Im thinking about buying a beams engine for my st202 in the near furture.
Is it diffcult to make the change or is it ready to put in :-p? Anything i need to change or what so ever? Harness, gearbox or something? Is it a better motor than the 2.0 that i allready have? Rene --------------------

You will need to buy new gaskets/seals, plugs and wires, water pump, timing belt, and everything else needed to do a tuneup. Do that to the engine while it is out of the car. You will need a new wiring harness, but that should, but will not necessarily, come with the engine. Your current transmission will work if you have a 3S-GE engine, although it will need a new clutch. And again, if you have a 3S-GE, your motor mounts will work. I assume you do have a 3S-GE since you mentioned that you have a 2.0 liter now. Is the BEAMS better than what you have? Depends on how you look at it. It's 20 hp and 10 lb. ft. of torque more. But the swap will cost you quite a bit. So is BEAMS better? That depends on how much you are willing to spend for 20 hp, not to mention you'll have to start filling up with premium fuel.

You won't need an entirely new harness, you can have the BEAMs harness and your origonal harness converted to work and be plug and play. Depending on what your power goals are, the BEAMS and 3S-GTE are slightly different platforms. with the 3S-GTE, you can easily modify for great power gains.

I'm just curious, why would you want to swap from a normal 3sge to a BEAMs 3sge ? It's basically the same like what Richee said. Any feasible swap I think going from 3sge to 3sgte would be the only one. I dot think you can really upgrade unless you do that. Lol

any engine has to be serviced. Did I do it, no. LOL. I had no time, mine was low mileage. I dropped it in as is. But its coming out soon to be serviced. I took my chances....
Yes is double work. But I needed to have a running car.... -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... I hardly log in anymore, last login Today Sept 6 2019, and I was forced just to clarify a post. LOL

The work to swap in a 3S-GTE is essentially the same as a 3S-GE. You will need a couple of small parts extra (gauges, boost controller, etc.) but the swap itself really isn't any different. But going from a 3S-GE to a 3S-GE BEAMS is a lot of money for only nominal gains. Same cost, same difficulty, yet the 3S-GTE provides loads more power and the ability to easily get more any time you want it.

yeah you could run a turbo setup or a NA setup. Just take sometime to look around research, if you are looking at turbo check local laws & insurance etc since that might be an extra hidden cost.
(just a note I noticed on your info to the left it says " '95 ST ", shouldn't it be GT euro or SS2/3 if you have an import?) -------------------- |

NA setup you can do a basic stuff with Intake, spark plugs & leads, extrators (though you might not gain much, since the factory ones flow very good) & exhaust. Then looking for more power look at some sort of piggyback or an ECU. There is something called a"superchip" I think which a few UK members use gain about 5HP through the revs?? Next maybe look at camshafts. Or start from scratch & rebuild with high comp pistons, head work etc
basically keep throughing money at it and it'll fix it If you want more ideas check the NA sticky thread and scroll down to 3S-GE and have a look at the stuff there. This post has been edited by Rusty: Aug 9, 2010 - 3:05 AM -------------------- |

Yup you cant chip the Celica ecu. ICON superchip I wouldn't buy it though.
ECU's for 3S-GE theres: C-One, Tom's TECII, Greddy Emanage, Biltz(?) LINK G4 & atom, Motec, megasquirt. theres proberly more. -------------------- |

I presume HK is a sort of power measurement where you are?
Its very hard to answer that, depends on what you do. It's quite sad, since there are lots of parts for this celica/engine. However only a few really have done anything with it. Since most people swap to the 3S-GTE or BEAMS these days. The more work you put in (ie rebuiling) the more power you should make. Remember this is a NA 4 cyclinder, so your not going to make 500hp like the turbo guys. intake exhaust cams and ecu. should get you from 150whp to about ~175WHP though that could change since it depends on your cam choice and the tuning. -------------------- |

to answer your questions, you need to know what your goals are
what work is already done? what power figures are you chasing, how much work are you doing to the motor? how much money are wanting to spend, dailydrivable or weekend car or the odd track use? -------------------- |
