It always sounded so easy. And it would have been if everything hadn't been siezed up and rusted together. My car was originally from oregon, then spent several years in kansas.....the salt took its toll. The large lower bolts were totally frozen up and had to be cut off. The bottom bolt for the trailing arm came loose, but wouldn't come out of the bushing so it had to be cut off. I tried heating one of the spindles to get the large control arm bolt out, but melted one of the bushings in the process so I have to get a new bushing from toyota in the morning. I've never seen a car so stuck together....even my boss from canada said he'd never seen a car from 'down south' (the us) so hard to get apart.
Anyway, its all on except for the bushing. I'll get that back together tomorrow. I found the right adapters for the brake lines, so I'll order my stainless lines tomorrow. It should be bltchin when its all done. Slotted rotors, stainless lines, AP Racing Fluid, Speedbleeders, awesome pads (kinda secret until testing is complete), and 4 wheel disks..hell yah. I'll add an adjustable proportioning valve sometime soon. |

yeah the age of the car really shows when you can't get bolts off like that huh. but out of curiousity, are you no longer running in sts? won't the disc conversion bump you up a class or two?

Pics will be forthcoming. The disks would bump me to Street Mod, but its no biggie as I'll be turboing it very soon.
Insurance won't be any cheaper with 4-wheel disks, it is a little cheaper with ABS however. |

SM2 is the class i will be running for my first year. being a vetrain (atleast compared to me) what kind of competition do you run into in the SM classes? i guess im just wondering as to if the skill of drivers in the SM class is about the same, less, or greater than those in the STS class?

Man, I've only run SM once and it was at a regional here in dallas. I'm used to kicking everybodys ass at regionals and I was 5th in SM. Granted, I'm in Dallas and there are some heavy hitters here (i.e. the Cobb Tuning WRX) and my car wasn't even close to done (still n/a making just over 100hp and 115ft-lbs at the wheels) but still. I've found that if you look hard enough you'll find good drivers in every class. If you don't live in a big region, go to divisionals, if thats not enough competition for you, go to nationals and see how you really stack up. Be prepared for an eye opener. STS is probably more matched in terms of cars and car prep levels so the competition is closer and that might artificially make the drivers look better but again, any class you go to is going to have some shoes in it. |

You have to have the brake lines off a GT for the GT rears. The GT and ST front lines should be the same, but I'm not 100% sure.
The proportioning valve allows you to control the brake bias, i.e. how much braking is done at each end of the car. Its really necessary to get 100% out of the braking system. However, I don't have one yet and the car feels pretty goos without it, it doesn't do anything overly squirelly. If I had to guess, I'd say its at about 90% of its full potential without the PV. Also, if you get the GT calipers you also have to have the GT disks. This post has been edited by SpedToe169: Feb 6, 2004 - 6:01 PM |

where would I get an adjustable proportioning valve? Should I just buy new brake lines instead of using the old ones?
