I don't know much about how these cars run or whats expected to happen to them. So firstly I wanna do some maintenance and make sure everything's fine with it. As of yesterday it was at 188,888 miles. Its a salvage because the previous owner slammed into the back of a Monte Carlo. The only non cosmetic damage that I know of was to the radiator which has since been replaced. The only problem with the car I know of (besides a bent rim, haha) is the trannys getting old, its an auto btw. It takes a good 5 seconds for reverse to catch and pop in, and when its shifting up (especially into 2nd) it kicks but the revs don't go crazy or anything. Once the car is in 4th (O/D) I have also noticed in 4000rpms area the car seems to stop giving more power. It doesn't stop, it just won't send more power. I heard thats because the 5SFE engine doesn't usually have anything left past 4,400rpms but I just wanted to check in on that. Other then that, I think I have short in my wiring. Whenever I turn my high beams on all the inside lights dim very noticeably. When I bought the car it came with 2 15s and P15 amp (too loud for sure) and those will make the lights dim out almost all the way when they kick hard. So what do yall think I need to look at/do to get this car running like shes new again?

tl;dr It's maintenance time for the first time, what do?

congrats, u have a 96-99 front bumper and fogs...tune up do cap, rotor, wires, plugs, and fuel filter....inspect the valve cover for any leaks, and oil pan.

i just threw away my old auto tranny i woulda said just pay shipping but o well now u can look for a 5 speed swap,

as for your power issues, have the timing checked, if it hasn't had the timing belt done lately its possible its off.

Yea the guy that had it before me looked 3 months for a 95 bumper, couldn't find one and just put that one on there. As for the fogs, their not hooked up, lol. Theres a switch in there but I don't feel like running the wire. Umm lets see though, timing belt hasn't been done in a long ass while, I know that. I think it was last done in '04 at 105,000 miles. I know a couple gaskets just got replaced cause they were leaking but thats all fixed now. Wires really need to be changed, their the original ones as far as I know. Haha. Plugs need to be change for sure. As for the fuel filter, I have no idea where its even at. Also I think my left motor mount is lose cause they car vibrates and ticks from that side but I don't know where its at either.

I have high hopes for this car, I just hope it doesn't **** on me like that '97 Cherokee.

Haha thanks. I'm so jealous of you guys on this site. When I first bought the car I didn't think anyone did anything to these cars. The only other non-stock Celica I've seen here is a pre-facelift GT with a fart can but after lookin at yalls cars I only hope I can get somewhere close to them. I have no idea where to even start. Haha.

Thanks man. Yea its the only one I've ever seen, I feel so unique to have it. smile.gif As for a 5 speed, I'm gonna be completely honest with you, I don't know how. I mean I've never tried but yea...I'd like to though. It'd be nice.

That's how I felt around where I live. I never saw any when I first got my car, but little by little, I've been seeing them pop up haha
The 5spd swap is a little investment though, I'm doing it with my car and I also have a full setup for sale

Yea its pretty funny, I don't have a problem with the trucks cause most are actually nice. The Mustangs piss me off though. 240s are starting to come in like crazy to, all the homebrew ricer "JDM" fags.
Well maybe if you still have it here in a month or so when I get some more cash you'll have yourself a deal.
I just bought a WR Secret Weapon Short Ram intake for the first mod in my car. Was on sale for $150 for so I got it. Still trying to decide if I wanna keep the stock heat shield box off or leave it.

Congrats on the new intake, 95 GT, and joining the 6gc.net and NC 6gc families!

I may be moving up that way in a couple of months so be on the lookout for a red GT with bronze rims. thumbsup.gif

I'm not quite sure what weird black box your talking about. Lol. But yea those are some old school BBSes haha.

I had no idea I had it until I read the Owners Manual (yea I still have the original '95 Manual. Haha). I've never payed attention but it says a light cuts on for 3 seconds letting you know your ABS is on. Never noticed it though, always to busy fiddling with something.

I'm surprised no one commented on my cruise control. If you look closely its turned upside down, it just spins around freely. Its so broke. Lol.

Hahaha oh that. Yea I have no idea what that is. tongue.gif And alright thats exciting. I gotta pay this kid off $200 for the rear struts/rest of audio components and then I'll start saving for it. If I keep getting scheduled at work like I am now though, I should have enough money to buy it in no time. If I did, would you be willing to give me a full walk through? Haha.

I just woke up, so after my shower to wake my ass up, I'll go stick my head in there and tell yall what I can find out. I'll take some more pics and post em if yall want too.

Edit: My friend just had a look at it turns out its vacuum feed. Still not quite sure what it is though. He says hes seen huge ABS modules like that before but he personally thinks its the Cruise Control.

I gotta say, I have the 5s, and I know where the ABS (stock) is located, and I saw no lines or actuator for ABS. I see a big ol mystery black vac feed thingy in its place. BTW, a cruise on a 5s is in a different spot, its behind the radiator fans, next to the battery. And its got a wire that runs from the accelerator pedal to the actuator, I know 100% cause I pulled all my cruise control crap.

Haha, I honestly have no idea what it is. I'll take some closer pics of it and look for my ABS light in the morning. I'm pretty sure my car has it cause it has a section on it in the manual. But who knows.

Dont look for the light alone, also look for an ABS actuator...............Like from this thread or what this................

A pic with an arrow pointing to the ABS ? Wow, that exists?
Anyhow..........ABS is overated anyhow, (and no, I'm not trying to start one of those discussions), as far as Im concerned its another "I can do what I want, casue the tech in my car will save me" devices.

After talking to the previous owner just a minute ago, thats my dead Cruise Control module, my ABS module is located under my brake fluid. Well take pics possibly tmrw but I'm working a double so idk if I'll have time.

Edit: I actually like having ABS. I'm not a ricer nor do I aspire to be one so I don't care about my handicaps. I just want my car to look nice, drive nice, and have some good performance while still allowing ME to drive it. Cause let me tell you I'm horrible. I just got pulled over for forgetting to turn my lights on all the way. Lol. I've only had my license for 3 months (yet I'm 19, go figure) so I still can't drive worth a ****. Not calling you or anyone a ricer, just saying. I love your, scratch that our cars, their all gorgeous and have amazing features, details, and mods. smile.gif

ST and GT OEM installed cruise control accuators are located in different spots.
ST has it on the pass side, GT right next to the battery.

Travisxcore, again, your car does not have ABS.
What you have there is an aftermarket (or dealer) installed cruise control.
It doesn't matter what the manual says, I assure you, your car does not have it.

We really need a meet up. Good cheap parts (shipping sucks so bad) and knowledge are two hard things to come by. Plus my reverse gear pissed off earlier, its working again but that was quite a scare. I really need to swap it out, but I don't have the money for a rebuild or the money to get one installed if I bought that 5 speed.
