Hi guys, I am a 5th Gen ST185 owner, and I am just curious in finding info on making the full swap with the AWD into a ST20X chasis. I know one person in the swaps section tried performing the swap but had alignment issues, and that is as much information that I have found.

What I am basically looking for is the following:

o How well does the rear end align up from the ST185 to a ST20X chasis

o Where is the fuel tank usually placed?

o How well does the suspension match up from the ST185 to the 6th gen?

o Is there sufficent room for the driveshaft tunnel to make it from the engine bay to the rear diff?

o Any other links from people who have successfully made the conversion?

o Would purchasing a full ST205 cut in half be more feasible than sourcing parts from a ST185?

Welcome to the site. smile.gif So what exactly are you wanting to do? Get a sixth generation Celica and convert it to all wheel drive? If so, you'd be better off buying truejigga's imported GT-Four and legalizing it, because you're going to spend a crazy amount of money and it will take lots of time and work to convert a front wheel drive sixth generation Celica to all wheel drive.

It's never been done as far as I know, or at least there are no photos or detailed information about it. From what I've heard though, ST185 parts will not work for the conversion, and you'd want to use ST205 parts.

If you have a ST185 wouldnt you already have AWD? Why would you want to make it to the 205? It wouldn't make sense to do all that work swapping from the USDM All-Trac hp of 200 for an 60 additional hp of the stock JDM 205.

Ehh, to buy a ST205 and then try to "legalize" it would be a PITA. First off yes the chasis can be proven as being a car that was legally sold in the US, but I don't think the AWD is considered a similar car. I know the above has been done with Hondas because, quite frankly, most Hondas that come to the US unchanged.

Next, if I were to buy a ST205 and then convert it to being "legalized" then I would say that just swapping VINS and/or replacing dashes and swapping the steering rack with column would be a simpler choice in my opinon

Thats not what I was asking, but I will reiterate my original post.

I like the ST185. .. .but I like the looks of the ST205 even more. Maybe I am just bored on how the ST185 looks, or I want a car that is not as ragged and beated on. . . needless to say I want something new and entirely different. HP is not an issue here. If I was really seriuos in looking into performance, then I would just decide on getting an FD3S or the like for better power and handling.

I really just want a unique and interesting car. . ..

Also I was under the impression that NEVERSTOP in

http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=6255

thread had performed the conversion but failed due to an alignment issue. . .

So your looking at getting a 6gc with the 3s-ge fwd and doing an AWD swap with your st185?

Well I was kinda looking for information if anything has been done in the past and not the 3S-GE, but the 3S-GTE

I am sure anything is possible if there is a tunnel for the drive shaft, rear lower portion of the firewall can accomadate the different sized transmission and center diff, and if the rear end of the car has the proper mounting for rear differential
