I wanted to confirm that the water and oil pumps ARE NOT interchangeable.

are 5SFE and 3SGTE interchangeable?

Thanks,
Kevin

i believe they are. its the timing gear on the crank that must be specific to what cams you use. the water and oil gears are passive so you dont have to worry about them

I read on a sticky (I believe) that the Oil and Water pumps are not interchangeable... I am curious about the 5SFE parts though. I Think the water pump I replaced was a 5SFE one. I don't know what happened but either the seal was just bad or its something else...

any other information?

I know for a fact the water pump is interchangeable. I have the second gen water pump on my 3rd gen, runs just fine

Hi,

a gen2 oil pump have the pressure relive valve in her, which the gen.3 doesn't have becouse it is in the oil pan nr.1, the pump gears are also different
the gen.3 pump runs faster
here you can see some pictures

http://www.gtfours.co.uk/

there are two version of the water pump available, a plastic impeller one with a better design and a stainless one

the plasic one is just used on gen.3 GTE's, gen.2, 4 and even the gen.3 GE uses the less powerfull stainless one
the pump housing is also specific to the plastic one

more about to built a uprated pump in the near future in this thread, if you are interested in this

I do second this, but it's been a while since I changed my waterpump. I vaguely remember having to buy the 2nd gen water pump and use half of it with the other half of the 3rd gen water pump. Something like that. Can someone else confirm or deny?
