I've desided to do a build on a 5S-FE out of curiousity as to how much power I can get out if it ... right now the plans are for an N/A build. I was having trouble finding cams for the engine and upon search the forum, it seems that Webcams are basically my old choice. Is this correct? Do I really have to pay over $700 for a set of cams? I'm so used to Honda's ... do you have any idea what kind of cams I can buy with $700+ for a B-series Honda? Is this my only option for cams?

For that money, you can buy a spare set of cams from a junk 5S and sent them out to Crower Cams or any other reputable company and they'll do a basic regrind for you, equivalent to the Webcams grind. When I was in touch with Crower, they quoted me $11/lobe for a regrind. There has also been a lot of talk about Colt Cams lately, though I didn't keep up with that thread to see the final results.

Your best bet is a regrind, find another spare set of cams and get it done - webcams, colt cams, i know theres a lot more companies that do it.

just remember a re-grind will require shimming and i highly highly suggest upgrading to 1ZZ buckets.

11 a lobe? How much in total with labor? Id take my webcams out and swap them with the Crower's if it was cheaper

That was it- $11 a lobe plus shipping both ways. That's $176 before shipping. That quote is also from two years ago, prices could have changed.

If anyone finds out more details, post it.

Tigawoods: I'll buy your Webcams off your if you get Crower cams biggrin.gif ... I don't really want to shim either. But I may have to ...

I might just go with the regrinds, I never used them though. I always built Honda's; there's no shortage for people that make cams for Honda's. But I guess it would be more advantageous to just get a used head and intake manifold, give them a good P&P, angled valve job, mil the head and go all out with cams ... well not ALL out, I want to keep it daily drivable.

Hey man, I went with colt cams and got 30 whp gain with a dyno tune and only spent $585 for my cams ($100 for a used set of 5sfe and $485 from colt cams for the grind). The helper shims were a perfect fit too and were included from colt cams in the deal. I've put over 4,000 miles on my car since the cam install and I love it. Definitely worth the money. PM me if you need info.
