John has an electrical problem. One of which has that yet to be determined therfore not much can be done to fix his car right now. I know he said Mike (Qatar11) is looking at his harness right now.
He has spark, he has gas and he has air but the car will not turn over and start. It has kicked over a few times but not started and now I think its not even doing that. Best thing we can do to help John for real is have a "Get John back on the road." fund............. And pray ![]() -Bryan- -------------------- Member of Team 5sfTe

yeah, the car will fire, but then immediately dies. it could be anything from the AFM to the ECU to the ignitor to the vacuum system. i got no clue..and i'm losing interest and hope...so i haven't worked on it in well over a week.

John, do you want to try using that extra ecu that storm performance sent me? I'm pretty sure it's a ae92 afm, cuz it's like the same as your ecu. I'll ship it out to you and you can test it out if you like?

not sure if this will help but when i was installing my remote start on my alarm, i forgot to connect one of the wires up to the second ingnition wire. the car would turn over and everything but just would not start. just throwing out suggestions. aside from that you will have to go to the estreme of problem solving. i hate to say it but the only way to fully rule out the wiring is to completely redo the wire harness. electrical work is the worst on a car. -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition

You do have a the solenoid I am assuming. Car wont start w/o it.
Also sounds like maybe u have a fuel problem. perhaps bypass the fuel resistor and wire it straight? -------------------- |

The Car is very much acting like the ECU is not taking over control of the engine after it cranks. There a few issues at work here. AE92 AFM diagrams are avaible NOWHERE for this friggin engine. we used a US MR2 4AGZE and a Corolla wiring diagram to do most of the work. This alone would have been suffiecient to insure that the harness will work. Having said that, there was a ECU connector that arrived cut from the harness AND completely de-pinned - since it was completey de-pinned and removed from the harness - unless we have the real wiring diagram book, there is no way to 100% garantee that all the pins required for operation are installed I have gotten my hands on a 1991 Supra Repair manual from the local dealership which includes troubleshooting a DLI system. However I can't scan 120 pages of it. I dunno maybe Roo can get his hands on the wiring diagram but he never gets back to me on anything i've ever asked him to order. Oh and my "help mike build a GT-Four" coffee can is looking a little empty right now <cough> This post has been edited by qatar11: Nov 2, 2003 - 11:22 AM -------------------- -Mike

done and done. we'll see if this helps. still gotta couple things i can look at. vacuum, ignition, timing, AFM, la la la la. -John- btw Ryan, if it's the ECU, and this one works, i'll need your address there at school, so me and Lo can send you your prize. and no, it's not one of MY thongs. ![]() -------------------- |

maybe you checked this already but i want to throw this in the mix cause it was happening to me...and it took me like 2 weeks to find....Make sure you check your Circut Opening Relay. Making sure that it has the proper voltage to the terminals..what happned with me is that I had no voltage to one of the leads and it would crank but die instantly...the circut wasnt closing. anyway just a suggestion..AND MAKE SURE THE VACCUM IS GOOD TO GO...theese engines are very sensitve to vaccum leaks.

i don't know if that motor has a distributor or coil packs, but in case it has a distributor, you might want to peek inside and look for a condensor. my 5sfe had a fried wire, it went from the condensor to the internal coil, bolted on to the positive terminal on the coil. only about a 1.5 inches in length, right behind the top plug on the cap. they're only about $3 from toyota. hope this helps.

You did not mention other stuff like fuel pressure after starting.
Either way, try the ECU first if you can and let us know! We have found that majority of the 4ag ecu goes bad after some time down. But you are on the right path for troubleshooting. Also check the throttle sensor and correct harness wiring. -------------------- West_Minist

John! Oh, one of the great fathers of 6GC! Hehe. Man, DON'T give up. I swear, I will make the trip to TN by myself. First, I'll beat you up, steal Laura's thongs, and then you'll give me a ride back up here in your newly SC'ed Celica!

i'm just throwing this out 'cause i wanna help, but i had a similar problem with my truck which is ancient btw and this might not even be applicable. anyway there were two sources of power to the distributor one for starting and one for running the starting voltage came right off the 12 volt ignition, but while running it went through a ballast resistor to drop it down to about 8 volts. and i had a loose connection so it would catch at first but as soon as you let the key go it died. don't think it'll help but hey.
