now why exactly is it that you cant do the headlight conversion?

Mounting problems?
Hood modification?
wirring?

I dont see why you just CAN't do it.

well wiring and mounting wouldnt really be too big of a deal to do.. the main problem is that the supra front end isnt very tall compared to the celica.. at least the one I have isnt tall enuf so It would look kinda funny and my biggest complaint with the celica is that the front end tappers too much to a point. with this front end and the GT4 I think I will finally be able to fix this little prob.

Another concern is with the hood and the raised bubbles on the hood where the celica lights are.. I could cut into the hood some and try and flatten them out a little but they will still be there.. Thought about doing eyebrows on the supra headlights and have the bubble things follow onto the eyebrows then have em tapper off to flat. but I really dont wanna cut into the hood or modify the fenders any more than I already am going to have to, that and I have the invaderfront so why not use it to mate up this bumper with the car.

I am also not really sure how they would look on the car.. Photoshopped them one and It looked good but not great enuf to really make me wanna risk everything on something that yea would look okay but might not look better than stock headlights

Yea im a little torn over it.. I personally like it but at the same time I almost think that it will be too much on the front, but I also have to look at it from a performance aspect.. if you look up at the first few photos I posted you will see how my intercooler is set up and it blocks the path of the air to the radiator quite a bit.. now greated the intercooler is designed for air to flow through it but I am concerned about the radiator not getting enuf cool air and that is kind of a problem... the cool thing about the front airdam is that there are vents on the underside of it (will post a photo if I get a chance) and I might be able to open them and use that to cool the radiator but still undecided frown.gif

Just make sure you take all options into concideration....If you think the opening will contribute to the cooling of IC and radiator, by all means go ahead. But if you like to use the vents on the underside, then that would be fine also. Not having the opening wont make it look less attractive. In the end, it is still gonna be a very awesome ride.

I think the opening will look nice in the front bumper. By the way where did you get that bumper at? Is it from booststore.com? or somewhere else?

Its a Do-Luck front with Replica blitz sides and rear, but not sure how Im gonna do the back yet... I want to keep the Celica JDM's and I really like the rear bumper I have now but dont think it's gonna quite fit with the new front and sides.

heres what It looks like now

here is a really quick photoshop image of what Im kinda thinkin of doin with the back, granted some of the proportions are off but you get the idea

someone correct me if Im wrong here which I prolly am but if I pull this off I think I will be the 1st person to put a full supra kit on a 6gc.. know oreo has the rear and kuya has the sides and have seen supra fronts on 6gc's before but don't know of anyone with the full kit smile.gif

Edit: Removed photos in an attempt to get later photos to show up.. view later page for photos wink.gif

looks NIIIIICE as hell dude. if you want the center vent on the buymper and think its too much you could just make a smaller vent there. there is no regulation size or anything for somethin that custom, you know that. i personally like the center vent as u can see with my ride, but i took a lil different approach to it. that is gonna be one pimp ass celi. question, why is your gas filler cap on the passenger side of the car? mine is on the drivers side. only reason i can think of is that its the opposite side on a JDM celi, but i thought yours was USDM. its gonna look really good. biggrin.gif

edit: Okay its sunday around noon and Im gonna try and get the driverside sideskirt fitted today but it's like 20 degrees and theres hella wind so well see how much I get done today, will post photos biggrin.gif wish me luck! wink.gif

doge.. I did those exact same photoshops before biggrin.gif

well I froze my butt off for about five hours today taking a mold of the driverside skirt, etc... about cried cutting into the side of my car but got a little bit done on the side and some other stuff.. heres a few photos, I plan on working on it agian tomorrow for a few hours. I need to drop the skirt about 1/4 of an inch to make it fit a little more but I had busted my last grinding disc so I couldnt take it any lower today.

well heres the photos.. and thanx to my G/F for lettin me come up here so late so I could post these for you guys biggrin.gif

this is the side I was working on today.. you can see that it has to be lowered slightly to make the door open and to make the bodyline match with the front of the sideskirt

another one of the side I was working on.. this one shows why I have to graft in the celica front headlights and cant do a supra headlight conversion

will post more when I have something to show biggrin.gif

edit: removed photos view later page for current photos wink.gif

for just this project? I have 740 plus 6.99(plus tax) for cutting discs.
for the car total, counting the folding mirrors and supra turnsignals I just got: $34,480.24 (thats stuff I have reciepts for)

QUOTE

It would prolly be quicker and about the same cost for you to just get a replica, to make it work with the celica though you will need another aftermarket front to graft with.. I wouldnt recommend using the stock front as polyureathane doesnt like to mix with fiberglass very well

Regarding the Supra conversion:
I have seen somewhere on this forum a Supra conversion of a h/b and it looked really awfull. That was a crappy job though and i dont think its the one at auto trader seen in the previous post. You are doing an excellent job though. keep it up. I hope it turns out beatifully in the end.

Regarding the opening: Opening looks great. If in the end seems a bit too much, then you can use a same color mesh grill or something and it will turn out great.

Its times like this i wish i knew how to work with molds and fiberglass.

I'd be curious to see more pics of it though...it looks to me like it started as a Coupe too...

edit: guess I was a little hard on that guys car before... I personally don't care for it.. would look better w/o the black flame things but do have to give him a little respect for doing a project like that

Thanks man smile.gif as for doing fiberglass work its not too hard.. just need patiences and common sense and at least a basic plan.. if want some info about how I do stuff with fiberglass hit me up

I would love to learn to graft the bumpers together, I've been following this discussion in awe. Have you had troubles with the sides not lining up, or will you have to cut some of your fenders off? Keep posting man. It's gonna look awesome, and maybe you should put how you grafted the bumpers together when it comes to it. wink.gif

thanks man biggrin.gif

As for the sides not lining up... well there not perfect but not really that far off either, There is two main problems with it lining up. (1) The sideskirt isn't quite long enuf, at first I thought this to be only about a 1/2 inch difference but it is actually about 2 inches as you can see in the newest photos of the sideskirt (the open section on the back of the sideskirt, behind the scoop). (2) the angle of the scoop is slightly off.. the front top of the scoop section wants to point off away from the car instead of resting flush. A 3rd but minor problem was that on the front of the sideskirt it came over the door, If you compare the photo of just the sideskirt on either page 1 or 2 of this topic to the photos I posted last, you will see that there is some missing where the front of the door is, took about 3mins to fix this with a dremel diamond cutting disc.

here is how I am currently addressing the 1st two problems:

(1) as you can see from the photos I had to cut the sideskirt and move it over some, unseen in any of these photos is a mold I made prior to cutting of that section of the sideskirt. This way I will be able to make a 3 inch wide replica of that section that will be trimmed down and fitted into the open part and then glassed in and smoothed out so it appears like it never was cut. I orgionally thought to cut the sideskirt in the center, but decided against this as I wanted to keep the skirt as straight as possible and knew I would have to do alot of work already around the scoop section so figured I would do it there, I also wanted the scoop as far foward as possible.. closest to the front of the vehicle as I could, cutting behind the scoop allows me to do that, where cutting the center of the sideskirt would of moved the scoop farther back and in my opinion would of looked funny.

(2) This is the harder of the two problems I have, I have to break the fiber glass to make it work here by cutting the scoop in places so It can bend to the shape of the car and fit flush, if you look at the top photo of the last 3 I posted you will see one of these breaks. Once I can move the top section around to make it sit as flush as possible I will tape/adheare it down and do small amounts of fiberglass on the outside to keep it in place, once that has hardened I will fiberglass the inside (unseen) part of the sideskirt for strength and will smooth down the outside to make it look smooth and show no signs of breaks.

as for cutting of the fenders:

I wont have to cut the fenders for any of this but am really leaning towards cutting the front of the fenders when I install the front. I want my front to remain modular (can be easily removed). I want to hook fastners to the inside of the fenders so you can just reach up there and unhook the sides of the front bumper and will do simialar things under the hood so the front can be removed in a matter of mins in case I need to tow the car or get it up a really steep incline

as for the front grafting:

Ya I will post on that when it comes to that.. doing the sides first so I can get the hieght of everything.. the sides dont really have alot of room for moving up and down and I want to get the kit as close to the same height all around as possible, and the best way to do that is to do the sides 1st and then match up the front and rear as I have more room to play on them. I also think the sides are going to be the hardest of the whole projects so... I'll get them outta the way 1st biggrin.gif

got my JDM folding mirrors yesterday from Neipas09 biggrin.gif Thanks!

Newayz heres a couple pics of them.. Think they might be a little bigger than stock frown.gif but ohwell there gonna be kick a$$!.. want to try and hook them up so when I shut off the car they automatically fold in and when I start the car they automatically fold out.. and I want to still retain the push button function, will figure all that out when the time comes though.

I will install them sunday and work on the kit a little more and will let you guys know how that turns out but heres the pics for now

edit: removed photos so topic wouldn't be cluttered.. scroll down for photos

I didnt even know these things existed for the 6gc until I saw them for sale on here.. knew about the 5gc ones and almost got a set a year or so ago.. im glad now I didn't biggrin.gif

Edit: Getting really excited now.. after almost 2 years of this teardown of my car its finally all starting to come together biggrin.gif I should be getting my supra turnsignals either today or next week also

If your talking wiring.. well I don't have a clue how im gonna do it frown.gif .. was thinking about doing something with the power anntenna motor as it "powers" down after the car is turned off but not sure, right now it's kinda low on my priority list wink.gif

I am going to install the mirrors today.. at least mount them (not gonna deal with the wiring) I will post some photos along with my new supra turnsignals biggrin.gif

So the are electric folding mirrors? I am sure with a switch or relay attached to an ignition line & a 12v line you could power them as you turn the ignition off.

Btw I like the choice in kit.. and seeing some updated pics of your car. The sideskirts look pretty easy to do, but how are you going to do the top half of the front bumper? Are you going to chop a stock celi bumper up or what?
PS. You have to take some shots of the air vent hole in the rear 1/4 next time you take the clamps off biggrin.gif I just wanna see a big hole lol.

Thanks man biggrin.gif

Yea there the folding mirrors.. and there is a button already for them smile.gif as for the hole.. yea I am sure I will be taking a photo of it here sometime.. just haven't yet. don't really wanna think about that huge hole I had to make in the side of my car:( also.. while the sideskirts arnt "hard" to do there not exactly easy either.. the photos show only the basic work.. there has been alot more done inbetween steps and stuff not shown on the photos but over all there really just more of a pain than hard, and I hope to have them completed here in a few weeks with not too many problems.. but on the same hand I wouldnt recommend a project like this to anyone who has little or no experince with fiberglass etc

as for the front.. I am going to use a vis invader front for the top half.. the stock one is made of a polyureathane material and it doesnt take to fiber glass very well and would make this project almost pointless to try with the stock front.

Well heres a few more photos I took yesterday... gonna take some of the photos down from the earlier post on the folding mirrors to free up space.

here are two photos of the mirrors in both the out and folded position. there is also a pic of the supra turnsignals installed... well at least one of them.. dont have time to post all the pics right now but got both of the turn signals installed biggrin.gif

edit: removed photos for space... view later page for recent photos wink.gif

Here are new photos of what I got done yesterday on the celi...

Got the driver sideskirt about as far done as I can until the temp raises some and I can start fiberglassing, put small screws in it to hold the skirt so no more clamps smile.gif

Am going to start on the passanger side next weekend.. hopefully I can get that one to the same level as the driverside in just a day now that I know exactly what has to be done. Once both the sides are positioned then I can start workin on the front biggrin.gif <-----CAN'T WAIT biggrin.gif

Put one of my new seats in the car yesterday.... and I don't like it at all frown.gif But think one of my buddies is gonna pick them up them from me so thats cool... there a pic of it below.

Also did a little work on the rear... kinda just mounted it with clamps, sticks. etc to get kind of an idea - gonna play around with photoshop a little this week and if I come up with something good I will post it.

Newayz.. on with the pics

not really nediffernt but the side without the clamps

Part of the area I will need to fiberglass in... I will fill this with clay leavin it about 1/8 and inch too low and then fiberglass it in

Rear shot... I will prolly only end up using about half of this.. right now it looks really big and sticks out too far but you kinda get an idea of what it will look like

yea noticed that... don't know what the problem is frown.gif

edit: well I removed some photos from earlier posts and that seems to help.. maybe there is a limit or something... or imagestation is just that bad... who knows.

If you have a post in this topic with a quote with pics in it and you get a change please edit them out to save on space.. not sure if it actually works or not but did notice a difference when I did it with some photos - Thanks smile.gif

Edit x2: well checked with imagestation and there currently down.. did notice that they recently changed a few things so maybe they messed up and are resetting it or something.. who knows confused.gif

Hey, this has been stated way back in the conv. but I guess I don't see where the big prob with the supra light conv. is... I mean all you have to do is find out where to hold the light onto the frame, cut a hood out and just use your supra body kit, right? if not that, then what else??? rolleyes.gif

Its not an issue of how hard it will be... its more an issue of it lookin like a$$ or not.. if I do the supra headlights.. (which I would like to do) The front end is gonna look like crap unless I make the front taller, which I don't want to do.

I want a real boxy look which I wont get if I do the supra head lights.. It will be more of a tappered off front which is not going to fly with me.. I want every thing to come to the same height all the way around with in an inch.

also I don't want to modify the hood drastically which I would have to do.. If I ever have to part out the car, no one is gonna buy a GT4 hood modified for supra headlights

as for doing the conversion... yea it would be really easy to do.. just get the crossbar under the hood out of a supra where the headlights mount and weld it in and make the approriate cuts and mount up the kit and smooth everything out.. wouldn't take too long but it will go against the overall look I want and the Celica headlights are just fine with me smile.gif

confused.gif Aight, I know I should prob stop where i am and start a new discussion, but the real person I want to ask is you neverstop, b/c you just seem experienced in this field, I would like to try and do a supra conversion (no matter how much people will think it looks like crap and goes against the celica look) and I was wondering if I bought the front end strut to put the lights on, the necessary light, a supra hood, and a supra bumper, if it would be "easy" enough where I can do the work myself and not send it to a shop... I know how to weld, I can def. learn how to cut a hood (if I have to), and I can line a bumper up and make custom holes... will it be possible if I just buy a supra hood, if it will fit the car and bumper? I have about 1,200 to work with on cash and I would like to make this my own project

pbgcelica - I think that it is a good idea that you want to try and do a supra front end conversion, and good luck to you if you try but there are a few things I would like to point out to you.

The 1st problem you will have is trying to do this with only 1200$. I'm not saying that it can't be done for that price.. It can, but you might suffer a little on quality, and I would strongly recommend having a body shop do this for you if you don't have alot of experince with doing stuff like this.

The 2nd problem you will have is the hood, It is going to very hard and expensive to make the supra hood work on the celica. To do this correctly you will need the supra sideskirts... which brings us to problem number 3

#3... The distance between the back of the fender (where it meets the front of the door) and to the center of the wheel is quite a bit bigger than the same distance on the celica... what that means is you can't just put the fenders on the celica and have them line up (wheel is in the wrong place).. you will need to get fiberglass fenders and trim off at least 4-6 inches... that also means that the hood will need to be trimmed the same amount, which will be EXTREMLY hard to do.. even for a good body shop.

as you can see the supra front is going to be very expensive to pull off, not to mention almost impossible to do and have everything functional and look good.

so here are your alternatives:

1 - Get the whole supra front end and trim the fenders and hood down to allow the wheels to be in the correct place (keep in mind that this still might not fit). Take all these parts and graft them into one big piece... bassically a removeable front clip.

The prob with this is there is no garuntee that it will fit correctly and it will be a very heavy piece to remove to work on the motor, and it might not look very good or kinda funny at best.

2 - Get just the supra front bumper, headlights and support bar to mount the headlights on. This is going to be the easier of the two idea... it means dropping the supra hood idea... you could possible trim the sides of the supra hood to make it fit but I really dont think it would look good or match the body lines.

The prob with this idea is the same reason that I am not doing this to my car... for one I dont want to modify my hood... cutting it doesn't bug me but I dont want to try and flatten out the bulges from the celica headlights... you could make eyebrows and fiberglass on them to make the bulges smooth out a little down onto the headlights but that kinda defeats the purpose of doing the conversion. The second prob is how the front end will look... basically with the supra front it will look alot like a car with a full kit minus the front... which looks goofy.. if you think a car with just a front airdam looks bad try and image what it would look like the other way around biggrin.gif

You will also have to cut the fenders some.. I would recomnd getting fiberglass ones for the celica.

I will say I have seen the supra headlight conversion done before and it doesn't look the best.. I really believe that I could prolly do better than what I have seen but really don't think its worth it.

If you still want to do this I will help you... no I wont do it for you but I will point you in the right direction, but I spent well over a month debating weither or not to do this to my car.. calculated cost and weighed every little issue, pro, con etc and desided it would not be benifical to do this.. both in look, performance and money.. If I where you I would spend the money on projectors and be done with it.

But I wish the best of luck to you on this if you still want to try to pull it off and like I said above will help you out on it.

smile.gif

On another subject here is a photoshop image of one idea for the rear of the celica.. keep in mind that it is kinda ruff but you get the general idea.. please post opinions on what you guys think.. if you have a better idea feel free to photo shop your own things or just explain in your post.

well nevermind.. right after I uploaded the photo onto imagestation it shut down so they could fix it.. im gonna load in into my profile and the post it here.

thanks wink.gif

Well specifically Im not feeling the spoiler if you can sall it that tongue.gif The car will have a sporty supra look to it, maybe a wing like this:

http://www.6gc.net/index.php?action=parts&itu=43

or even wingless which always looks sleek, but its up too you, thats my thoughts on it.

I actually agree with that on the spoiler but it was an aniversary gift from my G/F so its kinda gotta stay frown.gif ... otherwise it would be spoilerless wink.gif

edit: I have given some thought to pickin up a two more trunk lids and leave one spoilerless and then get a differnt spoiler setup strictly for downforce for the track.. that way I got 3 different looks to interchage but who knows thats alot of cash to drop for something I don't really need to do wink.gif

the cold don't bug me too bad.. my G/F got me some warm a$$ carharts so they keep me nice and toasty all day long in the cold but it sucks at the same time cuz I can't do really ne major fiberglass right now untill it warms up some.

I wont paint it myself, prolly have a shop do it.. got a buddy that owns his own place so he's prolly the one to do it for me.

I think it will be pretty easy to get flush once I can fiberglass... right now there ruff only cuz I can't do more to them. All I really have to do is glass in the open spot and fill in the area between the skirt and the side of the car.. the scoop area will be the only tricky part and that will just be a decent amout of sanding. Prolly take me a day to do each side. As for leaving it outside, the car sits ouside with a cover but nething that isnt bolted down gets put away where it's safe wink.gif

I really wouldnt call it butched... just more doin what needs to be done to get what I want... but it really sucks makin those cuts in the side of the car frown.gif

The front is the only thing photoshopped.. the intercooler etc is all there.. basically its just the bottom half of the DO-Luck front and the upper half of the invader kit..

To a certian degree I already have, But yea I plan on doin alot more lightenin to her.. Biggest thing I plan on doing lightening right now is to remove as much weight off the doors as possible with out sacraficing strength. I really don't want to lighten the car TOO much though... I would rather have a slightly heavier car with my motor than a car that is soo light it wouldn't catch on the track. I also want to try and keep her a little bit balanced and not have too much of a weight displacement to the front.

Ideally I would like to have the celica weight about as much as it does once im done as it did stock, but with the 3sgte and everything else... im also thinkin about cagin it pretty soon and that's gonna be alot of extra weight

well this has been a good week for me.. Got quite a few new goodies for the car and my tenzo seats should be here within the next week. Got everything figured out with the bodyshop so the car is setup to go as soon as I get all of the fiberglassing done... Gonna work on the front tomorrow - wish me luck tongue.gif Guess stipt is gonna help me with it a little.. I will post photos if I can find a place other than imagestation to host photos on.. or maybe it will be back up by then.

I HATE THE RAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

okay... now that I have said that....

Worked on the front today.. got alot done today.. am going to say for those that might be thinkin about putting on a Supra front - you better know what your doing and have experince with custom work before - there is alot more than I expected to make it fit.. hell even had me stumped a few times as to what I should do.. but got most of it figured out.

It did involve cutting of the fenders, alot of trimming of the front and a few other mods to things.

Unfortunately I didn't get to finish it up today due to the rain mad.gif Today would of been a perfect day to do fiberglass.. the temp was high enuf that if I used a heat lamp the fiberglass would of setup right.. but it had to start raining about an hour before I would of been ready to start some fiberglassin mad.gif .

another stumblin block is that to make the two fronts line up correctly it looks like
I am going to have to extend the Do-Luck front on the sides some... gonna look at it a little closer next weekend before I make ne cuts but looks like it needs to be about an inch or two longer on each side, but some of this might be due to the way I had the leftover section of the invader airdam clamped making it stick out a little farther than it should. This might prove to be a good thing though cuz I was a little unhappy with the way that just the Do-Luck front looked when postioned onto the car.. had kind of a pugnosed look to it.. bringin it out a little looked alot better.

Newayz on with the photos, Image station isn't up yet so I can only load a few onto my profile now and link em here but I have pretty much step by step photos if neone is interested let me know.

Yea I know some of the cuts are a little crooked right now but that will all be smoothed together.
