I have a 1994 st i hate the gov speed limiter it wont let me go faster than 125
It doesnt bug me now but it will, im doing alot of things to the engine and car and i know in the future i will need to get rid of the gov speed limiter.
Does anyone know how i can do this?
Do you need a new chip?
Is it a wire that just need to be cut?
please help me out i cant find **** on the net to do this

Well theres a couple of ways of getting around it. You can cut the speed wire from the tranny and so the ecu will think you are going 0mph, but thats not great for the a/f ratio. You can put a switch on it so that it'll work fine until you wanna go over, and you can turn it off. You wont kno how fast your going.

Another way is getting something that will actually cut the limiter, which will cost you money. I think GReddy makes somethign? I"m not sure where the link i had was but its a Speed Cut Controller, something like that. I have an RSM (Rev/Speed Meter) and that cuts the the limiter of 112 on my ECU (JDM ecu's are limited to 180KMH, Jap Law).

Removing the speed sensor signal from the ecu does not effect anything but the the speed limiter. It DOES NOT affect A/F ratio. If you intercept the signal in the right place it does not disable the speedometer. Please, please don't respond to topics if you don't know what you're talking about.

The Apexi rev-speed-meter will also elimiate the top speed cut, but its 200 some dollars and not worth it IMO.

Please check out www.evilspeed.com and click on Tech for more information on the speed limiter defeat.

i dont think a new ecu is needed when going from auto to manual, since the new tranny will be controlled by the drive

a CEL might be triggered tho

also, MT 7afe ecu's are pretty cheap.

and it will work, but i dont remember if the wire is in a different pin out on the ecu or a different color. Mac, since u have a 95, the wiring is the same for your car and speedtoe's car

the wiring differences are slight between auto and manual ST's, the difference being a few extra wires with auto ST's which have to do with controling the auto tranny.

make sure you get the right year ecu for your car if your changing the ecu.

I bought the RSM for more reasons than cut the speed limiter, it also monitors 1/4 miles time, 1-100kmh time, and a bunch of other stuff. If you have the money, its a nice gadget to have.

boost and speed cut

click and scroll down a ways.. its for the MR2 turbo but will work with the 3sgte if you go that route.. could probably make it work for other apps but wouldnt really recomend trying unless you know what your doing.. I personally dont know alot about electronics other than the basics so maybe this would be easy to make work... hell its probably just a resisitor in there biggrin.gif

I'm not positive, but I don't think it can just be a resistor. I'm pretty sure its a pulse signal when it reaches the ecu. It doesn't go through A/D conversion anywhere that I can tell before that point. The RSM is great if you need all that other stuff but just remember, its just a glorified g-tech wink.gif.

I know just cutting the wire seems a little ghetto, but the price is right!

As far as the A/T stuff, I have no idea on that. All the development I've done is on a M/T.

The ECU is in the console near the front....almost under the radio but a ways down (on top of the exhaust tunnel).

in regard to the comment that the ECU is in the rear of the console of the 94-95 st-this is no the ECU it is the airbag control unit. As far as removing the speed limiter what I would do is see if there is someone that can reprogram your computer or fid you someone that can burn you a chip that is in your area. I have a 94 ST that i had a local person program my computer and I no longer have a speed limiter and I also have alot better performance and it only cost me $125 biggrin.gif
