I know most guys on here put in a 3rd gen 3s. I was thinking about putting on a 86-89 3sgte with a front mount and a boost controller and running like 12psi. And just hving that as a daily. Wondering what you guys think, and maybe could give me good trustworthy websites that have them I found one for 975$ shipped to my door.
I honestly just like the sound of the BOV. That's all I want. And maybe 220hp or something isn't really much to ask for.
But I've heard good and bad things from tiger Japanese so I'm skeptical about it. And I want to make sure I have ecu and wiring ext.

That's the only real reason I'd turbo my car. I LOVE the sound of a blow off valve. clutch in, psh, shift, clutch in, psh, shift...

I'm not picky... I honestly just want the BOV and a little bit of oomf lol. Ifni could find a good deal on either I be happy. And it would be in my car in a few days since I already have the old engine pulled.

Blow off valves are annoying. The novelty wears off pretty quick. Leave a recirculated bypass valve on there and slap an intake on. You get the same fun noise without running rich between shifts and other blow off valve related problems.

Nahh I like the BOV my last car had one. And I miss it alot. I figure 3000 is plenty enough to swap in a 1st or 2nd gen. I'll get exactly what I'm looking for a BOV, FMIC, and like 230hp. Then I can go to the outside ofthe car for paint ext. I figure in another 2years I'll have everything I want done. Slowly but surely.

3000 is not enough to swap your car, specially with an older engine that needs for maintance ( water / oil pumps, seals, belts, maybe some rebuilt ? ) it's a 20+ year old engine you are looking at, so no 3000 is NOT enough

If you shop around wisely and by some used parts where permited, 3000 is enough for an entry level turbo set-up for your 5s

Most people looking for a swap often forget all the other costs and lock on to their original estimate and then run out of budget.

I say you need to be budgeting for 5 grand.

3 thousand isnt enough for 1-1700$ engine, then all the belts and fluids..... What else am i missing. Im using my old transmission, already have the hybrid clutch thats a stage 3. ( got it for free ). So what are the other expenses ? JW.

And i cant turbo my 5s bc i dont have a 5s in the car. Its a JDM 2.0L, and i would LOVE to just fix it but i cant find a computer for it anywhere or a wiring harness for it.

sorry for misleading you, you are correct, yes you can get a 1st gen 3sgte in your engine bay up and running for under 3K, everyone who does it just choose to do it the expensive way.

my beams was total 3800 usd. and still not done.

You will be looking for unexpected situations. like a bolt here, nut there, wiring, tape, everythng adds up quickly.

wiring is just 400 if you have somebody handle it.

Do your analysis very good. You are also putting and older engine in a newer car.

Too bad you are too far away. But if you decide let me know.

If you think swapping in a gen 1 3s is cheap PM my buddy Zgear. We are doing a 1st gen swap, and hes spent well over 3 grand by now. And the engines not even in yet. And the BOV noise wears out FAST!!!! don't be a ricer man. besides the with the AFM the 3s runs like dooky when its vented.

You can always buy another celica and pull engine out. Or you can buy a swapped celica for the right price if you know what i mean.

I wish i could just fix mine and sell it and find a Turbo'd Celica ( same year of course ) and buy it.
I gues im going to just go car-less until i save up a little over 5K and then swap to a 3rd.

i know u got your eyes set on a 1st gen. but look at other gens price wise (as im sure you have) im thinking 975 for a first gen is TOP SIDE NO VASELINE ROBERY. i just bought a 4th gen and it was 1150 shipped to my front door from NJ. (fourth gens are 1998-2002)

long story short...IMO... get a newer gen, you'll get not only more "OOMPH" but more bang for your buck too! biggrin.gif

You want power but have no money. That's a problem.

Cheap. Reliable. Fast. Pick two.
