____________

Just thought i's bump this thread up and put my question in here, since this seems to be the most relevant place.

Im in the market for an LSD.

Looking around I have found a couple MRS helical LSD's on a few forums.

But before I commit to it I wanted to know if they are 1.5 way, and what kind of improvement (if any) would I be seeing from an oem non aggressive LSD in my lightly tuned 5S.

Totally and completely worth it. I would say my LSD has made the biggest impact in my handling by far.

Yea I have plans for it in the future, and I share the sentiments when it comes to the funding of such.

I would love to go the e153 route, I just want the stability of being able to autozone my axles!

In an effort to find possible alternatives to the Oem MR2 lsd, would the M Factory LSD be a good alternative?

also the Quaife LSD, seems to have better reviews than the M Factory

If I buy this beams for my racecar here in a few weeks, we might weld the diffs in the s54 trannys we have....... MEANING that the LSD s54 would be "for sale" for the right price. Just to get this out there now...

would I be able to get just the LSD itself out of the trans?

your timeline seems to be matching up with mine on when I planned on buying an LSD

don't know... Haven't even cracked open diff tranny's we have yet.

But I see what you're saying. If the lsd could come out it could be shipped.
Otherwise you'd likely have to come and get it lol

Again this is tentative. We may find that we won't be buying the beams until next season... idk. But what were you looking to spend on one of those aft. mkt. lsd's?

I am still keeping my eyes open on the other forums just in case your engine gets pushed of to next year.

If I really really wanted one right now, id be looking at around $1k.
On newcelcia.org there have been a few sold recently for around 5-600.
I want to stick with either a TRD or Toyota OEM.

Since noone else has asked the question; Why do you think you need limited slip?

The 5s doesnt have enough torque for 1 tire let alone both of them. It just seems like a lot of expense considering you probably dont have enough power to even feel a noticable improvement.

the beams doesnt have that much more torque than the 5s. And I am cam'd which is I believe is 25+ small but should be noticeable, especially when (if) I race

Even the 7A needs limited slip. Drive a FWD car with it and you'll see why. Give the car some gas through a corner, inside wheel spins, car goes wide. Limited slip has been by far the biggest improvement in handling that I've ever felt out of a Celica.

Not with limited slip I havent. Ive driven loads of RWD with lsd though. I swear the eaton positrac I installed in my '64 pickup is terrible for curves though. Now instead of roasting one tire it roasts both and whips wildly back and forth

Id think the nice thing on a fwd would be having torque steering thats straight forward instead of trying to rip the wheel left.

That, and the car pulls itself through corners rather than the inside tire having no grip and understeer galore. Edy, if we were closer I'd have you drive my car. I'm not saying a '95 Camry needs LSD but it made (in my opinion) a 100% improvement in how the car gets itself through a corner. The factory LSD in the S54 is great for everyday driving. I'm not sure how the TRD LSD or any of the Quaife/KAAZ LSD's are, if they might be too aggressive for DD duties. I know Mike could use a more aggressive style of LSD than I have, since our car is 90% DD with occasional fun and his car sees autocross days.

my car probably wont be a DD anymore so that might be grounds for me to get a slight more aggressive lsd. I would like to avoid clutch type brands though

doing some more research I am not 100% positive if the part I was looking at and got quoted on was the LSD for me.
I did quick part # check (4130120230)
and a price of $1300 came up. Which is quite a jump from the $600 I was quoted at toyota

Don't suppose these S54 and E153 LSDs are any use to an E154F/GT4 to give some front traction?

unfortunately no. The e154f differential has a shaft extending into the center housing to send power to the rear wheels. IIRC there was a group buy on gt4oc to get a quaife ATB LSD made that featured that shaft. Unless you can get your hands on one of those you're out of luck

I swear I just saw a LSD for sale on MR2OC with E154F gearing up for sale

Still looking and looking. All I am finding is E153 lsd's

still scouring the web. I feel like I am getting closer.

Here is one option if I am really really desperate.
I was directed to this site where they have a JDM Toyota LSD for $1300 (Which is a great deal cheaper than the $1700 toyota had quoted me)

http://shop.totperformance.com/JDM-TOYOTA-...TOY-JDM-LSD.htm

http://www.newcelica.org/forums/showthread.php?p=4577878
proper procedure for installing a diff into a S54?
I cannot find any other thread that shows an install of a lsd into a similar trans

He was replacing also 4th and 5th gear as well as installing the lsd. Is it necessary to remove gears etc to access the diff?

Install on a E153 no pics
