I tried installing my brass shifter bushings today and I was able to get the linkage arm and the old rubber bushing off, but the brass sleeve inside the old rubber bushing stayed firmly stuck on the pin connecting to the tranny. I tried generous amounts of WD40 and pliers and I pulled and twisted for about half an hour and it wouldn't budge. Any ideas?

So the brass ring that was inside the oem bushing stayed on the pin when you lifted it off?

Yessir. And it was getting dark so I put everything back together. I should've thought ahead and taken a picture. But it's just a brass sleeve on the pin itself that I'm assuming is really rusted on. If the area wasn't so damn constrained it wouldn't be too difficult, but I can barely move my hand in the area. hammer and chisel? Tap the thing loose? If there was room... There's literally NO room. Room enough for one hand and a stubby flathead screwdriver. -------------------- taking too long to mod since '09

yup, thats pretty common, lots of PB blaster, maybe a little heat (CAREFUL AROUND THE FUEL LINES!!!) a sharp chisle, screwdriver, vice grips, pliers, or whatever, screaming, cursing, and drinking, just try to get it working back and forth, then wedge it up and off.
try not to squeeze it with pliers/vice grips TOO much, your just making it harder to get off when you do. ![]() :edit: also, it helps to properly title your threads. that way, people know what your problem is, before they click the thread, and it helps in future searches. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

yea, once you use PB, you'll have no use for WD-40.
at least not for getting bolts off. PB is a penetrating solution, WD isnt nearly as good for that. a can of PB Blaster, a few tools, a torch and lots of patience, and you can get almost any bolt out thats rusted or siezed in place. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

Propane torch, pb blaster, and brake cleaner. It's all you'll ever need.

I wish I could get a super awesome set of tools and supplies but alas, I live in a college dorm. There's no room for that stuff

4 drawer craftsman toolbox + a small cardboard box to hold my aerosol cans (paint, cleaners), propane can, and a large pry bar. It'll all easily fit in your trunk. Hell, it fits in the mr2's trunk.
