So I'm going to be wiring up my fogs soon and what I'm planning to do is just reroute the wires to the sidemarker and send those straight to the fog lights and to splice in the sidemarkers to the turn signal's wires so they'll both blink.
Basically what I'm worried about is: Is this feasible? Will I be blowing fuses? Any input is appreciated. This post has been edited by HectortheRican: Aug 8, 2012 - 6:43 PM -------------------- taking too long to mod since '09

Yea it MAY work, but youll run the risk of blowing the fuse, or worst melting the fuse box(ask me how I know). Do it right. Use a relay so it gets constant 12v when on but wont stay on if the headlights are off. I just used a spare toyota one I had and used connectors. Works perfectly.

@suprakid : sop in the case of fogs ANY 12v toyota relay should work for wiring?

I'm confused. You're going to use your tiny low power wires from the sidemarkers for your fog lights? I would personally run new wires from the fuse box but that's just me. Seems like going from a 4 watt bulb to a 55 watt bulb on the same wire runs the risk of melting wires.

I just don't know a whole lot about wiring, so I thought I'd ask before doing something that could potentially be extremely stupid. Oh, ok. I thought I just misunderstood something and I don't want to see you burn your car down.

People have wired them to the side markers before, one of my parts cars was like that and everything was fine.
Just buy a wiring harness from autozone and it tells you exactly how to wire it up. Np relays needed |

the sidemarkers electrical is only meant to run those 194 dinky bulbs so its made to match that minor requirement, running fog lights are 55watts thats a very big difference for that electrical to handle. it may work but for how long and what problems will it cause for you later. its very simple to just run your own wiring. Electrical is very expensive or hard to troubleshoot, I would avoid what you plan to do. electrical is built specifically to handle certain things thats why there is amperage, wattage, wire gauges, relays, fuses, breakers, etc.......you can't just do anything you want.

55 watt is only 4.5 amps. If you wire it into a 12+ fuse that supports 10A++ you should be fine.

you might as well just run your own independant wiring. its really really simple, at least it will be dedicated, separated.

I'm thinking about doing the same thing. I found a diagram online, and modified to what I'd want. Using the side markers instead of a toggle switch. Does this look kosher? I want to make sure I do this safely.

So I found a diagram to wire my fog lights independently and it'll work, but there's one part that is really confusing me.
From the switch, there's an in-line 2A glass fuse, but I have no idea what it's telling me to connect the other end to. That's my question. Maybe someone else can understand that part of the diagram. I've "circled" the area of the diagram that I'm referring to. ![]() -------------------- taking too long to mod since '09

See, that makes sense, and I'd want to make it to where the fogs would toggle off when the high beams came on, so would I just splice that wire to one of the power wires going to a high beam? -------------------- taking too long to mod since '09

Would you use that diagram to wire up a hid kit to the fogs?

I doubt it actually goes to a power wire cause its only a 2amp fuse. The way it says 56B and 56A makes me feel like its talking about a pin in the lighting harness...but see I've never looked at it so I'm not sure. If it wasn't raining like all hell out I'd go look at it and try to figure out for you. Let me see if I can find a diagram for our lighting harness and I'll get back to you.

Instead of running that 2A connection to the low beam (I'm assuming that if I do that, the low beams will turn off when the fogs come on) could I just connect that 2A connection to the pos terminal on the battery? That way it's still getting 12V power and the fogs won't turn off the low beams. -------------------- taking too long to mod since '09
