this was scott project in michigan, over all the condition of the car is average to good. Closer to good.

Has several issues, it was a project car, so i knew some gremlins come with it.

Not will be a main project for me, but it will be converted to a daily driver, will swap a fully working engine to it, and in the end until i find another beater driver/ emergency car, will sell...

So ill do all the work, someone will get a nice car, and ill have fun, they will have fun...

of course that may be months before i do it. Or may not be done at all (the selling part).

is a turbo 3rd gen 3sge with st205 ecu and some custom work. It pulls hard, but it needs lot of work

-Brakes squeal due to bad rotor

-Engine has idle tick, really annoying

-Manifold has a crack

-Rust in rear suspension

-no clock spring

But over all its a good start.....

For the idle tick check the valve clearances, one may be out of spec. If it's by a large amount you need to pull the head and check the valve and valve seat for problems.

The real question here is, which car pulls harder- the new STi or the new Celica?

Nice progress man, the engine setup doesn't look bad at all deffinetly looks like a fun project to play with and tweak. Look forward to seeing it come along!

*you can buy a clothe spray paint to refurb the seats, when I cleaned mine I masked off the centers once dried and sprayed the black trim and made the seats look brand new again, multiple light coats gets the job done perfectly. Just an idea to think about I guess, sears look great either way!

do they feel hard? thats how my carpet felt, and rubbing it started to make it fade again.

any how here is to more today, as i upgraded the rear speakers, and cleaned up the trunk, missing quite a few pieces, that maybe a junkyard dive will help...

I had some alpines laying around from previous dead cars..

had a chance to inspect both rear gutters and to my surprise they are awesome....

and had to vacuum the rear carpet, i wish it was spring at least so i can wash it...

tar is still there, is beige. Being a budget build, did not want to spend too much time in it.

Oh ok! Well if you want to shave an easy +/- 10 lbs go buy 5-10$ worth of dry ice, spread on tar then light taps with a regular hammer. It will come off real easy and break into small pieces.

i needed to get the rear spindles out and broke some bolts, and cannot get the control arms.

the rear susp frame, is rusting, and needs sandblasting...

i have to get the whole piece out, and will disassemble outside the car...

The long through bolt in each hub is tough to get out.
I used a torch, massive impacts, and a sledge. Then I bought new bolts (ruined from the sledge).

The through bolts on the subframe shouldn't be too difficult, worse case cut them, and new bolts again.

Today. I did the same thing with customer's car.

Yellow ST202 ,original super strut, but very poor maintenance.

All ball joint are loose, front wheel bearing NG, and all super strut component are loose.

Today just finished rear side. I replace all 4 arms with solid rubber bushing type.

Tomorrow I will replace wheel bearing and super strut components.

Im 24 and Im sure it would be my dream lol. I love it and just getting another celica beater again too. Ive always loved the turbos, but they never come around. And I dont feel like shelling out the bucks to buy one though either just for a beater. There is 10 on craigslist right now for 1000-2000 depending on if you want the 1.8 or 2.2

I like the progress already. Keep it up!

so a pretty good weekend... because got stuff done, i dont recommend this by the average DIY, if you have no good tools you can be SOL...

for the arms, this was the problem... getting the rubber out was ok, but the metal sleeves were also frozen... so

basically i use a saw to cut inside and weaken the sleeve

and press it out.. i tried just pressing it out, but it was not working.. i kept slipping...

and here it is..

then i marked each piece so i remember where it goes. kinda braille (see those 2 dots)

at the end of the day, today, all pieces were ready for treatment... after fighting with the last frozen bolt in the spindle

in between, i took the chance to finish the seats in the rear... i dont reuse the hog pins, i keep very JDM, zip ties...

'

yes some pop corn is good.... and then after some scotch guard spray.. they look clean!! have to do the driver seat...

no rush to work on the suspension, as the bolts have not even shipped yet.....

at the end of the day, damage to the press...

Wow. What size socket did you use to press out the sleeve?

And how did you damage the press like that?

lol, it was a 24 mm, i should have used a 25 mm or 26mm. I just opted not to get one. (i should have) . The press is a harbor freight press, and their reviews are bad in a way, i guess i expected for it to happen. But not that fast. the damage happened before i figured out to cut the sleeves, then heat them and press them.

I tried to press the sleeves from the get go, and it was not possible, they were seized so bad, i guess too many winters...

its been 1 1/2 week donwtime, since weather, work and waiting for parts. I should have planned this different, but i have a daily driver.... and the vert still drivable, although missing most of the interior now.

about 4 per bolt, but if you are careful, you can reuse the ones you had.

the 90901-09001 will usually not be damaged and is the most expensive one.. its usually never rusted...

i ordered..

90901-19001 holds the spindle to the control arms..

90119-12131 for the lateral arms..

and no, im not powder coating. its on a budget..... The car will be driven by me for a few months, and maybe then will be on sale...

i dropped it, and did not chip.... (it was an accident)

i got to crazy and.... the struts are nice, but they would look out of place all rusted, and the rest so shiny and new.....

and then these were so rusted, i gave them a change and chance....

That looks really good! I just did something similar, except with POR 15 chassis coat. Turns out its not so bad after all if you buy it in aerosol form. I'm really curious to see how the two finishes hold up because it feels like the POR was a little too expensive for what it is.

East wood mkes some goooooood stuff. I service and restore classic cats at work when they are more "in season" and constantly use their auto CAD (factory silver look), underhood black, and tried out some new stuff for a custom 50 Plymouth im building. Its called carb renew. I sprayed the silver carbs and they turned out holley brown color. Its amazing. Its a bit pricey and I usually order only online at work, but would recommend it to anyone who wanys to detail anything on their car, for the people who actually care.

I have not yet used the chassis paint, but after seeing that, ill have to give it a go! Good work!

so finally after so much time, and granted it almost was a rear suspension overhaul, most like, refurbish, the car is sitting on its wheels, i did not remember how tall it was lol...

and say no to RUST --- not a needles car

not bad for a northern car..

and a peak to the full job

i had to rebleed the whole brake fluid, as this was nasty...

so moving on to fixing issues...

i realized previous owner did a temp fog light switch wiring... and while i was there, i fixed the clock spring.

Clock spring intallation is crucial it only spins 2 1/2 times either way, so pay atention, and center....

that should take care of the horn and airbag.

Step 2 should start very soon.

will concentrate on front brakes and suspension.... clean the engine bay and power wash the carpet too...

will put a different engine in it...

yes it needs a drop. but not a priority

So, if you're not using the engine that's in there but using the same transmission... 4A-GE or 4A-GZE perhaps? Or maybe even a 2ZZ-GE? I can't remember anymore notable C transmission engines.

That had a w2a IC right ?
Did he use a 3rg gen 3sgte ecu ?

If so, I'm guessing the purple wire went to the pump for it and maybe the other for the relay. The 3rd gen needs a power source for the IC pump/relay...

Test for acc power on those. I'm guessing they're tapped for it, nothing to worry about.

well actually the second blue wire was a tap for the radiator temp sensor, only one wire, but i dont know why, since the plug was already down there, but it is a two plug. Im thinking that wire is

the blue/black wire that i borrowed a pic from smay...

which is an extra wire of the 7a that goes to the temp sensor in comparison to the GT harness...

Ha, i found it browsing the web!!!!

but also realized the st harness is missing

a light green wire...

so, i dont know what that green wire will do? but its missing in the ST harness, i have not looked at any diagram yet... lol

I still have to take the fuse box apart, to see what that purple wire is beeing tapped to..

If I felt like it I could go out to mine and yank the wire out then observe what catastrophic event unfolds.

IIRC that is for the abs module. I had a mini heart attack before my swap when I noticed the green wire existed on my 3sgte engine harness, but not on my gt chassis harness. You should take a look at the abs wiring diagrams to be sure.

if memory serves, the light green wire goes to the CF signal on the ECU, its related to the AC system on the GT.
