Seriously guys, I cannot decide. I only plan on throwing down around $3.5k on one of these and because the SC300 falls within my price range here in California, has given me another option to look at. I wanted another (eventually) project car that must remain as a daily driver until my conversion is complete next year before I can really touch it. So I just wanted to see what your thoughts are. I honestly am getting anxious to just grab another car, although no real MR2's are coming my way.

N/A's are going as low as $1300 up to $2600, MR2 Turbos have too much stuff on them that folks are selling and going for $6k and higher. I know there has to be some available in between, so this poll is basically asking if I should wait. Or if I should just go ahead and grab a SC300.

Ok, thank you for your reply. Any reason why you would take the MR2 Turbo vs the SC300? Maybe like some pros and cons, or just any potential bias? I am interested in hearing why, because seriously for the price... I have a greater chance of getting an SC300 vs the MR2 Tubo (unless I wait, I am sure one will show up that just needs a new head gasket or something). For me, it honestly can go either way, so even "SC300 sucks! Mr2 Looks way better" is a good enough comment.

well do you like a smaller car? or a larger car? i think they are both equally rare and unique. but in my opinion the MR2 looks slightly more exotic. whereas SC300 is a "pimp my ride" vehicle. something you would see on midnightclub dub edition. thats my just how i feel. i like them both a lot, its just MR2's are just ILL

i love the sc's smoooothh curvy lines personally, very similar to the 6gc. wink.gif I admire the mr2 sw20, but i am not a huge fan of the styling. Both have their advantages, 3sgte powered mr 2 seater, vs, 2jzgte sleeper. Do you need the extra seating of the SC? or prefer the 2 seater? The interior of the sc is super luxurious too, i love them inside. Up to you buddy.

Well, technically...both owned by Toyota, but it's still a Lexus. I like the Soarer/SC300, but the MR2 just seems more special.

I think if you ask any celica loving person they will say MR2 9/10 times because its similar to a celica in many ways, where as a sc300 is a classy lexus with not much in similar to celicas xept for the styling somewhat.

I would get the sc300 cause it different and yet your still in the Toyota Family, i had the sc400 and it was alot of fun and being auto haha it was still fast. they looks amazing when they are done right and looking fresh.

just my opinion. though. i mean if you was to get a mr2 that is basically like the celica, then why not have kept the celica then right? When i sold my sc400 i thought about getting a 89-92 supra but went for the celica cause it was different chassis and drive but still in the toyota family.

Tough choice honestly. Its like they both can be made into sick cars whenever you decide to mod them. I would think what type of driving I am going to do with it though. If it is all highway I would go sc300 (hopefully stickshift) because it seems to be built more for comfort. The mr2 would be fun for the roads that I drive since its mid engine but idk how it would be for freeway commuting. If it was me I would go mr2 just because of the midengine platform but if you could get a stick sc it would be a fun car I think.

You know the second you buy the Lex, the MR2 turbo you want will come around, wait it out. I love both cars, but, 2 seater mid engine, vs a semi luxury coupe... the extra seats are just weighing you down, go for the 2 seater.

the mr2 is godly unpractical, engine in the middle takes up all the room. By the time you find one in your price range they would be in pretty bad shape.

I would rather settle with a lower mileage Lexus and touch a similar prices mr2.

If your looking for a fun car to drive, why not get a miata? The old ones are dirt cheap and still have great weight balance along with some rwd action.

Nah, I'm just as torn as you are, Faust. Most of the SC300's I see around here show their age, and I almost never see an MR2, so there's that special uniqueness about an MR2 to me. I have to vote for the SC300 due to the practicality it offers as a DD as opposed the the virtually trunkless and no rear seats in the MR2. It just seems like after you have the Celica built, you'll have your go-fast toy, why not have a go-fast practical car with a trunk too?

I agree with Hanyo, the MR2 is unpractical. You don't even need to consider the pros of the SC, just the cons of the MR. It maybe the more fun of the two choices, but a two seater is cramp! Mid-engine cars are overhyped because really, who needs the "balance" that it offers anyway? When's the last time you went to the touge? For groceries, girlfriend, anything, count on space for just one as there is no back seat to chuck things into. As for getting into a fender bender/crash, good luck with the MR2... For a daily driver (which is what you wanted), MR2 is thumbs down, period. For a weekend car, then yes, pick the MR2.

you want fun, go mr2, a good suspension and your on your own roller coaster ride, or take the sc300 to MTV and have them pimp your ride with 22'S

Because I won't touch anything that is not a Toyota. 80-90% of my daily attire consists of something Toyota related. We all tend to eventually stick to a brand. Don't get me wrong, I like the Datsun 240z (although I hate nissan engines, very unreliable to me in my opinion), the Miata is a chick car (Way too damn small, I know good to drive, but optional chick car who couldn't get a corvette in my opinion), RX7 FD is still a dream car of mine, however upgrading a Rotary is risky business. That thing warps and you basically have to throw it away and get another one. Subaru RS was something I was considering, maybe converting, but I don't want to. I have enough on my plate with this Celica. I will only touch another celica if it is a GT-Four, and I wouldn't mind that AE86 Corolla, but I want the Levin hatch style... Not going to find one. So I am down to these two options.

Not when it is a GT-Four. To me, all convertibles are chick cars, that is why you compensate with a hard top.

Roadster, people...the Miata is a roadster. wink.gif

And I don't think 6GC's are chick cars...7GC's, maybe. But we only have chick car powerplants. Look at any nicely modded 6GC here and you cannot tell me that's a chick car. Miata, yes...chick car. But having said that, throw some wider tires and nice rims on an NC (less chicky than the older bodies, IMHO), lower that sucker, and throw on a better exhaust system...de-res while you're at it. Even though it might be a chick car, a Miata will give you tons upon tons of fun on the road.

And I still say MR2.

I agree with Ferdi. 7th looks chick car to me. 6th gen, can go either way, but I think it looks like a guys car mostly because it does have similar looks to the Supra, and since I put on this GT4 exterior, everyone thinks it is a Supra. So no, not a chick car. 5th gen Celica? That is TOTAL guy car, most women wouldn't dare to be caught dead in that thing, 4th gen another total guy car and so on below. I mostly see mid life crisis women and men a like buying a miata who simply couldn't get themselves that Corevette they always wanted so they settled for the Miata. Solara is a woman's mid life crisis car, so I can see what you mean about the Lexus SC300 kinda resembling that, however I have yet to see a woman drive one of those in my city, because the 7 that I had seen have been all men in their mid 20's and they are all fixed up from tuner to vip to rims n' roll. Calling the GT4 a chick car is like calling the 350z a chick car, and even though chicks like'em, doesn't mean they can take the balls from that car.

i would say mr2 but i think its going to be really hard to find a good one for that price, the sc300 is not a bad looking car at all and its pretty roomy, ( i personally don't like 2 seaters just too crowded/small) if you really like and can get one for a great deal it I'd say go for it

miata- chick car
celica- chick car (I'd go out on a limb and say mine is nicely done, and I still consider it a chick car)
7gc- just ugly
350z- chick car

Who cares if it's a chick car? If it's what you like then go for it

And I'd say get the SC, just look at consynx (steve aka cone-sex) and you will love the sc
Personally I'm not a fan of the mr-2 though so I'm prolly biased

SC400 V8 FTW!!!!!!!! Doesn't matter whats a chick car. If you have a Celica and your a dude then your Celica is a dude car. You can make any car a chick car in my opinion...Like I said before. Go for the SC300!!! You won't be disappointed. I hated selling my SC400 but I just fell in love with my 94 GT. funny too cause its slower than my sc400 was...oh well...

nothing against you dustin,

Whats wrong with chick cars?!?

When girls choose a cars, majority decide by how they looks, they dont care if it has a ton of horsepower or mid engine. So why the hell would you buy a "guy car" when the only attention you will be getting are from sausage festivals. I would rather get a chick car that would get more attention from the ladies.

The only reason i would not buy a car would be because its just pretty and everything else screams eco box.

Sc300 its got the potential for more HP if your going that way. MR2, if you want something fun to drive. Either way both cars are great, but the MR2 is more rare to see vs a SC300 but I would take the SC300, just because I would drop in a 2JZGTE and call it a beast.

If you're looking for a DD I'd definitely go SC300. Super comfy heated leather seats, awesome sound system, plenty of space, smooth ride but still awesome in the twisties. I miss mine a bit.

And Miata a chick car? Take one to an autoX event and it will change your mind. When I had mine, I couldn't find a chick out there who would want to drive that rough-riding tiny thing. How many chicks out there want a 5-speed? almost none, and like 90% of Miatas on the road are manual. Lowered over an inch it scraped every speed bump, no trunk space, blah blah blah.

Now the Celica is a "chick" car because it has the looks without the performance to back it up. They may be nimble but you won't see them winning many races.

Worst chick car out there has to be the Sunfire. Utterly useless crapbox of a car, but the girls love them for some reason.
