I got into an accident tonight as I was on my way to have dinner. an older man in his 60's with his wife in a buick pulled out from a lot as i was approaching from the right-most lane. it was dark and the road conditions were very slippery. he claims to not have seen me coming. as he entered my lane, i quickly held my hand on the horn while i steer with the other towards the left to get around him. it was impossible to stop based on the slippery road conditions. he continued to move forwards trying to cross the road and then my car hit his from the side. he was lucky the impact was away from the driver side door and hit the front fender/wheel. right after the collision, i was 3 lanes over and across the median and stopped into oncoming traffic. his car ended up crossing the median and crossing the 3 oncoming lanes and rolled or slid into the entrance of another parking lot on the other side. i'm glad the accident didn't involve another car from the oncoming direction and the man ended up with just a bloody scar on his nose and claiming he & his wife are ok (he must have turned his head towards me right before impact and his head smacked the side window). the car that was right behind him saw the whole thing and is an acquaintance of his as they were leaving together in separate cars.

my car took most of the damage. the seatbelt, airbag, and the car's crumple zone really helped absorb the impact big time. i might have punched myself in the face as i was honking on the horn when the airbags deployed. surprisingly, i feel totally fine now but the paramedics say that pain might kick in afterward. anyway i took a few pics of the carnage just before leaving. the car will likely be written off and scrapped since i'm pretty sure the damage is beyond repair. it really is a sad day to start the new year. i'm really gonna miss it =(

UPDATE: FEB 9 2012

The insurance company is putting the car up for auction as parts-only. Will probably sell for around $500.

UPDATE: FEB 16 2012

The car got sold yesterday for $425 frown.gif

i took everything i needed out including some spare parts i've been wanting to put on but i forgot to pull out the rear hatch tray and the euro front rubber mats. it never crossed my mind but i'll have another chance to pull those out at the impound lot. when i do i'll start a FS thread.

i still haven't decided what car to get next. i'm really looking forward to the fr-s or brz but that won't be for another year or so. i guess it really comes down to how much the insurance company will give for the car, and then go from there. my dad has a 5spd is300 on a set of winter tires just sitting in the garage so i'll probably be driving that in the meantime.

Wow! Glad you are okay, that looks like a tough wreck.

Do I ever know the pain! Just settled on mine this morning with the insurance, but your car is much much more of a loss. GL with the insurance battle my friend, get every penny for what they did!

Gerald, I'm happy to see you're ok (all things considered) but saddened at the loss of your car; it was one of my favorite 3L2's by far.

Good luck with your next car and do swing in from time to time to keep in touch.

That sucks man, what a waste of projectors and other JDM goodness. The celica gave up its life to keep you safe; glad to hear you're ok. I hope your insurance pays you what the car is really worth, and good luck on your next vehicle.

Man, I'm so glad you're ok, that's the biggest thing. It's such a shame to see your car end up like this though, it really is. I'm really sorry to hear about your misfortune, but you've got your health still, and hopefully insurance will help set you on a new and better path with your car endeavors.

oh no... not this car. Your celi is one of those I imagine when thinking about 6gc.net community. I remember this car for years around and I know how much effort you put into it. This is really not a good beginning of this stupid year frown.gif

man oh man... this year is not treating the cells good at all. Just glad you're ok. It looked pretty bad.

So sad about your loss though. One of the best looking 6gc's on this site. I looked up your how-to idk how many times. and still super jealous of every mod you have on your car.

hope no pain comes back to hit you anytime soon. frown.gif

Oh man. I'm really sorry to hear about your accident. And I'm sorry about your Celica as well. Your car was one of my favorites in this community since I joined back in 2005 (under username ExSane). Good luck with the next vehicle you get. I've had many, funny I how reverted back to my 6gc.

You think you miss the 6gc now, just wait until you drive the IS 300 for a month. They just can't come close to matching the Celica when it comes to the feel of the car. Your car took quite a hit. I truly hope no pain sets in later.

Seeing this makes me sick frown.gif

I do notice our celicas can take some hard hits, and the occupants seem to walk away in pretty good shape. Glad you are alright.

it was the other guy who's at fault. he drove into my lane and he didn't see me coming. i understand that accidents happen and it turns out that this was one accident that i couldn't get away from (out of the millions that i've avoided, thanks to the ol' celica's handling capabilities biggrin.gif) . if it had happened in the summer, i could've easily dodged it. a lot of people here are terrible drivers so this accident was bound to happen. although i totally jinxed myself and told everyone i'd keep the car as my daily at least until i graduated, after then i'd probably get something newer. and i just got my final grades the day before the accident... rolleyes.gif

i would like to get another celica but it would have to be absolutely mint and like-new condition, otherwise i want to move on to something newer/better. i get really anal when it comes to the slightest imperfections in the mechanical or cosmetic condition of my car. there's a gt-four that i've had my eye on since 2009 and hasn't sold because of the steep asking price. it's in showroom-like quality with less than 25k miles on the clock, absolutely stock, 3L2, and comes with all the factory options which is rare in a WRC. that would be the only 6gc i would get.

and yeah, things could have been worse had i been in a neon or civic. lol. tongue.gif
