Lets start with basic history lesson, its kind of hard to track back all the changes, because in reality it will become dull and boring...

And the goal is not to bore anyone....

this is the ad in craiglist...

I was actually in the market for a toyota tacoma, and came across the celica, my wife would not let me get one. I needed to be practical. Long story short, i show her the vert, and she loved it.

We drove 500 miles to chattanooga tn to get it from a lawyer.

couple of shots... I was very exited when I first got it. Never had a convertible before....

The bad!, the antenna was not working, top did not work and the defroster baked...

once in my possession, i googled how to fix the retractable top and bounced over here... on 6GC.net. Figures...

Went trough a lot of pain, when the clutch went out. mad.gif Not mechanically inclined, changed it myself in over a week!!

wood power!

That done, the only thing i knew how to do good was interior stuff and crap.

My interior Progression over the times.

My rear window crapped out mad.gif

Fixing the rear convertible window.

then a couple of crazy things, not necessarily in that order but...

Bye bye tan colors..

MR2 Seats on my car...

Changed to grille speaker cover

Homelink installation.

Installed A newer radio

I had also decided to lower my car with Eibach, pain in the as ride, but handles great!! wink.gif

not liking the negativity...

Oh then I scored these Caldina rims on ebay!!!

Lowered on Eibach.

Camber Kit Installation

I started hoarding crap like crazy!!! I dont know why? Thats when i got the TRD Front bumper and a toms lip kindasad.gif

Exterior Changes like crazy

I moved to Jackson TN

and Guess What!! biggrin.gif

I did my first swap..

My beams Swap!

Then i overtook the task to fit the oem sideskirts...

The pain of OEM side Skirts on a Vert

then projectors, gt4 hood, and blah blah blah... lol

Then i decided to put new brakes in it...

My MR2 Brake setup

A hobby that never dies...

Junkyard diving.

And it continues on from here. Cannot and will not write 5 books about this, but needed a point to start for the future...

nevermind these links

I think ive come to the conclusion that you have to have a huge ego to own a vert...

Yes i love a vert above a coupe or hatch. Based on preference. Not on anything else. Like to drive topless... biggrin.gif

Yes there is a plethora of info that i can put out there about the past. But why talk about the past, when the future is what counts...

So this is not my memorabilia thread... LOL..

I included all the links to most of my threads here and there...

The fun part is about to begin...

well i felt that the name i chose is cheesy, plus there is a member with same name, so go figure.. summer is coming and focusing to finish the interior aspect of the car, i felt like i neglected that part too long.

The goal right now is to go back to stock interior, but decided to keep the silver parts. I dont know that yet..

I was able to score some interior parts from a convertible that will be placed instead.. and go from there. Hopefully i can get some work tomorrow...

well it was a bummed day, i got quoted 800 to do the upholstery, thats with me providing the materials. Really??? 300 worth of fabric.

there are only 2 shops in this town. I can get new leather for 700!!!! or leatherette for less...

So i may head that way. Really desperate because i want to drive the car again, and finish this.

Oh, now having second thoughts about the grfe, i have access to a 3sgte for cheap...

Its all about second thoughts and temptations... lol....

ill keep updated.

you need to do what we did with my uncle's Benz

rip the covers of your stock seats off, take them with you along with the material of your choice to ................. and have them make new covers for dirt cheap.

in our case the blank was filled with " Dominican Republic " but I'm sure you can do the same with almost any 3rd world country.

we paid 140 dollars worth of labor ( front and back huge Benz seats ) to have leather covers made for the benz, and that was going to the best shop known to make sure the job was done superb.

I'm planning to do the same next time I go with my recaro seats biggrin.gif

well dont know when it happened but toyota changed the vert rear trim from two parts to a single trim

single

two part

I've always loved the option of having these because easy access to the rear window seals, and repair. But could not find those.

Alas, in a junkyard, so i spent some time with them and 220 grit and 400 grit, getting most of the superficial scratches out.

yes, dull looking. But i found a little secret. At first i was doubtful, but the result amazed me.

Pictures did not do justice, it almost looked like i picked it up from the dealer.

2 hours well worth it...

more pics to come as the interior gets remodeled...

ok more progress here....

i really liked the way it ended looking...

next was to revert to stock the a/c cluster, i got tired of the mods i had made....

much nicer, i really like it this way for now.

polished this suckers! not done yet, but don't want to put in a lot of time....

then next step will be to fix the gauge cluster. I had originally put there stick-on, and made the error of gluing them. yes that was a bad choice.

i broke the needle to see how far the speed gauge goes, so it will help me calibrate...

oh and i have the needle from the beams swap. and the replacement face...

more to come, ill get the A/C charged this weekend and such....

went ahead and finish a couple of things that needed to be done..

trying to go away from gray painted trim so i got new parts and they needed a shine

and installed looked even better

the missing parts will get treated very soon..

also after one and a half freaking year, yes, ive said it, i finally buttoned up the speedometer, was too lazy to calibrate, but no its done...

and even better on the car...

then i installed all the missing parts, and my dashboard is complete...

oh and after i did the sparks today, took it for a spin...

Yeah, the 7th gen is too clunky in my experience. I'd run OEM before running that. TRD FTW.

well all good things come to an end, i was hoping to get another swap soon, but as of right now, the beams stays. I cannot work on 2 cars. Altough im not selling, i will continue to fix the little buggers here and there and paint the car and maybe call it a day.

I need to finish my 1gc, i spend more time with it anyways. Once im done ill may come back and revamp this one ground up....

thigns left to do..

light dimmer
rally light
trd springs
new top
fix rear glass.

No wonder the Teins tend to sit a bit lower, you've a lot less coils.

well here it is, is not as low as the teins, but lower than the OEM, the ride has improved substantially. Im not interested in slamming this car. I had enough trouble in my driveway. Scraping the trd bumper. Much better choice for an old guy...

love TRD technology.

Hmm...the springs don't necessarily look new to me in the picture, but I'll say anyway that the TRD springs will take a while to settle, in my case about a half year. Your engine is heavier so it probably won't take as long.

i have not been able to do several things in december,

However i got this (decal is temporary, as i dont like decals, but it shows who got it for me, thanks to daniel for the hook up)

so i finished my swap, the last piece of puzzle is here...

this is set aside for rainy day..

Im not really bored with the car, but i have come to realize the beams sits perfect there, and the Gt4 hood does not..

I am tempted to remove the hood, as it just calls to much attention, and really dont want to modify the bumper. So it may be coming off, as well as the wing in the future, got new rims coming, and will try to make car look like its non modified.

thats what i want, i will keep the beams, and change the top and clean here and there....

yes the red cables will go... Anyone wants them?

Been following your build and am quite impressed with your car.
Where can I get the titanium pins for the motors from?
And also noticed that your car has macstrut front shocks, so waiting to see how you mount the calipers and what discs will you be using as I'd like to go the same route.

You might be taking the hood and wheels off? I'm kind of disappointed. I love this car. You know what you're doing though, and I know it'll look good.

I'm not trying to be a vulture, but I know it's gonna come off that way. But if you end up selling the hood or Caldina rims, I know a certain blonde who drives a black BEAMS powered hatch who would gladly drive to Tennessee and pick them up. I love the look of your car though, so I'm dying to see what the next look will be.

That's more like it! I just realized I'm only 3 hours from you. I thought I was 5-6 hours. I still need to come check this car out one day. It remains one of my favorites.

By the way, how are you liking the OEM intake compared to the HKS?

my $.02

Berto, sell the hood and TRD bumper, you can get some good $ for them both.

Go back to 97 front end, since you already have the side skirts, maybe throw on some SSIII front splitters and Hiro rears...maybe.

With your projectors and get an SSIII front grill, just like Toyota intended.

^^ I think these look good, better with the projectors and a grill imo.

Come back to sleek and smooth.

IMO the TRD front would look better with an OEM hood. But then again good paint of the gt4 could change my mind I suppose.

Good! Then I have excellent proposition for you. I, for one, am a fan of PS3 as well - this make me sad because mine was broken by YLOD. I also like seeing progression on your vert, as it is probably the most well-done example on this website. Thoroughly Toyota, yeah? So what we do is combine these for maximum profit...I'll buy that PS3 from you so you can spend more time on BEAMS vert, and we all profit. Post pictures of progression and BAM!

the one thing I really like about the convert, is the black sun visors. nice progress. seems as though your keeping the beams for a while more.
