As I always say, 1 tig weld is cheaper than a silicon coupler and 2 hose clamps. people are always gonna DIY their pipework i guess, then realise after they could have had it done properly in the first place and have a beautiful custom engine bay, rather than a dinky backyard look

I believe welding can come across intimidating to some, where turning a philips or flat head driver is less of a scare.

I was taught how to weld back in 10th grade, it's not hard at all. The main problem I foresee is with everything welded together, how much more of a pain it becomes to install and remove the ducting becomes. Unless you're doing a basic short ram you'll still need couplers anyway. I agree though, welded looks a lot more professional.

Guess I should have taken that instead of woodworking....

I'm sure anyone can learn to weld something, and it not prove difficult, but I'm sure there are many differences between trained/experienced welds compared to someone like me throwing money away trying to learn. Just like how I'm very critical of soldering jobs, and wire connections. I've seen a million solder joints by many engineers that I would be ashamed of it they were mine.

So all in all, I would resort to the simplicity of a coupling instead of saving a few pennies on the dollar to weld it together. Though it does look much more sexy.

Soldering, don't get me started on lead-free solder. tongue.gif

If you already have welding equipment might as well weld what you can. I think as long as you use black couplings it still looks good.
