Well I have a auto tranny. Do I have to switch that to a manual? Do I have to make it into a AWD or can I just leave it as a FWD? And how would I make it into a AWD? Thank you and sorry for all the questions.

Questions are what this place is all about. I learned more about my car in the first week after I joined this place than I had in all of the time before that.

to SWAP you have to chg to manual since our Auto tranny wont be able to hold that much hp

Hey rlan,
have you seen anyone with an automatic tranny wit hthe swap. I think it could hold the power. My retarded friend took an automatic civic....supercharged and turboed it at the same time just to try it. The tranny took it like a champ. I'd like to see someone go for the automatic swap just to see what happens, if the tranny goes then go to manual.

you can do the swap to an automatic just fine... its not really a matter of the transmission holding up... unless you drive like a complete moron... its an issue of using all of the powe there is... If you thinkin about doing the swap look into having the transmission regeared instead of swapping it for a Manual.... remember - Automatics have the potentional to be faster than a manual... they just have to be gear correctly.

I've heard that the stock gt tranny can handle a lot of power by the way. I saw a sixth gen GT with a 3S-GTE that had over 400 horsepower I think(It was on some MR2 Forums, but I couldn't find the link, and I didn't remember the power specs exactly) and it was using the stock GT tranny.

And by the way, I changed this thread name to Engine Swap. wink.gif

Actually it was around 550HP or something, it was really crazy. But, lots of people mentioned that the tranny wouldn't last long at all, one had 1st hand experience... the url is http://www.board.mr2faq.com/showthread.php...10&pagenumber=1 but I'm not sure if it exists anymore... I think you may just have to be registered to see it... too lazy to check.
