So I got this horse used, and it would appear the previous owners ran it barefoot through thorn pastures. I noticed two bolts missing from the engine (seriously), from the head and valve cover. I'd appreciate it if anyone knew offhand the size of these bolts so I can go put them in.

Also, that engine is mad dirty. I'm thinking I should replace the valve cover gasket, because something's leaking. Motor runs great though, not burning oil at all.

Don't ask me why, because I don't know. But there aren't supposed to be bolts at those two spots. You're fine, man.

They are just extra mount points for different accessories....Basically as far as the engine is concerned if the bolt or nut isn't holding something on then it doesn't need to be threaded into the hole. The first one appears to be a mounting point for a hook to pull the engine with

OK, awesome, I'm glad to hear this. Thanks for the answers. I know the picture is grainy, but does it look like the valve cover gasket needs replaced?

Haha, yeah that's for sure. Any recommendations on what to use? I don't have a hoist so I can only clean so much, but any bit would be worth it....such a shame to see a 6gc in this condition.
