(My buddy's car) the car is acting like the clutch isn't engaged. We press it but nothing happens. Never had a manual car of my own so no idea
I think it's the master cylinder because of a old thread I read err where jim(or manny I think) was talking about If the slave comes out when clutch pedal depressed and goes back in slowly it's the slave; if it doesn't move it's the master clutch cylinder. But then I don't think so cuz the pedal wasn't getting stuck before ever. It was workin fine before. Suddenly we were havin problem putting it in third, then we pulled over and shut it off, then realized the car wouldn't detect the clutch pedal being pressedbasically. I put it in gear, depressed the pedal and try to push it and the car doesn't move like its in gear(it's suppose to so that but not with the clutch pressed u know) the pedal itself feels wierd like it would press in really easily without resistance and also when we let go its gonna push back out fast http://i855.photobucket.com/albums/ab119/m...2A872E9DCBB.mp4 Is there any fluid I need to check? Cables are fine, they're moving and in good condition (I dot see any cable move when clutch pedal is depressed. They move only when the gear lever is moved. That's normal rite?
I put some brake fluid dot 3 in the master cylinder thing and found this in there floating. What's this? Is it suppose to be there? ![]() ![]() Found some fluid around here looked like new engine oil but not sure the car shouldn't have clean oil it has about 1900 miles from the last oil change ![]() Also this slave cylinder doesn't move at all when clutch pedal is depressed. (Hope on looking at the rite thing) ![]() Any help appreciated . I'm doing all this with the car turned off do I have to start it? -------------------- For Sale:OEM tail lights - make offer

Your hydralic system is leaking somewhere, by the pictures it looks like your slave is blown. There should not be any fluid types around that area. If there are, it is going to be the clutch system fluid. If your trannie was leaking, it would be on the underside where the axles, or fill, drain plugs are.
That item floating in the master res doesn't look familiar to me..kind of odd. You need to find that leak, and replace it. The system itself isn't that intricate. There is the master, 4 hard lines, 1 soft line, and slave cylinder. I would start with the slave, and work my way up to the master repairing any leaks. Try to avoid tinkering with the hard lines unless you know it is leaking from there. Them being old, often are a pain to work on, and prone to break. if your master or slave is old, just replace both. you'll get better pressure and not have to worry about either one for a lil bit.

Ordered slave from autozone for 18$ master was 62$ ill start with slave go from there. your honestly better off getting them right from toyota as it will be a better quality part. ive heard people buying autozone or advanced autos slaves and masters and they go bad in about 3 months (mainly master) .. it may have been helped along by a heavier pressure plate but i would still recommend one from toyota. -------------------- st205 powered ss3 coupe

But they have 1 year warranty, at least that's how it was at orielly auto parts. I got a new master and it crapped out a few months later. I brought it in and didn't even ask me what/or why I was wanting them to replace it for me. OEM is $110 if your order it from conicelli toyota. I'd advise you go with any slave from your local auto store and do not pay more than $20 including tax... -------------------- Group buy to replicate Narrow E series transaxle parts

Replaced the slave at first wasn't working and then I realize my dumb self didn't bleed it,
After few attempts of pump and release the slave started working with a lot of air in there. Haha Anyways it works now Thanks guys for all the help (I wonder if all that was just air and the original slave) -------------------- For Sale:OEM tail lights - make offer

Yay, thank goodness it was a $20 slave cylinder and not a $200 clutch that requires removing the trans.
+1 for simple fixes |

I was supposed to do a write up on the slave replacement but i ended up just doing it and not taking pics. But i dont think it really needs a how to, its pretty explanatory. for some, the master may be a bit more work. I'm glad in your case it worked out. For people I help, i usually replace both cus I dont want them coming back and me having to do the job twice in fairly short time, especially if their slave and master is both old. For me I just changed my slave only.

It was pretty easy, I'm not a very confident person, I usually know enough about mechanics but I ALWAYs need someone else's oppinion and thought I read ur how to bleed write up and that helped me a lot. The slave was pretty easy, of I could donor I don't see why anyone else would have an issue -------------------- For Sale:OEM tail lights - make offer

I'm not a very confident person, dude you better sac up if you want to make it in the real world. In my industry, I make decisions that effect billion dollar airplanes. All you need is more experience, keep tinkering with the car, learn more about the mechanics of how the car sub-systems work. now that you have changes a slave, you can do it again easily and in less time. the same will come for other stuff. do research on what you are about to do, check the stickies, check other car forums. I have many many guides written on newcelica.org that caters to the 7th gen. there will be alot of similarities. good luck! -------------------- 2001 Celica GT-S Turbo

Now you just need experience with the other 4,999 parts on cars and you will feel right at home under the hood of a pinto or a porsche and everything in between. Also remember that if something is already broken then the worst you can do is break it even more. Ive put something back together only to have to take it all back apart to do it the right way more times then I care to remember, but everytime I learned something new and was just a little bit better at it the next time. |
