Thats all stock not aftermarket, those damn cars are considerably faster then my mr2 turbo, most of that is available for your cars, like the strut tower bars, headers, turbo kits and so on, just look around and get out the cheque book. |

SXT? Those are non-turbo, and very slow. The new SRT-4's are only at 215HP, not much more than your every-day every-where eclipse GS-T/X.

I've heard that they're very under-rated though. Fortunate for SRT-4 owners, unfortunate for everyone else. ![]() -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

And they run 5.4 sec 0-60. 148mph. About 225 at the wheels stock. There are problems...
- The engines are rumored to b abused by the 16-18 variable psi of boost they shove thru it. It has been rumored that engine problems start at 50k miles. - Also, you need to get the polyurethane motor mount upgrade. This will cost a little bit of money, but it's the only way to be bale to run the fast runs that they did. EDIT On the good side though, they are really quick and fast. dodge is one of the few manufacturers that are notorious for underrating their powerplants.

US cars in general have a history of doing that... The SRT is a mean maching. The 04 models have a LSD which makes them even more potent.

i personally believe since companies are risking with more psi through their engines such as the evo is rated at 19psi and whatever u said the dodge was up to,
but on the other side, dodge does have daimler on there side now |

in 2003 they were underrated becuase they gave out HP specs with a Heat soaked intercooler which is why everyone was getting about 220 - 230 HP... NOW the 2004 has a boost controller designed to give you 230 HP all of the time regardless of heatsoak.... SICK
and that motor is bullet proof - at least thats what i read... -------------------- -Mike

idk about bullet proof i saw a cut away version of the srt4 engine at the LA auto show the rods were only about 2/3 the thickness of the 3sgte rods i have seen almost all auto companies underrate their perfomance/sports cars in japan the supra RZ(twin turbo version) is rated at 289 crank hp, it is identical to the usdm 320hp supra TT but with a more agressive ecu and higher octane gas and even the usdm supra tt is underrated, with out underrating, sales of these performance/sports cars would suffer due to EVEN HIGHER insurance rates -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition

under-rating? all if not most of the car companies do an engine brake dyno at the flywheel. not at the wheels, which is y sport compact car and other magazines dyno celicas gts at 150ish at the wheels and the wrx at a low 164hp at the wheels, so if a company says a car has 200hp, most likely if u put it on a wheel dyno, you will have about 180hp on a average. so if a company says 215 and u happen to get 230 at a dyno, i would be more than happy mazda has a recal because of their horsepower ratings in the miata and the rx8 were off by almost 30hp, kinda like false advertising |

Its worse than that for Mazda - they actually agreed to buy back RX8s from people who were so upset that there car had significantly less than advertised power ratings! -------------------- -Mike

lol, i did have a hard time believing that the rx8 engine made nearly as much power as the 13b(?) twin turbo -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition

The RX8's were originally posted as 250hp, at the crank...but this was a mistake cuz those were the J-Spec cars. They soon after released 238 as the official crank HP numbers. There hasn't been a report of a 6Speed RX8 getting less than 215 at the crank yet. Which would make it 23 or less, so 30 is a bit over. The numbers people were pissed is the wheel horsepower numbers in only getting 170-190. And so people got mad and Mazda said they'd buy the RX8's back. That car is literally one of the finest machines in a while. It's perfect weight ratio makes that thing ultimate in handling. The RX8 was made for being able to do the twisties really fast...and after slowing down a bit in a corner then being able to rev it up really quick and get back to speed with guzzling too much oil and gas like the RX7 with the 13B did.
And the engines aren't very durable. I ca't imagine what they'll be like with no more variable boost and thne people controlling the boost level themselves. And last, wow a 5k dealer markup? My dealer had a price of $19,495 and then the $500 delivery charge, so that made it 19,995. No extra markup, except the regular ones you get when buying any brand new car such as license and tax. -------------------- 95 Toyota Celica GT

I dont know a lot about american cars because there aren't any in my country. But, The AWD 2000cc GT4 with 1993-94 technology, running at 14psi boost, making 255 bhp stock (JDM) with the best engine that ever came out of a factory (3S - GTE) is just about the best thing I have ever saw. The reason i mention the 1993-94 technology is to point out that the neon has 2004 technology and those late model Evos and Subs are also late model.
For once more, my complaint/question is: Why Toyota doesn't invest and make sport cars? That excuse that there is no market is bull. There seem to be a market for the Neons, Subs and Evos. This post has been edited by neoklis: Jan 10, 2004 - 4:19 AM |

The SRT-4 has the PT Cruiser Turbo engine in it. 215hp I think. Hard to believe that it can haul so much a$$ for only 215. Wonder how long they actually last though. We stupid americans make em powerful, yet fragile.
