If you have any input, or want me to try something, tell me
![]() So I started a long time ago painting the interior pieces, and have had some lighting thoughts, that just made their way to be real ![]() Finished paint (have more ideas, but for now) ![]() Started today with the door handle LED (someone else's idea, but :)thanks) Anyone who wants to do it, make sure you test fit! I didnt and got everything back on and realized the hole i drilled was not placed right, so I had to take it all apart and fill in the whole ![]() ![]() The light (its not real dark out, will get better pics) ![]() Handle light, in the dark- Driver ![]() Passenger ![]() Changed the clock color (actually wanted red, but the red made it white? idk but I like it) ![]() Now for some of my own idea's (need to finish up tomorrow) I put in LED's in the "heat vents" ![]() I placed them in strategically where the actual light would not be seen, from where you sit, but it would reflect off the new white paint and glow inside the vent ![]() Inside the passengers side ![]() Inside the drivers side, mounted on top ![]() Dark- ![]() Drivers side (will get night pics) ![]() Dark ![]() Center- ![]() Dark ![]() Whole Picture- ![]() Whole Picture 2- ![]() NEWEST LED'S My cig lighter is out so its just a hole, as you can see by the first pic, so I put an LED inside, far into the back and the whole area glows, looks pretty cool ![]() Next pic is very hard to see but its where the E-Brake is, on the inside (not the button end) (will try to get a better pic,it lights up most of the E-Brake Handle which you cant see. ![]() All on a new switch (love the placement ![]() ![]() This post has been edited by mgnt232: May 17, 2010 - 8:24 PM -------------------- |

I just painted mine with Krylon paint for plastics (it works the best, can find it at walmart). I have never had anything chip, as long as you coat it a few times evenly it will be fine.
Of course I never ever do anything in my car that would cause it to chip, as long as your careful it will be fine Some people say clear coating it works to keep it in good shape, and I imagine sanding it and priming wouldn't hurt, but its cheapest to just grab a few cans of paint and its all good. oh and heads up, the passenger side heat vent=BITCH to take off, you need a few screwdrivers and I broke most of the clips, couldn't figure out how to actually take it off, but one clip is still enough to hold it. -------------------- |

YES YOU TOOK MY ADVICE FROM YOUR OTHER THREAD. lol sorry had to get that in there. The Krylon is a prepless paint fyi, sanding and priming isn't needed. Sanding would actually DECREASE the amount of paint that would stick because of all the dust created by sanded vinyl. Plus your interior will loose it's texture. Personally I think it's too red. I'll have mine done by the end of this summer, but I have some notes here I've got saved on my desktop... CODE Interior neons: In air vents (red?). Neon Wiring around hatch interior (red), around lines in door cards (maybe), in sunroof edging (red), speaker panels (front and rear/red), around center console (turquoise). Under rear seats, one in rear hatch near sub (pulse to sub?) Speaker neons wired to Streetglow music interface? (Pulsing neons a la Kia Soul) Interior replace: Keyring light to red, cigarette lighter to aqua (3mm led), window switches to aqua (3mm led). Reupholster rear bench to all black with red stitching. 12v lighter extenders to aqua (5mm LED x3) Switches: Exterior to existing neon switch, interior to new switch. Accents to new switch. Paint: Door Cups, Power control panel (not switches), maybe airbag panel (eye it, last item) Gauges: Black background, neon blue/"turquoise" lit font, medium blue unlit, red needles. Procarparts Black Reverse Gauges (Bookmarked) To date I've got done the gauges, the 12v extenders changed colors, neons in the front footwells (who hasn't done that one lol) the cig lighter changed to aqua, the clock to aqua, and the red keyring. I'll be using a lot of EL Wire this summer... -------------------- ![]() |

![]() And I dont know how much money is an issue but I wouldn't buy new pieces, just paint them, and if you dont like it, paint it back to black? Just a thought, hope to see some more interior mods ![]() -------------------- |

Mine did that the first time I did it too! I sanded it down and started again. You have! to clean it really good. Make sure no oils or dirt or anything is on there.
Try it again, Before buying new pieces. Oh and make sure you follow the cans instructions exactly. I know it sounds stupid, but do extremely light coats and wait 10-15 mins betweeen. if you have any questions or are unsure about anything. just ask, I made all the mistakes anyone could ever make lol -------------------- |

a couple of parts i over sprayed in like one area and it bubbled up so i scrubbed it off and went again. But after i started going with the flow i sprayed lightly about 8 or 9 coats and it looks pretty good so far im stoked. Im wondering why i didnt do this sooner to be honest its simple and looks so much better.

I've taken EVERYHThing else off just cant those 2 off. Easy. Take off the shifter trim and then I believe there are two screws near the base. The rest is held in by clips. I'm not entirely sure if that's all correct, but just take your time and use logic and it'll come off easily. -------------------- '97 ST \ Eibach \ KYB \ Kenwood \ Alpine \ Cusco \ OEM+ [sold 10/18]

oh do you mean the big piece? to the very right of this first pic?
▼▼▼ ![]() Yeah that piece was the biggest Bi***! Working from memory, everything around it has to be off like the piece under the steering wheel, and possibly the glovebox. I do know EXACTLY what your talking about though lol, I went through the same problem, found this thread Coomer made after I dismantled the AC unit lol couldnt tell you how the hell I got it all back in without disconnecting the 2 wires. The how to-follow just the how to remove And after that you should be good, I have removed the climate control since then (using the correct way) and its pretty simple anyhow I took some pics, if you want any more or wanna know how something comes off, just ask (rear panel is a bi*** too btw) ![]() ![]() ![]() -------------------- |

i got the piece underneath the stering wheel. I have EVERYTHING else off lol and i mean everything. i Cant get the peice off that in that first pic off look at your steering wheel in the first pic, and in the picture on the bottem right is the plastic i cant get off.
BTW, how are you door panels so clean with no sun damage i wanna get rid of the sun damage on mine. This post has been edited by JuMPiiN: May 22, 2010 - 1:47 PM |

There was a little sun damage on mine, I cant remember exactly what I used, it was like 2 years ago. I used some sort of tire clean, and it blackened it up (its slippery weird feeling for a while) but it stays black, and nothing can get on it. Im sure there is a better way, but thats what I did.
And that piece you have to take out the climate control, I'm going to look at it right now so I can remember exactly what else has to come off -------------------- |

yeah I believe its just the panel under the steering wheel, the glove box, and the climate control. all relatively easy to remove to remove just look for points of stress where there may be a bolt, and go slow taking it off.
take some pics of your progress, I wish I took pics as I went along. but didnt have a cam at the time -------------------- |

yeah that piece makes a HUGE difference when you get it back into the car, because, well you look at it constantly lol.
If you get in the gauges or change the bulb to a diff color (like red) it will give it an even better effect. (you can buy them at any auto store) Look forward to see more progress as you complete it all, its not everyones "taste" but I love it because you and everyone knows you did something, ppl always ask me how much my interior cost ![]() ![]() ![]() -------------------- |

![]() i got a few chips next to my ebrake because it wasnt cured completely and im bumped into the door and chipped it. I was hoping i could just spray some into a glass bowl and take a paint brush and paint over it. I'm going to proboly just put it back in in a few days when i can post up the pictures of the wiring underneth the steering wheel. |

Looks awesome! and try some black tire shine for the sun damage, worked for me, mine was not as bad though.
And if you just spray a q-tip with the paint you can spread it on chips, just do it a few times and let it dry. looks good though your the second person i've ever seen with it, including myself ![]() -------------------- |

Yeah I wired up a 15" flexible LED strip into my dome light, and it lights up the whole car and the ground around when you open the door, but its a blue light so it looks cool, but not all that effective if you are actually looking for something lol
and the gauges lights are a MUST! the stock color is sooooo ugly! in my opinion, I changed it to red and they look really aggressive! good luck- -------------------- |
