No your check engine light won't go on... but I wouldn't recommend gutting your cat. For starters, you won't gain anything out of it (unless you're boosting of course). If you really want to be free flowing, just go down to the muffler shop and ask them to make you a test pipe. They most likely won't install it since it's illegal to remove the cat, but I'm sure they won't have any problems making one for you.

yes, unless u live in a place that isnt very strict.. my toyota dealer gutted my car for me so boost would be more responsive.. they also killed my EGR system but kept the visuals, that put the sticker on my window!! biggrin.gif but it actually gut it, just take it off, long screwdriver or metal rod of some type and hammer it through the cat. knock all the honey comb out and reinstall.. all better, note: exhaust will be louder

Like I said in my previous post, NO... unless you have a high-end motor or boosting... Trust me... I've done it... ran the track before and after I gutted... and ran the same times on the 1/4 mile.

But if you wanna do it anyways (and regret it later like I did), just take a power drill to it. It'll take you 3 to 5 minutes to gut it out...

Technically, one can use any high flow cat. If the cat is too long or short, just take the cat to a muffler shop and have them reweld the flanges... So if the Corolla is to long or short... it doesn't matter... it can still be used. wink.gif

I heard there is no reason to gut the cat unless your boosting, and even so if your boosting past about the 400hp mark. No need to gut the cat at all, just buy a high flow one, and get custom exhaust all the way from the down pipe back and have them pop that in there.
