Your Opinion!, GT4 OEM Rims Options

Ok, so really I don't have the budget to buy new rims for my gt4.
I have the oem rims on it, I thought I'd follow a guide from the forum and paint them semi-gloss black to fit with the spoiler mount blocks and the set of lips and side skirts I ordered today...what do you guys think?

what colour is your car?
i always planned on painting mine a darker grey (like a dark gun metal grey). In my opinion black wheels are jus too dark, but a shade lighter is fine.

No need, essentially, to spend 800 for wheels. If you wanted to refinish your present set, why not look for some slightly beat used wheels? Refinish them and presto, new-looking wheels on the cheap.

Yes and those rims are light and very solid because of the shape...you know...driving on Quebec roads can be deadly haha we understand each other on that! Gunmetal could be an idea! but I really thought black to fit with the spoiler blocks and the kit of lips I'll put on it!

Sure it does! 5x100, all celicas have the same pattern. But I think I saw some 16in x 8in OEM rims on a wrc gt4 that were awesome, don't know where you could find those. But for the 7th gen gt-s, you could get a 400 buck set i guess, take a look on lespac or kijiji.

I wanted 17 but meh... I think I'll wait even for used rims because I just got the new tires on it, so I guess this year I'll totally scrap the tires and next year when I need new ones, I'll buy rims with it

I fit 7th gen gts wheels on my gt4 with 15mm spacers, you could get away with 10mm on the back if necessary but 15mm is the absolute minimum for the fronts

I will look into it!...next summer I'm on my budget line right now because I spent on rebuilding the car! could hardly get summer tires! I'm stuck on all seasonal tire haha but ah well! at least I consider myself lucky to be able to drive a GT4...not gonna whine about little details

dont go 6.5 wide on a gt4, 8 inch wide is also unnecessary.

215 tyres are perfect, 225 is acceptable but too much rubber, going 8 inches wide will give you drift stretch on anything smaller than 235 (which is way too much rubber), you'll end up with clearance issues no matter what you do.

also dont go smaller spacer in the rear than up front, you'll end up with a 10mm smaller track in the rear, you'll have a sudden 180 degree fishtail when you least expect it, there will be no warning of giving in. wider or equal rear stagger is a MUST.

17x7 or 17x7.5 with 215/45/17
or 16x7.5 with 215/50/16 or 225/50/16

dont go below 7 inches wide or above 7.5 inches wide... and dont over or under 3% of factory rolling diameter. You're just ruining Toyota's perfect setup, Who are we to decide compared to Toyota engineers?

I don't like factory either but c'mon function over form. Don't listen to ricers, hella flush or honda kids. Or people that have no experience with st205's.

ST204/ST202 looks similar to ST205 and thats where the similarities end. This car is built for speed, speeds which are totally unforgiving if you go experimenting with skinny wheels and reverse stagger.

Didn't you have an ST 1.8 before this?

From what you posted earlier about having an accident and not knowing if the car can handle high speeds, it sounds like you need to just drive it and enjoy it as is before you start trying to modify it with pointless intakes and sh*tty NA spec rims.

As one guy posted, sitting at your computer isnt going to help you learn how to handle your car.

I'd be out driving my car if it wasnt in the shop getting a custom manifold!

Hey deluzion, are you racing your car? Maybe not everyone is, so lets just all enjoy our car the way we want it.. What difference does it make to ride on 6.5 7 or even 12in tires if your not even racing with the car? Maybe its just a great car and lets take good care of it.

Yeah I have to desensitize myself before going back to high speeds....but no need to be pushing the car every time I sit in it! You need to understand, to me this car is imported and was never sold in my country, I'm doing my best to find alternatives if something breaks on me! My intake is broken from the accident...what's wrong asking if a CAI or SRI is a good idea instead of spending all the money on imported OEM parts from UK or JPN? Doesn't matter if you're racing the car or not, Toyota put 7.5" wide rims on a GT4 for a reason, not just because you spent an extra $80,000 to buy the car in the first place.

6.5" wide rims will slide around in the wet, 4WD is designed for traction. the moment you get on power with the quick spooling hella torquey 3s-gte/ct20b combination you WILL go sideways. Hell you can even do it in the dry with 225 tyres as it is.

I'm sorry for coming across the way I do but I'm passionate about the GT-Four and I HATE to see people ruin them and drive them potentially unsafe. Their numbers are dropping, theres no more new ones being produced as with the WRX and the Evo so the worldwide numbers aren't exactly going up, So naturally I strongly advise against unsafe practises and general b.s.

The amount of respect I pay the GT4 is like, well I've always bought cheap stuff before and have never once bought a genuine TRD or HKS part before in my life until this car. Not even for the SS-III I had. That's just how I am about the GT4.

EDIT: As opposed to WRX and Evo I should say.

Here, that's what I call ruined...6k to get her back on the road...I'm not being cheap...heck, my car is already modified...oversised, and everything on my engine is rebalanced, everything was rebuild...my engine has only 16,000km on it...more than 5k already spent on my car, only for the engine...I'm not playing dumb, why do you think I asked for the intake? my engine is totally modified...even the pulley is modified, I wanted to make sure I had nothing to change on the OEM intake...I'm no hella flush or look at my rims yo! I even pushed my career goals further to be able to drive her again, so it's not my fault if I can't get brand new tyres for this year...

The cheap part isn't a dig, just the suggestion of 6.5" wheels and smaller spacers in the rear suggestions are no-no's in my books.

I've noticed some people feel this way about Neon's GT4, Personally I give the guy thumbs up, the worst you could do with a china turbo is shoot a turbine blade out your exhaust or get one lodged in your intercooler. It's a bit different to a modification which may look good, but give you another repeat (possibly worse leading to death) of what you've just shown in this picture right now.

I do want you to enjoy your car, but I don't want you to die or have an accident over an ill advised modification.

Also the whole point of explaining the high speed capability is so you know what the machine should be capable of in optimal form, anything less and theres something wrong, It's not that I'm trying to discuss racing at all

No worries, I don't race on streets, nor push the machine too hard...I like taking sharp corners from time to time though...I don't know how strong my car is with the gas pedal at the bottom...never had the guts to try! It's already very powerful because of all the mods...all I need to do now is put back the stock intake and change the darn under splash panel! (which I don't know if it's worth it...dust and crap from the streets is still coming from the empty hole in the bumper...) and then the car will be back as new!

We drive these cars hard because it's fun, but hard for these cars means speeds which are generally unsafe or damn near impossible for most cars. At these speeds there's a whole lot more to go wrong, a whole lot quicker, and one thing that is off can put off the entire 4wd rally advantage when you're least expecting it.

Ohh by the way, I didn't smash the car because of bad driving skills...November 26th 2010, first freezing rain in Montreal, I was on ice, I was on my way to work, the wind blew and I lost control of the car and hit the side wall with the front, the gained control back and lost it again to hit the wall on the other lane with the back of the car...luckily no other cars were involved and I wasn't hurt, except for a whiplash that I still have right now

edit: yes it was cosmetic...but the frame was twisted and the wide body was flattened but no mechanical was broken except the radiator and grill...finding the parts was the hardest!

Would a 10mm width difference do that much? What's the friction coefficient and the total added area with this size difference on 16in dia. Wheels? Unless we're trying to optimize smthg for racing, i think it just doesn't mather that much..

No tyre fitter I know of would recommend ballooning a tyre like that, the life of those tyres will almost be halfed by simply wearing out the inner lips way before you ever get down to low tread in the middle.

215 is fine on a 7, it's too much on a 6.5.

You won't get compliance or certification like that in this country I don't know about yours.

There are reasons for this stuff, mostly due to safety. Undermining the safety of a high performance vehicle which relies on the safety things put in place is just stupid.

What next? Revert the GT4 brakes to USDM GT brakes because the pads are cheaper? Disconnect the rear drive shaft because the gas milage will be cheaper?

Do you have chopped springs too?

Cheap and easy and better looking than factory height?

Because coilovers are too expensive for you?

What's the point eh...
