Does anybody know if its illegal to remove the stock airbox in NJ?

oh my God, people are putting Turbos/Superchargers on their cars, NJ also has lot of Corvette meets (half of those 'Vettes are pushing 500hp and up), those cars have ****load of mods, removing intake box is like the first step ... so WHY NOT!!!
