I just recently purchased a 1994 Celica GT, and my buddy has a COMPLETE 2JZ assembly in his garage. He is moving out of state and unfortunatley he has to sell it. I dont know if i should buy it. I was thinking about swaping it into my car IF ITS POSSIBLE. I have the money but not as much experience. Since im only 17, im still learning. So if you guys can help me, it would be great! Can you guys tell me if its possible and if there will be any trouble with this kind of swap.

Thanks. smile.gif

Best reply EVER to this question. This man has hit the nail on the head

YES, it is a swap that is possible to be done. NO, there in no information on this site about it. YES, it will require a lot of money. YES it will require a lot of fabricating.

ANYTHING, is possible with the right amount of money, time, and know-how.

Its possible in the sense that with enough money and experience I could have my 6gc powered by a monster truck engine, but in the real world... NO.

i would like to see someone do an accurate assessment as to what needs to be done to get it to work instead of the usual "with enough $ anything is possible"

just to name a few things: swapping the firewall/floor pan from the jza80, custom rad(s) & rad support to fit the motor, swap rear floor/drivetrain/suspension or use st205 rear, motor mounts, etc.

OP- prepare to be flamed for asking the question. Just a warning. I personally won't flame you. We all have questions. As others have said, it would take a lot of time and a lot of money. By the time you are done, you would not have a street legal car anymore, if you have to go through inspections. Yes, the 2JZ engine is VERY capable. 320 hp from the factory sounds VERY enticing. But for a fraction of the cost and a fraction of a fraction of the work, you can swap a 3S-GTE into your car. Think about it this way. Spend thousands to get a heavy 2JZ into your car and compromise the structural integrity of the car so it won't handle as well or you can swap the much lighter 3S-GTE into your car with no headaches and still have a car that performs well beyond your expectations. The 2JZ has 320 hp at the flywheel, and there are several members on here who have the 3S swap that have 330 hp AT THE WHEELS. So with a 3S swap you will actually end up with a much lighter, much faster car.

Like everyone else on 6gc, I would love to see nothing more than a 2JZ powered Celica, but after taking everything into consideration, I will personally fall in line with everyone else and stay with the 3S-GTE that bolts right in.

To put the 2jz in you'd have to build a brand new custom car since youd be modifying and changing so many components to put on the celica chassis.

Basically buy a blown supra shell since you say you have money and if you really like the celica look modify the exterior to look like it. Kinda like 0Re0 put supra tails on his celi.

I have been looking into a 1.5jz swap and been seriously looking into it. Now this swap is not worth the time and money to be honest, but I figured why not be the first person with one on 6gc. So for cost I have the benefit of being a Toyota Tech. and will be going to UNOH I'm also in there T-Ten program. Things you need to price out are the motor, trans, ECU, rear end sub-frame from a gt4, rear end from a gt4, gas tank from a gt4, custom drive shaft, radiator. As for the custom work (I will be doing this myself, and yes I do have years of welding exp.) all new engine mounts, cross member, fire wall, trans mount, shifter, cut out the tire well/weld over, all new wiring harness. I could keep going on all day with how much custom work you would have to do. I already have rough measurements and if anyone is hard core thinking of doing this i will help as much as posible, but it would be easier to just do a 3s awd conv. if you want more bang for your buck wink.gif.

But again hatchy,if u use the r154(7mgte 5 speed tranny{beast of a tranny}) you run into the shifter being in the back seats....

U also would HAVE to upgrade just about everything, celicas are built for <200 hp..u cant go and shove a 320hp engine in and call it a day,brakes,chassis,suspension,steering...eveything!!!Its gonna cost more to build a 2jzgtte powered t20 than it would be to just buy a mk4....

I dont think it can be done unless you have lots of money and are just plain bored. The Celica already resembles and Supra with the money you'll most likely be spending just buy a damn Supra that has a 2jz or swap one is. Theres a crazy nice stock 94 Supra in my neighborhood ( no where near you guys ) for sale for 17K. It only has 53K on the motor and its N/A.

Just my opinion, if you have the money to do this go for it i dont think its worth it when you can buy the real deal.
