Ok, can someone on this forum give me a definitive answer? Everywhere I've looked, (I've just about reached the end of the interwebz) hasn't found me a definate stock weight of a 5th or 6th gen hatch. ( I've got a 5th gen hatch) everywhere I've looked ranges anywhere from 2500 on the nose to 2750. 2500 seems to light, 2750 seems a bit much. My buddy has a MK5 GTI, (3100 lbs.) He SWEARS it will absolutely dominate a FWD swapped celica, 5th, or 6th gen. The specs say anywhere from 6.3 to 6.9 0-60, and 14.5 - 14.9 1/4 mile. If anyone who has swapped can give me accurate times, it would be SO appreciated. From what I've seen and read, a healthy 3SGTE swap will run high 13's. How's the roll-on performance? What have some of you that have swapped beaten? Its really killing me, someone help.

this is a crap post, but to answer what i assume you're asking "what can a 3sgte fwd celica smoke on the highway if you drop it down?"

most swapped 6th gens that are on stockish turbos are 12-13 second cars on the street.
99% of us dont regularly track our cars, if we did, i am 100% sure we'd have a few mid to low 12 second cars at the track. traction setups own us. ![]() -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

i only ran a 14.4 on a 2nd gen 3s at i believe 103mph. Coming off the line for me is the biggest problems.

That's a hell of a trap speed for mid 14's. Yeah, sounds like you couldn't hook up. I'm plannin on runnin falken azenis. If I ever DO take it to the strip, ill throw some BFG drag radials on. I'm still on 14" black dog dishes, so we'll see. Should kill from a roll, even w/o really sticky tires. I'm running a S53 tranny, so I really don't wanna do anything from a dig. Its gonna be a highway runner. Honestly, i just wanna shut my roomate up, with his MK5 GTI. VW people are elitist pricks anyway.

OP- looking for weight aprox weight? Why not goto your local truck stop and pay the $24 dollars to have your car weighed? then build off your existing build. Gauge your setup from there.

run it on google maps or your garmin GPS i know does it.
look for "truck weight stations" They charge like 15-25 bucks depending on where you live. some will ask for a company name, just tell em what you're up to, and typicaly they'll just list it under your name or make some sh!t up, or just charge you under the table or something. I've never heard of any of them charging more than 25 bucks (and that was under the table) Oh and if they do it under the table they'll just show you. Cause my local one did it for me told me that it charges unless they cancel. Seeing as the weight should be like 10+ tons, a few thousand pounds can easily be construed as a bad reading / inaccurate to save their own asses. So a stock swap won't beat an APR chipped MK5 GTI? The specs are all over the place on these things.. I know SRT-4's stock are quicker than chipped GTI'S. Anyone ran an SRT-4?

Also, what rubber are those of you who have swapped runnin up front? if you want any traction at the track, buy a good set of DR's. i use BFG drag radials, although i've read the MT et streets are better. i ran 13.6 @ 108 a couple summers ago when i still had the 5sfte, and IIRC that was still with a crappy 2.2 60ft time. the 3rd gen is definetly faster than that, especially on the top end, where it matters at the track. ![]() -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

I'm just hoping if I ever do take it to the track, some falken azenis' deflated to about 20psi will hook up. I'm confident I can net high 13's. Maybe launch at 3k, I dunno. Hopefully that will minimize initial wheelspin, and they'll have enough grip to stop the spinning when boost hits.. I dunno. Damn, I wish they made cf hatches for 5th gens. Lexan is ridiculously expensive. Need to get weight off the back. No springs have a rate hard enough to prevent that squat. Ahhh well.. 63/37 weight distribution, yay. Wonder what kinda horsepower 12's takes for a 2600 lb car. Frustrating.

^^ I spun so much i think my best 60ft was 2.2 secs what tires did you have? that lucky goon manny has some serious driving skills, i saw his video at the strip a while ago and it didnt look like he was spinning lmao...i actually spun most of first and some of 2nd in that vid. even with the BFG DR's lowered down to like 16psi. the run that i ran the 13.6, i think i just got lucky and struck kinda a balance between spinning, and not bogging it off the line. still had that crapppppy 2.0+ 60ft time. if i can get that down to a 1.9 or 1.8, i should easily be able to run 12's. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

in a perfect world a car that weights around 2750 and has around 330 WHP would generate a 1/4 mile time of 11.8 seconds.
with an estimated speed of 115.436879999991 mph. note that, this is neglecting FWD / RWD / AWD configuration and any human errors / loss of traction so a very good driver with a FWD car with said specs should be able to get a mid 12's number, but the thing to keep in mind is that in the real world people dont drive a 1/4 of a mile at a time. -------------------- ![]() |

Very well stated. While 12's are enticing, I really just want RELIABLE power. If that means 250, fine. 330, fantastic. At the end of the day, for us, its more about driving enjoyment, than 1/4 times.

Dont expect getting into the 13s if youve never been to the track before...dont worry so much about power as you need to worry about technique and with fwd i wouldnt worry about quarter mile too much

I can only really speak from my own experience......I'm AWD so I'm not sure how much relevance this has. My 60' were terrible b/c I don't want to have to replace the clutch until at least next summer. I can only really get 2 or 3 good runs with sub 2.0 60' times before I can really start to smell it.
1994 ST205 WRC 120,000 km 150 dry compression on all 4........170 wet all 4 bone stock from top to bottom stock wheels and 205/55/16 Goodyear Nordic winter tires....unstudded. approximately 3,500 ft elevation ASL Best time was 14.7 best mph was 95.4 with a ~ 2.0'ish 60 ft. for reference my buddy's 02 Impreza w/ v7 STI swap traps ~97 w/ 3" downpipe / exhaust and a street tune at the same track. I was pretty happy with being able to hang with an (essentially) stage 2 sti. hope that helps. |
