A few days ago I realized there was a puddle of coolant under my car so I opened the hood to investigate. There was coolant on the top edge of the radiator and towards the bottom of the car. I took the car
for a spin to figure out where the leak is then I noticed a pin sized hole steam was coming out of on the top plastic part of the radiator...but there is no way all that coolant could come from that little hole. I took a hole and washed all the coolant off the radiator then waited for my car to warm up. Steam smelling like coolant seemed to be coming from throughout the radiator and the little whole. I am trying to figure out if I should just put of of those radiator fix it things in there or if I need to replace the entire radiator. Another bizzare thing happened my car took a good 30 seconds to start. Usually it starts up right away. I hope it has nothing to do with the head gasket. The car has about 197k everything is original. Any ideas? |

well if its overheating, it will kill your headgasket. but if the radiator is leaking, then you need to repair or replace.

And i would suggest a replace since the radiator is probably old now and doesn't have much life left in it.

What would be a good way to test the fans? I noticed the car warmed up all the way to the middle and the fans didnt come on.

Now, if the car is passed the middle mark and the fans do not turn on.. you can assume there is something wrong with the fans right?

So the fan was not coming on even when the engine was over heating so I removed the plug to the cooling fan switch sensor and the fan turned on. I assumed the sensor was bad and replaced it with a new one at autozone, but when I plugged it back in the fan still did not turn on until I disconected the plug again. Now, I am unsure what is causing the car to over heat...the pine size hole on top of the radiator or the fan

I hope its not a bad HG. I dont have the pressure meter to do a compression test and I cant tell if the coolant has oil in it because its that red stuff toyota uses.

if you pull the spark plugs and they are wet it could be a sign...also sweet smelling smoke from tail pipe, or else autozone should be able to do it if they arent complete retards

This thread is ridiculous. First replace your rad. Then see what happens with the heat. You should be able to turn the fans on with the ac. Is your car missing? If so think about a headgasket. If not, Do the rad.
