So now that i got my car almost fixed....i realized that my car doesnt want to go over 122 mph.
is that normal or is there still something wrong with the car, maybe just the tuning.

even though the rpm is around 4500 4800, the car doesnt really go anywhere...just wanted to make sure if thats normal or anywhere close to other GT celicas

thanks

the correct answer to the topic is...

"slow".
and its called a governor which is causing it so you car wont go any faster.
your car isnt hitting 122 mph on the 1/4 mile strip either being a 5sfe so I dont recommend you driving 122 mph out on the streets my friend.

unless you have a swap or a 5s turbo your not going to get anywhere fast lol, and yes your governer is whats telling your engine to cut fuel to save its ass from damage. and no there probably isnt anything wrong with your car lol.

lol true that...
but i remember that when my brother had the car, he touched 133 with a effed up engine...and it wasnt just the speedometer saying that, the gps also clocked the same speed...so it really cant be the governor...i always thought that our celicas never had one?

yea they do have a governer, its what save your engine from people who want to set a land speed record with an N/A engine. ive heard of people going faster, but speed isnt everything, cars dont have to be fast in my opinion, looks will go a long ways in my mind.

5SFE's and 7AFE's are about as fast as a cheetah with 2 broken legs, let's put it that way.

A Celica may or may not have a governor. I don't know. I know what I have gotten mine to do and what it wanted to do. The only thing I know is that I've never hit a governor and I've done better than 122. Quite a bit better. The problem is that the 5S runs out of power before it can hit a governor.

Yes, the Celica GT really is that slow. But it gets killer gas mileage. I found that it's best to milk the gas mileage and forget about ever going fast. Ever.

Slower than my bone stock audi and the audi is painfully slow. I think my rx7 makes more power at idle than the celica does at full RPM lol.

My 94 gt-s can reach about 195km/h on the speedometer, but ive had a few friends follow me and they say im going about 220km/h which is about 137mph, maybe your speedometer isnt right like mine, most stock speedometers arnt that great after 150 or so km/h (90mph).

Fast cars can get up to 140 very easily... I trap higher than 140 and street races usually go longer than 1/4.

X2, I cant stress this enough. sure it is fun, but if you sit down and think about it. you are putting your life one the line, and if you get caught.. I'm not sure what the laws are by you, but in Illinois if you get caught, you WILL pay out the ass. 2 years ago i was caught speeding down a country road, and got slapped with a $500 fine, 2 years conditional discharge and that's with a $1000 lawyer. starting this year, the fines have skyrocketed to mandatory thousands of dollars in fines and mandatory jail time. kindasad.gif that taught me a little lessen. I dont get the point in why you would want to go 140 mph, down a road, in the dark, with a car that shouldnt be able to go past 95 safely.

Now your car is completely different from what I stated above, with the numbers your LS2 has im sure you trap at the same my friend twin turbo ls2 does.

Comparing your car to a 6gc is like comparing a cheetah to a sloth, your car idles faster than a gt can go.

You mean acceleration then. Who cares about top speed? Leave that to McLaren F1's and Buggati Veyrons. You can turbo your 5SFE. I've seen 5SGTEs put down about 300hp. But if you don't want to turbo or swap, most you can cost-effectively do is your normal intake, header, exhaust mods. N/A, these cars are pretty slow...

Yeah, I dont have that much experience with these cars, but in general if you have any plans on making your car faster... just keep saving the money and go forced induction first. I remember spending boatloads of money on bolt-ons for basically crap performance. I think I only raised my trap speed 2-3 mph. For the price of all the boltons I could have bought used supercharger kit; which I did eventually anyway.

ST is governed at 111mph
GT has no governor

but dont go much faster than the speed limit. the potential force your car has increases by the SQUARE of your speed. AND stopping distance is much longer. in other words, if something happens that you don't expect, your fcked. you drive past that fire station near DEATHs house? it has on display a car that was wrapped around something. wanna end up like that?

but dont go much faster than the speed limit. the potential force your car has increases by the SQUARE of your speed. AND stopping distance is much longer. in other words, if something happens that you don't expect, your fcked. you drive past that fire station near DEATHs house? it has on display a car that was wrapped around something. wanna end up like that?

I would like a picture of resultant display "car".

And I agree with the wisdom in the thread - don't get reckless with your cars...or your lives.

Likely there is some amount of the driver still within that car as well.
I'm with Presure - this kind of thread deserves no response - it should be closed before anyone gets any stupid ideas. kindasad.gif

"Five of six teenagers crowded into a car died when the P-plate driver lost control and smashed into a tree at 120mph, in a crash emergency workers said was the worst they had seen.

The horror crash in Melbourne's north also left a 15-year-old girl seriously injured.

Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Tim Cartwright said the driver of the Ford XR6 sedan carrying six people from a party in Ivanhoe about 1.50am (AEDT) lost control on Plenty Road, Mill Park, in perfect conditions.

Mr Cartwright estimated the vehicle was travelling at 120mph when it struck and wrapped itself around the tree, splitting the vehicle apart.

"There are six young people on board, five of them have died instantly.

Those killed included driver Steve Johnstone, 19, and his half-brother Will Te-Whare, 15, both of South Morang.

Ben Hall, 19, and Matt Lister, 17, also of South Morang, were killed.

The injured girl, Elissa Iannetta, lost her 18-year-old brother, Anthony, in the accident.

Ambulance paramedic Ron McLeod said rescue workers had to lift three of the dead teens off the 15-year-old to free her from the wreckage."

All those pictures are in drivers ed, and in the safty driving class.

If you drive fast thats your decision. Be prepared to face the consequences when you mess up.

It isnt if you do, its when.

Thanks Stephen for posting those. Topics like this have no point without a grim reminder of the possible effects of speeding and driving recklessly on open roads.
