This isn't a post a pic of your pet forum (I know there is one like that somewhere), this is a breed specific thread.

I own a pit-bull mix named Bella, as pictured below in my signature.

She is a mature 1.5 years old female, and so far has not developed any negative behaviors towards other dogs (as so well documented in news reports). In fact, she has been one of the easiest dogs to train not to be aggressive. Many pit-bulls are very easy to train and are not aggressive at birth. Yes they are very strong and will use that strength if need be (I've seen her in action), but for the most part, she is a very mild tempered dog and most of the breed is like this. She is a mid to high energy dog, very typical of pit as they needed a lot of energy for what they were designed for.

She has a smooth coat, and is about 50 pounds. Typically a pure-bred pit is about 40 pounds and a bit more muscular. They are intelligent and typically want to please their masters, though she does retain a bit of independence and when given the chance loves to use her nose to sniff and find stuff. She likes it when she has stuff to do and a job, as most of the breed likes it when they have a defined job to do.

What type of dog do you own and what are some of its breed's characteristics?

Domestic house cat. He's fat. He sleeps a lot. He eats a lot. He poops a lot. A whole lot, actually. Probably just to annoy me because he has a tendency to do so right after I've just cleaned his litterbox.

English Mastiff, her name is Lola. She's incredibly cuddly and snuggly and unbelievably loyal and wishes she was a little tiny lap dog so she could sit in my lap. But to strangers, she'd just about rip their heads off if she could sometimes. I have to put her away when people she doesn't know come to my house, and in order to make friends with her, you basically have to already be here when she's let out so she can check you out and you can give her treats. Once she gets to meet someone though, she's very sweet and lovey, unless she just flat out doesn't like that person. And to other dogs? Forget it. She's totally aggressive toward other dogs, despite my best efforts to socialize her as a puppy.

I have a Chiweenie - Or a Chiuahua/Dachshund mix. He's pretty tame. I feared in the beginning that he would be a yapper, but I was shocked when I heard him bark for the first time. It was loud and deep - it actually startled me! Dachshunds have back issues due to their long back, so keeping him at his "ideal target weight" to keep the stress off his back is very important to me.

He loves other dogs. My parents have 3 chihuahuas and 1 mini dachshund that he plays with all of the time. He loves his little stuffed toys, and he loves sleeping in bed with us with his head poked up from the covers like a person. Very cliché to say, but adorable to see.

i have a pure-bred dalmatian.. his name is max and i've had him for 9-10 years. he's getting pretty old, overweight and lazy now. but i think he would've made a good dog model since i think he looks great with his spots at the right places compared to other dalmations i've seen.. you can see his head in one of the pics in my profile.. lol

dont watch animal planet

I'll give you the basics of that show and another show called Dogs 101. Essentially they go through each breed and talk about characteristics, history, and health issues the breed generally has. Very informative and a great tool to decide which breed you want to own. So yes, there are different Cat breeds.

Everyone else, I love your dog breeds and I'm grateful that you shared. Swiss, I lol'ed at your cat, and I wish it the best.

We have a 9 month old black Maine Coon (long haired cat...that's going to be huge.) that we rescued. He's the most interesting cat I've ever seen. He follows you everywhere, loves to play fetch, is affectionate, playful... he's really quite amazing. It's a great "first time cat owner" bread to start with, though I seriously condone rescuing a cat before breeding one.

The funny thing is that we just thought he was a long haired domestic when we got him. It wasn't until he started to grow that his features bloomed.

To give you an idea. Maine Coons grow till they are 3-4 years old! They are HUGE. The first picture is him at 3 months. The second is him at 8 months. There's a huge difference.

I gotta 1.2 year old pitt as well named TAZ...probably the most chill dog ever, but very high strung and loves to run/swim...he doesnt have his ears or his tail clipped and i personally think that pitts look a lot better like that...his coat is INCREDIABLE....brindle in color but the design of his coat i have never seen on a dog before...very unique...hes got 4 white paws and a white nose....i do have pictures posted of him in the other thread...pitt-bulls make awesome family dogs and are super protective, extreamily smart, and very well behaved. They get their bad name from people like michale vick.
