Natalie's car with the GT-Four hood and bumper has one, but I don't think I've ever seen a stock USDM hood with that spoiler on it.

No USDM cars came with them... the only cars that they came on were JDM WRC ST205's and ALL ST205's in the UK. A lot of Euro ST20x's also came with them.

In case you didn't know, the purpose of the spoiler is to keep the hood from flexing at ultra high-speeds. wink.gif

UK spec ST has the hood spoiler ! JDM don't . Also if you have a hood spoiler your washer jets will have a higher profile!

That's what I said in my previous post... the ONLY JDM 6th gens that had them were the WRC ST205's.

not disagreein here but I had heard it was to help keep the wipers stable at high speeds.. I guess one of the drivers for toyota in the WRC was b*tchen about the air causing turbulence makin the wipers move, but I could be wrong on that just kinda remember reading that somewhere

That may be true as well, but I've also read that it's there to keep the hood from flexing as much under high speeds. The engineers noticed that the hood would sometimes flex, sometimes alarmingly bad, so some cars have the wing there in order to strengthen the hood. wink.gif

Yeah, I said that too in my post above... but I said ST20x biggrin.gif

As for the purpose of the bonnet spoiler, where did you get that info from? Because according to my sources, Toyota discovered that when the car traveled at 250 km/h or higher, the bonnet would flex. As a result, it was added for additional downforce.

I would like to gather as much info on this as possible so that we could all come to the correct conclusion. wink.gif

EDIT: Oh, I forgot to provide the link, which I'm sure a lot of you have probably seen by now. This site is what I used to identify and confirm that my clip was a WRC. I believe this guy, Dan, who posts on GT4OC.com, has done all his homework and intensive research. I trust his word.

Ya know there i got that info from, i just made some research (accidently smile.gif ) After repainting i didnt put it on my car of the hurry, and after the 120 km/h my wiper started to wave, so i satrted to look for the proble solution, and i found that i was missing somthing smile.gif After i added it, everything came back to normal... So thats why i said that it purpose was to keem the wipers down smile.gif Maybe im wrong, but thats what happend to me smile.gif

That's interesting Doggy. Maybe the spoiler serves multiple purposes. What I find odd tho is that I drive that fast all the time and never notice my wipers waving. I'll see if I can contact some reliable people on some GT-FOUR forums and find all possible reasons behind the spoiler.

NOTE to us Yankees: 120 KM/H = 75 MPH

Thanks Doggy...

All the purposes of the hood spoiler you guys mentioned make total sense. Helicopters have something called a trim tab...it's a longer portion of the trailing edge of the main rotor blade. Without that minute tab sticking out, the helicopter wouldn't be able to fly right. And also the tail rotor pylon has a slight bent in the rear fairing. I didn't know what it was for but when I went to school, I learned that the slight degree bent will help keep the helicopter flying straight in case of loss of tail rotor torque...without that unuseful looking bent, it would spin like a top smile.gif So little things make a big difference...like that hood spoiler wink.gif

cool thanks for the part number.

if its cheap and comes prepainted then ill get it, if not then **** it! smile.gif

it does make a lot of sense tho. the gt4 hood is a lot lighter then the stock gt hood. i could see how it could use some extra support. one of my friends calims that the gt4 hood is also mostly made of plastic (or at least the bottom of the hood). i kind of think that he may be partly right because the hood is so light.

And because of that factor, when 96 Turbo ST send it to me, the shippers dropped the box and it came with a 30 degree bent in the front and the two sharp corners in the back bent at almost 90 degrees. frown.gif

Is it repairable, Ray? It's been a while since they shipped it so it's useless trying to claim insurance so late. frown.gif

Do you have a picture of the damage? My hood got damaged also during shipping, but only on one corner. The body shop just bent it back. It was so minor that it was repairable. Now in your case, it depends on how serious the damage is. I hope that it was insured, cuz if it was, the shipping company should be responsible... but you needed to make the claim when you picked it up.
