Well seeing as we're stuck together by fate, or something like that, I suppose I should embrace it and what not. So I thought to myself, "Hey, maybe if you did stuff to the Celica to make it your own you'd like it more." I then gave myself a high-five for such a good idea. All in all I really like the car aside from the slowness, then I thought to myself again, "Hey, the only time you have to use speed is pulling out into traffic or passing some moron and the Celica is adequate in that regard." Another high-five occurred. Then the deal sealer, "Hey moron you couldn't buy another car, not even another Celica, worth a damn for what you'd be giving up your car for." You guessed it, a...punch to the face. Nah, just kidding there was definitely another high-five. So anyhow, the whole purpose of this thread is to keep me and the Celica on positive terms and it's also to help motivate me to do the things that I want to do. I have a bunch of cheap ideas that in all should be under $100, and should help in making the car more to my liking. Less on that now, and more boring history. So I bought the Celica almost two years ago, and nothing has really happened. The end. Glad that's over, now for fun things. Of course there're the obligatory pictures.

So there ya go, I'm even so hardcore I left my plate tag exposed for the world to see. Anyhow a little more about it. It's the ST 5-speed and is fully loaded as they could be. Power windows and locks, A/C, power moonroof, rear wiper, and even has the optional 14" alloys. I'm curious as to how rare the 14" alloys are, as I've yet to see another set as most ST's have steelies or have aftermarket wheels by now. As far as the car goes it's pretty much stock. The only thing aftermarket is that it's lowered on Tein coil springs and KYB struts, and the radio was replaced as well. Mechanically the car is sorted and everything is already taken care of for the next 50,000+ miles, I suppose that's a good kind of boring though. There is one thing I've done to make the car unique, I painted the plastic trim pieces in metallic black: Door handle cups, air vent trim, door switch panels, center console, and gauge surround. I think it's a classy and subtle touch, I like that it could pass for OEM.

Can see it really well on the air vent trim and door panel switch. You can stop oogling my legs now.
I also added some awesome decals:

Then at one point I spent a couple of days busting my ass waxing it.

So that was fun, of course the clear is still peeling. Thanks a lot previous owners' neglect, Alabama heat, AND THE FREAKING COLOUR RED.
Oh, and one last thing... I have something that I imagine very few of you people do... So very rare...

That's right, the original key! The key's teeth are so smooth and rounded now, yet it still works. Of course I keep it in a safe place and use a copy key now. So now that all of that is out of the way, time for possible future modifications:

QUOTE
Figure out something to do with the clear peel...
S2000 or VW shark fin antenna
Tint the taillights with window tint for a deep glossy look, along with painting the tag bezel black
Find 5GC power mirrors and paint them black along with door handles, if the above happens
Install a short throw shifter for quicker response and fun factor
True cold air intake for sucking sound and marginal, if any, gains
Replace the secondary cat with a glass-pack and the muffler with a Magnaflow XL chambered muffler for marginal gains and hopefully not too bad of a sound
Possibly buy JDM tails and "American-ize" them, therefore making them legal by meeting U.S. side-marker requirements.
Remove spoiler and properly fill and paint
Remove front side-markers and properly fill and paint.
FIND and install better seats
Find premium audio door panels
Redo sun visors
Repaint wheels
Redo audio
LED interior lighting
Fog lights
Lit key-ring
Replace front Toyota badge with Celica dragon emblem

Some of those are iffy, but most I'd like to do in the nearby future. If I happen to think of anything else I'll throw it into here. So anyhow I promise to stop complaining, or at the least cut it out significantly. After extensive searching since April, and especially here recently, the grass is only greener on the other side due to the other piece of shìt cars fertilizing the soil. Besides, all the other forums suck in comparison and I really don't want to go through the trouble of reestablishing myself. tongue.gif

I know, it's revolutionary in a way. tongue.gif Meh, just figure it's for the best. I could buy another car for what I could sell the Celica for, but then I'd have to instantly spend $1,000+ on it to make it the way I want it and to bring it up to a level I could halfway trust it. Honestly I rather spend the money on a cheap RWD project that I could care less if it dies during auto X and drift. That and my first love of musical instruments, I sadly have more invested there than anywhere else.

Hey Box... Box... Box....... ..... .... .... Its RED laugh.gif

P.S. You forgot to mention your awesome JDM storage tray next to your cigarette lighter.

And I didn't realise the key thing was rare... I use my original every day and I'm sure many people do tongue.gif

And new plan.... get unreliable POS but fun drift / autoX / hooning around car.... work on it until you are confidant in it running for a couple of weeks, then BEAMS or V6 swap your car wink.gif

Yeah, I know.. Still hate that, but meh... Seriously contended finding a black liftback to swap all of my stuff into, then sell mine. Of course everyone is asking not much less for their ragged out piece of junk than I am for mine.

I don't know, it could or could not be. I just rarely see cars over 10 years old where they kept up with the original key.

Yep, except for semi-reliable. tongue.gif I'd swap if it were a GT, but being the ST it's a pain in the ass either way.

Whinging excuses = Complaining. STOP IT! We know it can be done! tongue.gif Just makes for a better reason to get a BEAMS clip with LSD, or V6 and get the E153.

I do agree on the black GT front.... just sit patiently waiting and one will turn up. Just spend money on things like the leather, speakers, lights etc. that can all be swapped over really easily anyway, so you aren't wasting anything by waiting for a car to swap later smile.gif

I have to keep the decals, I lubs them. tongue.gif I have an 1,000 watt U.S.A. made Rockford Fosgate subwoofer just sitting in the floor of my music room.

Hey, only I get to paraphrase others for my benefit. tongue.gif I said I would for the most part. Being it is the ST I'd just go V6, since the BEAMS would lose its easy factor. There's always the 4A family, but from what I've found none of them are really any easier it'd seem.

So, semi-rare. tongue.gif It's the first car I've had with the original key, outside of my '67 Coupe DeVille which had both original keys and the owner's manual. Leaving for the weekend, will get started on some things when I have free time next week.

I also have my original key along with the valet/spare key; not to mention the two extras I've had made.

I'm glad you started a thread Box - maybe you'll keep your red Celica hate confined here. :] You may want to add "Replace radiator" to that list as yours looks about ready retirement.

Are you looking for a particular color for your leather seats? Don't say black...

What is rare though is my spotless undercarriage, the next time I have it up on the lift I'll have to snap some pictures to make all of the northerners jelly. tongue.gif

Yeah, the radiator is needing replaced. Haven't had any problems since it was patched though, so I'll keep with it until it completely dies. Somehow I trust an aged Japanese made radiator more so than a new Chinese made one.

Ehh, I'm looking for obsidian coloured seats. tongue.gif

Hmm, I want to say some GT models had it. Trying to remember if there was wiring there when I had the gauge bezel off... Oh well... Anyhow, got around to looking and the wiring for the antenna is still there. For whatever reason someone at one point thought a cheap ass generic antenna would be better... Anyway, hopefully can get the OEM antenna from The_End and I found a S2000 antenna on eBay. So can get that all straightened out, hopefully I'll pick up more than one station once it's all said and done. I know it'll look a lot better at least. tongue.gif

My 94 GT has the key ring light as well. Ha, someone thought a generic stick-to-the-back glass antenna was better in my case too. Luckily I found one intact at my local yard for $15. Too bad I didn't know about the s2k antenna before then haha looks much better.

Most people mod the stock antenna to use the S2000 one. Since I don't have the OEM antenna I looked for alternatives and found that the VW antenna base uses screw in antennas, so makes life easier. tongue.gif That and it looks like it should fit the curvature of the quarter panel quite well, if not nothing a thin bead of silicone can't fix.

There we go:

Seems reception might be marginally better, the important thing is that it looks much better than what was there...

It'll take awhile getting used to looking in the driver mirror and not seeing a giant antenna flapping in the wind.

That's ok, I'm thinking about giving up and buying some luxury car... Getting into the car the other day somehow I pulled something in my rib cage, I thought I was going to have to call for help it hurt so bad. Then when you're inside the ride is harsh and cramped, nobody wants to ride in it and I can't honestly blame them... Can't find any damn seats to alleviate the issue, so fùck it...

I know, I know, the complaining thing... It's just frustrating when NO ONE wants to go with you in your car, and you have to hurt yourself in order to drive it... If I could find some seats that'd help, but God forbid something like that happens... Still doesn't solve the problem where you're right next to each other, which depending on the gender of the passenger that can be bearable. I can't think of anything at the moment I'd want instead anyway though, for some reason luxury sports coupes with manual transmissions are few and far between...

You've got a good looking car. I've got a 96 st myself but its a base model. Your comment about it being uncomfortable made me laugh. A co-worker of mine complains about mine every time he gets in it. I would love to find a reasonably priced gt but have not been able to do so. I can't get rid of mine because it just too darn dependable. Thanks for the tip about the golf/s2000 antenna. I need to replace mine as well.

Thanks. Yeah, outside of that I genuinely like the car. Really it's due to the poor excuses for roads that we have around here, most are terrible even in a stock sedan much less a lowered sports coupe. I'm just at the point where I don't care about saving fuel, and rather be comfortable seeing as my problems appear to be getting worse... IF SOMEBODY would sell me leather seats, it'd help tremendously. I'm only 5'10" and of somewhat broad stature, I don't see how the people over 6'2" deal with it. Especially the guy(reason my seat is trashed) that had it before me was 6'6" and 350 pounds. I don't really see the point of the GT unless you're going to engine swap it immediately, it isn't really much faster and the mpg takes a nose dive. On the antenna you will need an adapter one way or another, rather it's the original or aftermarket. I just ended up wiring the plug from the antenna I had into the new base, so I didn't need the adapter.

I was considering finding one with a bad engine or trans for swapping.

Mine were blown out by a 6'6" 350 pound giant. Even after swapping the passenger foam and covers over to the driver side it's still terrible. Still doesn't solve the problem of my left leg and arm being wedged into the door panel, my right leg being wedged into the center dash, and my right arm extending over the edge of the center console. I'm too damn broad for the car, yes I'm working on losing some weight now. Even then it's really a matter of bone structure, it's why I have to buy my suits in separate pieces. Apparently a 40 in pants with a 54 jacket isn't normal. That's right, even being overweight I have the "V" shape. tongue.gif

Odd it has the leather wrapped wheel and wood trim kit, but cloth seats.

Anyhow, I don't know what to do anymore. Can't find any seats to try and make the car bearable, I've been searching for ages now and nothing... I would put it back on stock suspension, but then it'll drive like ass and ruin the car...

Go to an upholstery shop and get your seats done, it might be more than used ones, but at least you will have it soon and it will be NEW. You'll for sure know you'll be the first one to have sex on them.

I have a few small modifications with the bigger one being the suspension... tongue.gif Like I said earlier, it's not a matter of covers it's the fact the foam is gone. New seat covers aren't going to magically make worn out foam feel like new. If it was just the covers I'd have made them myself eons ago.

Honestly getting into and out of the my new Celica I think will be my least favorite thing about it. I'm only 5'8", so I'm comfortable when seated, but getting in and out is already a pain with the injuries I have. And I have nothing too serious! The Celica is a fairly low slung coupe, if you have to move on for the reason of comfort, I understand that completely.

It's a damned if I do, damned if I don't situation... Getting in is easier than getting out, but it's really just the comfort once driving that's bothersome. Yes it's been lowered, but it wouldn't be so bad if the seats were better. Then again if the roads weren't absolute garbage it wouldn't really matter... I don't know if there's anything I'll totally be comfortable in anyway, even riding in my brother's fully loaded Maxima I'm not entirely comfortable. I've ridden in newer cars as well, what's sad is some of them stock and only a few years old were worse than the Celica...

Meh, don't need ABS. No point in paying the price for a '99 when it's no different from a '96 to '98 model either... Lower miles is nice and all, but for what people want for a lower miles and later year car, the options for better cars becomes available.

Anyhow, to get back onto topic somewhat I'm still looking for seats and no luck... Ehh, I suppose at this point I'd even consider a nice cloth set. Seems 7GC cloth sets are fairly easy to come by, only problem is I don't recall any of them being black...

But you'll need to pick up 96+ seat rails from a 6gc to make them work

Doesn't the 7gc back seat fit too?

Hopefully you remedy this seat situation soon! I have the black/grey cloth seats in my 7gc and tan leather in my 6gc. Both are pretty comfy although I'm noticing the 7g seats aren't great for long distance trips on my back...but they could be worn out as the car has 218k on it already! I also have a full set of cloth seats to sell from my 6gc parts car that are in pretty decent shape.

Hiya mate not been here for a while but yeah the 7gc rears fit straight in without too many issues and the fronts don't quite line up so they'll need a little welding done to fabricate them to mount easily enough

I'd recommend that you don't go for leathers as they wear very quickly and look ****e when they're marked up lol

If you go for the cloth seats from a 7gc 140 if you get them not the 190 version you'll get better seats

Here's mine from my white Celica

And yes I had the 7gc wheel as well, Makes a lot of difference to the interior IMO smile.gif

If you've got a 94-95 the rails are either slightly different in length or width I can't remember which it was but it's not as much of a pig to do as some expect it to be

Over in the UK the 96+ rails are the same as the others so I'd not expect too much to be different possibly wiring for airbags but that should be about it,

Obviously you'd not be able to use the airbags in the seats from the 7gc

Do you have the 140's over there or just the 190's? GT's or GT-S aren't they :S

You don't have to weld 7th gen seats. You can just swap your old rails over. It's much easier than welding in my opinion.I definitely recommend 7gc seats, they're very comfortable and supportive.

Mine are the 94-95, and we have the GT and GT-S here. Though over here the seats are the same between the two aside from materials used and they don't have airbags in them. Personally I like how the 7GC seats look more than the 6GC seats, the integrated headrest looks nicer to me.

Yeah I have the black/grey 7th Gen seats. They're not in yet, but I have to weld the seat rails because I have the 94 seats currently, and finding a junked 96+ around here is impossible. kindasad.gif

I was also contemplating either (a) getting leather seat covers or (b) just dying the cloth straight black... so there are always options if you find a decent set. thumbsup.gif

Mine are the 94-95, and we have the GT and GT-S here. Though over here the seats are the same between the two aside from materials used and they don't have airbags in them. Personally I like how the 7GC seats look more than the 6GC seats, the integrated headrest looks nicer to me.

Why don't you just swap over the rails? It's easier than welding in my opinion.

Sounds easy when you say it like that.

Have you done it?

It's just a matter of figuring out how to get the 7GC seat pan into the 6GC rail. The backs of the seat swap over from my understanding. I'd like to find a set to try it with, what I'm thinking is you'll take the 7GC seat pan and make new bolt holes so that they align with the 6GC rail. I think if you have the 96-99 6GC seats it's just a matter of taking the 7GC cushion and cover and putting them onto the 6GC seat pan. The 94-95 and 96-99 bottom pan and cushion are different. For whatever reason they decided it needed to be changed after two years.

Yep. You just have to swap over the 6gc seat pan and rails and do some piecing together but it works.Ill try to remember everything I did and post pictures when I get the chance.

Where was I.... Ah yes... I'm now on the search for the window regulator cable as that's the only thing wrong and keeping the window from working properly. Outside from the obvious of getting another from a 94-99 Celica I'm wondering if perhaps one out of a Camry or Corolla would be long enough, that or even make one from something else entirely. It'd be stupid to buy another regulator just for that... For the time being I was able to get it where the window is all the way up and disconnected the wiring from the motor so the window can't be rolled down. On a another note it's good to know our cars have some fairly robust side-impact bars.

I'm thinking that'd work out well, would finally have something to tie in with the ceiling of the car.

HUGE update for tomorrow!!! I could tell you now, but what would be the fun without pictures! Plus it's fun to add an air of suspense! Provided it doesn't rain tomorrow I'll be picking it up, and taking pictures of course! Then once I install it, there'll be more pictures! WOO!!!

Psssh, the only badges left on mine are the corporate logos and that's how it's staying. You'll just have to wait and see!

Hopefully the rain holds off, will be picking it up at 4:30-5:00. Won't kill everyone to wait until then. tongue.gif
