ohhhhhhhhhh yess! i'm loving her to death already!

picked her up for a pretty great price IMO...

she has 145k miles. 5 speed. GT. no rust anywhere,
and i didn't even notice until today but she has the Ghost emblems i believe they're called... Black, instead of silver or gold...

only issues with her that i have to adress within the next couple days is the windows seem shaky going up and down, and the
rear driver side window doesn't like to go up all the time.... i had to wiggle the button until it would go up but it finally did!

and the radio is stock and trash along with the front speakers , they don't even work haha.

Sweet! I bought a '97 black 'vert in October. My only problem is I can't stop driving it.

I check my carpets after each heavy rain, and haven't found any water in the the rear quarter panels, or under the spare. I tend to be OCD-ish about that sort of thing, but so far it's been fine. Maybe the gasket around the trunk lid is allowing water to leak in.

not much new news, other than the turn signals and sidemarkers are tinted black now.









but bad news is, i have the dash torn apart because i was replacing the stock stereo with my double din kenwood touch screen and i bought the harness i was told i needed from my car audio shop in town, and low and behold it does not match up to the single white conector that came out of the stock player.

never had to deal with this in a 4 speaker set up. guessing it has to do with the amp and connectors. its all sorts of ****ed up. hating life at the moment haha.

I installed a Pioneer touchscreen HU in my '97, and used the RCA plug harness that Crutchfield supplied. I had to make about 5 wire splices after plugging the RCA's into the back of the HU, and that made life much easier. I ran the HU through the stock amplifier BTW. That harness is $10, but I'm sure there are shipping costs of a few bucks.

P.S. After reading nightmare stories about using the stock Celica amp, I was pleasantly surprised that I never had to touch the thing with the Crutchfield harness. Just wire the harness to the HU (and plug in RCA cables), and then plug adapter into the single white stock harness. Very Quick and Easy!

well good news, i took back the old harness and luckily enough they had the amp integration harness in stock!
i talked over a few options with him since my front 6.5s and tweets are blown,
and i decided on putting in 8" woofers in the doors, new tweets, and new 6.5s in the back , and my two 10s in the trunk.
going to have the 8s running off of a 300 watt amp, and the tens running off the 800 watt amp i have,
and the tweets and 6.5s will be running off the factory amp.

i can't wait to take that project on because i will be changing out the nasty tan carpet with new black carpet as well...
but in the mean time here are some new pictures! (;

where are u getting the carpet. do not, i repeat, do not buy an aftermarket carpet, it does not fit, i wasted 300 usd there, and wasted 100 more buying a used one from a coupe...

i ended up forking 500 for a new one, and it was the last one from toyota

Now this is what scares me about my '97 vert. Key parts that aren't available, or over-priced. I had to stop at a store last weekend, and my wife went into a pizza place. I came back, and she had a sloppy slice of pizza and a HUGE soda in the cup holder! I dumped half the soda out, and put a paper towel under the cup. My carpet is in primo condition, and I'd like to keep it that way.

I wonder if you can have custom carpets done. I've seen older/rarer cars restored, so there must be hope. Either that, or I'll grab one of the zillion Miatas I've been looking at.

P.S. Nice stereo! I have to run a wire from the adapter to the car's plug to dim my screen at night. Crutchfield sent me the wiring diagram, and I just have to pulled it out one last time.....

That's what I keep telling my wife. We've been debating whether to sell the Celica, and buying a Miata. I'm 6'1", and the newer Miatas fit me, but the goofy grill is too much. I have the Celica on CL, and have several people interested. I just like the backseat, and I put a lot of TLC in the car already.

Since we're on the topic of '97 verts, could one of you guys tell me if your fog lights come on with just the parking lights on? Mine only come on when the headlights (low beam) are turned on, and go back off when the brights are switched on. The manual says they should come on when the "tail lights" are turned on, but you know manuals....

I have the same issue with my '99. I think the wet trunk might be connected to water in the "hammock" that the roof folds into. The leak in mine is probably around my rear window. some verts have a drain line at the bottom of the hammock, but not mine. let me know what happens with yours.

the verts have a draining system that with time it becomes clogged, need to be cleaned..

wow, it looks in very good condition man! enjoy it . before I bought my 1997 hatchback gt I was looking at a mint red convertible but red drags way too much unwanted attention, so I got the white hatchback and Im very happy with it, but the convertible I bet its way more fun in summer and women must love it, maybe some day Ill get the vert too.

Women comment on my '97 convertible constantly. Men do as well, but every women has something nice to say. I usually ask the same women what they think of the Miata, and they almost always say it's gay. The 1999-2008 Miatas look good to me, but chicks just ain't feeling it. I see plenty of Miatas, and despite their reputation as a girl's car, I've never seen one driven by a girl...???

My '97 vert is identical to Novak's, except I don't have a spoiler. Black is a very good color for that car, but the best I've seen was a grey model.

well, badish news. i knew my thermostat wasn't working right because my car hardly ever gets hot. and the air is always luke warm, but i opened the radiator cap and i can't see any fluid , but i do see what seems to be rusty water gunk. . . so the game plan is to remove the radiator and thermostat from my parts car, and install them on my vert. theres no way i'm buying new when they only have 300 miles on them lol.

and if i have enough time and feel up to it tomorrow i may go ahead and cut off the exhaust from the flex pipe back of my parts car and have it welded onto my vert as well considering its only 6 months old and is 2.25 exhaust.

i shall post some pics in the morning
