I replaced the distributor o-ring a couple of weeks ago. I just checked today and it looks like it's still leaking. Has anyone encountered this? If so, what did you end up doing?

sounds like it is leaking into the ignition coil area. If you open up your distr cap you should see leaking there. If you can rebuild it, then thats fine, but you may need to replace the whole distributor assy if you cannot.

I wish it was leaking from the inside of the distributor (so that I can replace it). However, it's definitely leaking from the outside.

I wish. Got the o-ring from Toyota. I ordered a new PVC valve though. I suspect it's being caused by excessive blow by.

when the last time it was changed did anyone sand down the walls of the hole or the distributor itself?

Wrong sized o ring possibly then? X2 ![]() Once I actually had to put a thin layer of Ultra Black silicone around the area of the O-ring. I had tried a couple and found that to be my last resource but it actually worked really good. This post has been edited by DGAF: Feb 2, 2010 - 11:45 PM |

There was a thread about this on mr2oc a while back. basically its a common flaw, and most people solve it by getting a second thinner oring from the hardware store that actually seals itself against the head. I think I just doubled my new ring up with the old one to fix it. You just have to be careful when you tighten the dist back on because its possible to crack it with another oring on there.
