okay so i've been outta town for the last week and a half; and the car has been sitting at my shop. when i got back into town yesterday, went to fire her up and head home, she instantly starting making this horriffic "rock stuck in a blender" noise. when i poped the hood i found the number 1 cylinder smoking it's ass off. (like me when i'm drunk laugh.gif )

this started from key in ignition so i know it's not premature detonation; the engine wasn't hot enough. Sounds like a rod pinging arround maybe? come loose?

also, this morning when i started it up; the smoke wasn't pouring outta the #1 cylinder like it was yesterday. I checked the plug wires for oil, but to no avail. i've got alot of oil on the top of the engine, but not in any of the spark chambers.

before i goto the dismantlement, i'd like a few second opinions; so i got lil'bit to fire it up while i ran the recorder. hope this helps.

sugestions? opinions?

Personally i would take off the valve cover and start there. When i had that problem about 3 yrs ago with my other car i just drove it till it broke and then dropped another motor in it. but then again that cost me a new motor, if its an issue you can fix i would take it apart and see whats knocking. It could be a piston hitting a valve, a connector rod thats either broken or loose, you could have something in one of your cylinders. Thats my guess, with my old car it was a connector rod that went through the oil pan and made 2 holes in the pan and 2 in the block itself. it wasnt pretty. If your #1 cylinder is smoking and knocking i would guess its valves are the culprit. Let me know if this helps.

rod knock.
steff says 30 miles.
could be more, could be less, but that is without a doubt bad news.

that dont sound good at all. if you plan on rebuilding the motor, i would run that motor as little as possible.
sorry, dude. frown.gif

thanks cyber, thanks Manny.

i was hoping that it wasn't as bad as i though. (like a lil' kid hearing that santa isn't real; i knew it- but i didn't wanna believe laugh.gif )

well thanks to havoc, i've already sourced a new motor. thanks guys biggrin.gif

or maybe i should just loot up the extra and do something a bit more dramatic? lol. we'll see what my finances will allow right now.
