Hey everyone.. The time has finally came.. I've had my car for 6 years now.. And have came a long way.. From making my car stock to looking like a beast.. Now finally i'm swapping a 3rd gen 3s into her and completing the beast.. March 13 was my start date.. Took my hood and front bumper off and drove it down to my dads shop. Here are some pics
![]() Pic after removing hood and bumper. ![]() ![]() Starting to pull the motor at the shop. ![]() ![]() After 3 hours we finally got the engine pulled from the car.. ![]() My very first DR TWEAK pose ![]() The next day my 3rd gen 3sgte came in with the e153 trany (limited slip) ![]() ![]() Couple pics of the engine.. Next thing was taking the awd trany off and getting the engine on a stand. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Few pics of engine on the stand. Next we took the intake manifold and throttle body off to get my wiring harness off ![]() Can see the harness laying on the ground lol. Then we started to take the timing cover off. Did our marking, and started taking cam gears off, valve cover off, Heat shields, and took my oil pans off. Here are pics of us doing them things. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() After we did that.. We put the new oil pump on. And the new Water pump. And re-sealed both the oil pans.. Here are a couple pics of that getting done ![]() ![]() This pic is with new idler pulley and tensioner pulley, new water pump oil pump. And replaced cam seals. Put cams on And ready for timing belt.. as of now what we have done.. New cam seals, new oil pump, new water pump, idler pulley, tensioner pulley, new timing belt.. And the timing all put back together. And re sealed both oil pans.. This last sunday. I got my valve cover back, put that on. Here is a pic of how the engine sits right now. ![]() This post has been edited by celiracer: Aug 22, 2011 - 3:13 PM -------------------- ![]() |

I think there have been more 3s swaps in the past year then i've seen on the forums the entire time i've been here.
I think its from everyone working together and sharing information when others ask, and the how to section. Anyways, the swap is coming along really quick! -------------------- 2nd Gen 3s-gte.... It lives!

the only thing i noticed, was the worm clamp on the HFHOE (the hose off the oil cooler to the block)
that area gets quite hot, i'd be worried about the clamp cutting into the soft rubber over time and creating a leak. couldnt see it last night from my ipod. looking great tho man, your making great progress! -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

Just curious why you didnt spin your turbo housing to make it easier to run the intercooler?

thanks manny. about the clamps i'll have to let my dad know about that.. only reason there on there is because my dad hates the metal clamps. every car he works on that has those and has to replace them he puts the screw clamps on. so will let him know. may change that back if going to create problems. and about turbo i'm leaving it there because i've purchased intercooler and piping already done for the set up.

Just curious why you didnt spin your turbo housing to make it easier to run the intercooler? because its not that easy. you can just spin the compressor housing, without creating a place to mount the wastegate, so that it works properly. you'd be suprized how much that little rod will flex a peice of metal. besides, clocking the turbo down really dont save much as far as piping (its litterally one less bend) for a stock turbo setup, the trouble to do it really isnt worth the hassle and potential issues. now, once you go to another turbo with an external gate, the game changes. ![]() celiracer, your dad must be old school..lol most old school guys i talk to hate them as well, but as long as they are in good working order, they are a better choice for those locations, for the exact reason i discribed above. the worm drive clamps will bite into the rubber, especially if you sinch them down tight. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

Ha Ha yea manny he is old school.. Been a mechanic for 35 years now lol. And just hates using those clamps.. Specially re-using the old ones. But we'll see what happens.
Now hopefully be working on engine some more today.. Got my intake manifold, heat shield and my water neck back from paint.... Came out amazing.. Hopefully have pictures up in the next day.. -------------------- ![]() |

Well it's been a while since i've posted up my progress.. Haven't been really working on it much lately since i haven't had my harness back yet.. But good news is the harness will be here friday. But what i have got done since is got my greddy flange welded on my piping and sent it in to get powder coated that polish look. Got my stock gt cables out today and getting ready to install the st205 cables and got the internal portion of shift link put on. Gonna drill and tap the two holes tonight and get other part on so i can touch up paint in again. Hopefully once the cables get in friday we will be getting intake manifold and throttle body back on and get my fly wheel resurfaced and get the trany and clutch put on and hopefully have it dropped in the car in the next couple weeks. Will have more progess and pics soon!

Please let me know
any pics of the front and that back mount for the e153 swapped people? Let me know or post on here. thanks -------------------- ![]() |

you need the st205 rear mount and bracket, along with the driver's side mount and bracket, then everything just mounts up 100%.

Very great progress. I'm happy to see more Celica drivers completing their goals for their cars. Do you mind if I ask what type of wide band you are using? Didn't see it posted. If you did post, my apologies. I must have missed it. -Ryan |

I got them on now an looks good. dont forget the spacer, goes between ur tranny and the mr2 inner, also, need more grease cause of the space in and dont push too much on it when installing cause it will fall out in the inner when installing, and dont push it out too much too oo, and you will need longer bolt too This post has been edited by Needles: Jul 1, 2011 - 2:33 PM |

needle. from the research i've done not everyone needs spacers. just seems depends on the car. I don't have spacers on my set up. and everythings on and looks fine turned wheels all the way both ways and looks good.

Well as of now. everything on car is together and hooked up. Only thing i got left is the one pipe for intercooler and figure out my wide band. I had it all wired up. and the gauge was working. But i couldn't get the little led light and push button to work. So i'm still trying to figure that out.. I'm hoping i'll be able to get it done. I'm ready to go out and drive this beast lol.

I'm using the innovate lc1 wide band.. The calibration led isn't working.. Pretty much figuring out that the controller module has to be bad..
GOOD NEWS!! I got the intercooler piping all hooked up last night and got the car started. Well it started and runs. But it's running really rich.. Burning way to much fuel. checked fuel pressure regulator and the fuel pressure. That checked out fine. I can't get it to idle when i let off the gas it just die's. my dad and i have been trying to figure out what it could possibly be. And help would be great. Thanks guys.. -------------------- ![]() |

At what idle do you have to keep it from stallng? Have you adjusted the idle control screw?

Where is the idle screw at? we were wondering if this engine had one. And i can keep foot on gas a little under 1k rpm. and it'll sit there but the rpm will jump a bit. And whats this fuel pump relay thing batman is talking about? i just wired my fuel pump in. didn't know i had something to wire in with it? it sounds good. and misses sometimes. But i'd like to get it to start and idle before we get to working on the other things. I just wish i knew what was wrong. blah..

they're not bad IMO.
If tweek did the wiring then IIRC he doesn't use the fp relay, the fp is wired to run at full power all times. Not a bad thing, but not the stock way. Change the 02 sensor first. You can use the st185 02 and splice the plug to the 205 one. post some pics of the engine in the bay. I want to see if you have everything hooked up right (vac lines, ect), it could just be something simple. -------------------- |

Alright. I will take pics of bay and get them up hopefully today.. I order'd a sensor for a 93 all track. But i have to splice it in? And would the 02 sensor really make my car not idle and run rich? I'll have em up shortly

are you using an 02 now ?
A bad 02 would make it run very rich, it determines the a/f ratio. -------------------- |

On my car I had to switch to my own stock 02 over the Innovative one that came with it. Also I thought that your stock 02 for the computer should be in the normal spot and you weld in a bung for the Innovative. I ended up doing that. got rid of the one it came with bought a stock one, then bought another stock one for the factory location. The Innovative is nice and accurate but it really is a PITA This post has been edited by JuMPiiN: Jul 10, 2011 - 5:40 PM |

lol ya. it's not the o2 from the wide band that's bad. it's the actual controller that's bad. I can't even calibrate it. but yes i'm running stock 02 from engine. pretty much only thing i didn't replace besides all the sensors. but hopefully that will be the problem. i'm just wanting to know if the 5th gen altrac one works. and if i have to splice in the wires? cause if so i'll be doing that tm.

So rechecked fuel pressure and my fuel pressure with the +b and the other bridged and key on.. it reads 42lbs and then when i start the car and keep gas pedal around 800rpms it puts pressure to like 50lbs... My dads wanting to re wire the stock fuel pump in to see if changes anything. But i think thats a bad idea? and would hurt the engine? any info on that?

as said before, pump does not regulate fuel pressure, fuel pressure REGULATOR does that, so if fuel pressure is higher than stock, look at the regulator, not the pump.

DG. No check engine light was on.. and no codes were going off.. When we unplugged the IAC the check engine light came on. But then shut off when we plugged it back in. So we know the light works lol.. But we figured it out.. when we took regulator out it had fuel coming out of the vacuum port. So thats my rich/idle problem. and also had the iac line capped off so that will prob fix my idle problem also lol.. Hopefully get my part today or tm and get her running lol.

Fuel pressure regulator came in today.. Got it put on and put a filter on my IAC line.. Started her up. And she'll idle finally lol.. Idle is at 200 RPMs tho. And at that RPM i'm at 38 or 39lbs of fuel pressure.. That seem right? or still to high? My cars still smoking garage out in couple min. And seems to still smell gassy.. So wondering if there is somthing else screwed up. or if it's about right if we adjust the idle.. thanks in advanced

Well got idle up to about 1k. But while its running it'll run fine at that idle then it'll idle down by itself (while still warmed up) And start blowing smoke. And miss a few times. (with brand new plugs only had car running for twenty min with them) then it'll go back up to 1k rpms and clean itself back out.. and few min later it'll go back down to 8 or 9 hundred rpm start blowing smoke and missing. Then go back to clean 1k idle. does it all the time. Turned motor off. checked plug and there all pitch black already from only running twenty min.. So i'm thinking o2 sensor or a coolant temp sensor is bad or somthing making it do that.. any ideas? thanks getting happy that it atleast idle's now lol.
And after it ran for that twenty min to a half hour the check engine light came on. So gonna prob hook it up to diognostics tm. And check that out.. Maybe will tell me my problem that i have now lol.. We'll see. getting pumped and ready to role this out onto the streets tho lol. Also i found out. when i rev engine to about 4k and try to go farther. it stops at 4k and goes to like 2500 and starts burning rich again and rpm wont go higher then 4k. I know it seems like i'm having a crap ton of problems with this swap.. wish there was someone around my neck of the woods with this swap to help me out lol.. But it's just me around here lol. So u are using the old oxygen sensor that came with the swap? If so... Buy a new one on partsgeek for 95 mr2 turbo for like 53 bucks.

its not the oxigen sensor, i had no one on my car for one run and it doesnt do that bad,
the normal rpm is 700, your engine try to get to normal rpm after warm up, i have seen other treahd that ppl cant go more than 4k but i dont know much about it, check the old threat, you should find anwser GL, |
