...so this morning I went to pick up the car and SURPRISE...it's a '91 MR2 with a 3rd generation 3S-GTE from a JDM MR2. biggrin.gif I was like, "Hmmm...even better than I thought. I start the car and it was running funny, so I check the compression and the #2 cylinder was 70, while the others were 190. I told the lady I wasn't gonna buy it unless she gave me her brand new CP pistons. She refused but my tuner, who's her cousin, convinced her...and I also ended up getting everything for $200 less. tongue.gif

She also refused that because she needs the money bad. The story is that this car is child support payment from her ex-husband. After she duivorced him, he was mad so he got in the car with his 4 year old daughter, and got all crazy drifting it on the street where he lives and wrecked it against the fence of a house and a palm tree. Good thing his daughter didn't suffer a scratch. What a dirtbag. rolleyes.gif

He owes her ex-wife over $7,000 in child support. He's in the Army Reserve, so she could pretty much end his life as he knows it, but she took it easy on him and settled out of court. She took the car with many brand new aftermarket parts (forged pistons, rods, ARP studs, forged rods, clutch, turbo header, etc.) as a payment.

Anyway, these are the holidays, and pretty much everyone around here is broke. Nobody is going to have thousands to shell out for an engine, except me that I have my priorities set, lol. rolleyes.gif So she let it go for $200. Good for her.

Price? Well, higher than you guys pay in the US. laugh.gif We get to pay way more down here, lol. But who cares? I have the almighty 3S-GTE....and I got it without even knowing it. Life is good. So I got the engine, the turbo tranny, the CP pistons and the Microtech EMS. I need to source many parts to make everything work, but my tuner likes a challenge. He wants to trade me his 2nd gen 3S-GTE but hell naw...this is for me. biggrin.gif

Can anyone tell me how to open the MR2's engine bay door? Where is the latch thingy? I can open the trunk, but not the engine bay. I'm stupid. laugh.gif

Are you sure you have a GEN3 3sgte, as the ECU says otherwise? Its possible I suppose that it has the wrong ECU plugged in? Post pics of the engine bay and I will tell what Generation 3sgte it is.

That's the stock 2nd gen 3S-GTE ECU. The engine didn't come with an ECU. tongue.gif

Gonna check now. tongue.gif I opened my tuner's MR2 engine bay the other day, but I don't remember how.

OK. found it. It was behind the driver seat, lol. Here are the pictures. I'm gonna have fun with this engine. Look at the mud in the radiator fill. laugh.gif The previous owner sure didn't take care of this poor baby. frown.gif

I'm going to be selling the stock turbo and intercooler. Also, I will be selling the intake and exhaust manifolds. We're going to build custom ones. I'll use the 3" throttle body from my 7A-FE. biggrin.gif

I'm slightly disappointed because I thought you were going to be innovative once again...but otherwise, good stuff man! Can't wait to see the build.

Why's your 6GC so moldy though? That's disgusting.

I live right at the bottom of the rain forest, so it's always rainy and humid. frown.gif No matter what, my car will get moldy. I've tried everything to get rid of it but the mold won't die. Only way to prevent mold is to daily drive the car, but it's not running, so when it sits, it molds, lol.

Sure, I'll post pics of the manifolds when we start building them. biggrin.gif

I can't part it. I already told the lady I only needed the tranny, axles, EMS and engine. I spend last night looking around for what I needed for the swap, since this hasn't been done inthe island yet on a Celica. So far I got from Manny that I would need:

Axles:
Inner shaft = '91 MR2 Turbo (have them already with the tranny)
Outer shaft = '91 Camry V6

Mounts:
ST205 mounts and brackets (front, rear, and driver side)

Shifter cables:
ST205 cables

Speed sensor:
'93+ E153 electronic sensor

Tranny shifter selector arm/lever/related BS:
ST205

If I missed anything, point me. I'm 100% this is everything I need swap wise. I still need the brake and clutch pedals since my car is an automatic.

if you have to store your car for awhile you can make your own dehumidifer using a few plastic containers and calcium chloride but put it somewhere it wont spill and take it out before you drive the car

Thanks, man. I'll finally be cool like you guys. tongue.gif

My plans are to make a minimum of 400 WHP and eventually when I learn, be able to touch 11s this year, even if it's 11.9, just so I'm not the wimp of our group, lol. My tuner has 600 WHP in his MR2 and his brother's MR2 will be pushing around a bit less when he finishes his build. The turbo I have already gave my friend a bit over 400 WHP in his 2ZZ-GE. Can't remember the exact number. If in my application I have to push it too much to get there, I won't. I will then get an expensive-ass Precision Turbo 6262 (billet goodness, baby) so I can get that number with less boost. My friend has a 6265 and the thing just gives you over 500 WHP without boosting it too much. I like that idea. smile.gif

tranny shifter selector / and related parts can be obtained from a Camry V6 manual, Lexus ES300 Manual and Solara V6 manual

I have a set of shifter cables if you are interested and the mounts you can use Celica GT mounts except for the rear, the rear HAS to be ST205 to work with the e153. I also have the rear mount and bracket.

PM me if interested on ST205 cables and rear mount.

the rest of the stuff you should be able to find over there to save some money.

Maybe you should ask the lady if she would like it parted out. Since it's supposed to be a child support payment, I'm sure she'd appreciate the help with using what will become a giant crumpled paperweight to generate some income from it. That is, if you're willing to help her out of course. But clearly she needs the money, it would definitely be a very nice thing and good deed to help her out!

Well, it would be a good deed but the problem is I don't even have time to do my things. I just don't have the time to part out a car. She can do it. She's young and has time. She doesn't work. She has all the time in the world, and so is her undisciplined ex-husband. :

Culpable, thanks a bunch, man. Will PM you right now. You're saving me a bunch of money and time by selling me those parts. biggrin.gif

A sweet and sour day for me yesterday. The 7A-FE is out of the car. frown.gif

We pulled the 3S-GTE out of the MR2 on Tuesday. What a pain in the ass. Ugh. I officially hate them. laugh.gif

The engine will be refreshed this week, CP forged pistons installed and the custom intake and exhaust manifolds will be made. I started college so I won't be doing any grease monkeying. My mechanic will do everything. That's the update so far. I still need to buy the HKS cam gears (pretty) and the Brian Crower spring and retainer set. The cams will be installed after the engine is dynoed so we can see how much was gained. That's it for now. smile.gif

EXACTLY. I agreed to buy the engine and tranny, paid her, and took the car on a flatbed to my house. I got done on Tuesday with it, and I sent it on the flatbed back to her house. That car is toasted, man. The driver side floodboard is warped. It has ridges like a Ruffles chip. It is unrepairable. I told her to just part it. My mechanic, who's her cousin, bought the roof mounted intake and other parts for his MR2. I wouldn't take that car for free even if she gives me $1,000. laugh.gif

I found a good paint shop so I changed plans. We were going to paint the engine bay ourselves, install the swap and then have the rest of the car painted, but I'm saving $500 by painting the entire car first. I'm getting the car painted this week and then we'll finish swapping in the good stuff. We'll have to be extra-careful. smile.gif
