Like I've said, you can just keep the 6th gen bottom cushion if you like it better. Just swap over the seat back and your done. that sounds easy enough. i want to do it in the furture, but i want to find clothe seats instead. all the junked 7gens around here are all leather so far ![]() -------------------- st205 powered ss3 coupe

Are you sure they are not 96 and newer because my 95 does not have the 4 bolts on the under side of the seat cushion. They seam to be spot welded? do you know what i mean? Also the handle to move the seat back and forth is just a handle bar and does not go the entire length of the seat like the gen 7 adjustment bar does. -------------------- |
