I have a 94 celica st 5 speed. Ive recently been researching gt-4 swaps. Id like to do a full gt-4 swap on my car. I have the 7afe(1.8l) motor with the 5speed tranny in it. I need advice and help with my plans. Id like to put the 3sgte(2.2) turbo motor along with the 5speed awd tranny in my car. Id like to know helpful tips, tricks, and anything that might help me along with the swap. I know the the electrical part of the swap will be a complete nightmare but im willing to do it. Anyone with any knowledge on how i should go about do this please let me know.

ok well first off... like the other guys said do research... i'll be nice and start ya out though.

1. 3sgte is a 2.0 not a 2.2 wink.gif
2. there are different generation 3sgte engines. most us use the 2nd or 3rd.
3. go 3rd gen lol. i like the air to water and the ct20b is a nice feature. wiring is also easier because third gens were in 6gc. 2nd gens were in 5gc and mr2s.
4. you will need new engine mounts and trans. the "a" and "s" are not compatible.
5. have money in your pocket like any swap, or car project for that matter... talk is cheap.

good luck. do your research and hope you get to swap.

You do have a lot of work ahead. And like garin said. You'll need money. I think specially for unexpected. since you will only find out how much it is until you are putting the car back together.

Besides this. Good luck wink.gif Keep us posted OK!

Are you talking just a 3SGTE swap? Or a Full AWD swap? Because there is quite a bit of fabrication required for the AWD swap. Mounts for the rear end, GT-four gas tank, cutting out the pan in the hatch, or going to a fuel cell.

The 3SGTE swap is WELL documented in the stickies at the top of the Forced Induction forum. Go look and read up.

Looking at the parts catalogue The GT4 floorpan isnt that far different from the non GT4 floorpan (I once thought they were very different)...the bit where the spare wheel goes is different, you could cut that out along the existing spot welds and weld in a new one which would be a perfect fit....very little if any jigging required...other than that they are the same....its just that the GT4 (ST205) has extra bits welded to it to support the rear sub frame etc...all you need is the part numbers for the extra bits which should be obtainable from Toyota Dealers...welding those to the existing floor pan shouldnt be that difficult as they will be made to fit perfectly....once welded into position the rest would be fairly easy......expensive to get all the parts, but not beyond a competent welder and a deep pocket.

You`d have to double check the EPC just to make sure I havnt misread the part numbers and got it wrong...I`m thinking back to a couple of pictures that Garyst165 posted up a week or two ago from the EPC so it may be an error on my part, but worth checking up on....you might all be able to make your own GT4s easier than currently thought.

i was thinking about it last night, and i heard someone say that the 3sgte motor and the 5sfe were practically the same and the trannys would bolt up just find. i was thinking that since it would be alot less costly and alot easier to find parts that i could use the 5sfe motor, bolt on the 4wd tranny and turbo it myself later on. If anyone thinks theres any problems with it, please let me know

The 3sgte is turboed from the factory, meaning the engine came from the factory built to handle boost. The 5sfe was NEVER factory designed to hold boost, thus u have to upgrade a lot of parts to make it capable. For the the cost of getting a 5sfe and reliably turbocharging it you'd spend just as much to just initially buy a 3sgte.If u plan to do the awd swap(regardless of engine) u better to be ready to fork out 5k+ just for the reliable awd drive train. The 5sfe and 3sgte mount on the same places in the engine bay because they are both S series blocks,5Sfe,3Sgte,compared to 7Afe.The 5sfe stock transmission(s54) can be mated to a 3sgte,but wont hold over 300whp,and is of course FWD.For a 3sgte awd swap into a ST u better be ready to fork out around 10k...

I don't mean to be a Debbie Downer, but for the cost of the AWD conversion, you might as well import a real GT4. Don't get me wrong. I'd love to see this thread happen and I'd love to see another AWD conversion, but it's almost easier to just get the real thing.

Have military friends over seas my buddy is in the marines and he has a list of cars he can import for free. You just have to get rid of parts to pass emissions. That's what he was telling me he said he can import 2 cars like every 1-3 years for free. He's shipping over a rx7 for himself ATM.
