I have a 12v li-po cell. The alternator puts out 80amps.Is that too much current to charge a small cell?
How do I stop the alternator over charging it? The instructions say I must make sure the the battery management system doesnt exceed 15v. This post has been edited by yellowchinaman: Apr 25, 2014 - 1:11 PM |

I'm sure you have a voltmeter or multi-meter right? Hook it up to the battery with the car running and rev it up to 5K, if it doesn't exceed some 14.4-6 volts you're fine.

Buy a small voltmeter and monitor your charging all the time.

Your ECU controls the alternator's internal voltage regulator. If anything is to happen you will see it fast and react accordingly, instead of driving for an unknown period with a bad charging system.
And your alternator is not constantly producing 80A. When demanded, it supplies. -------------------- |

I see. My boost controller has a built in volt meter and at most its 14.1v when boosting.
so you think its ok to just connect it like a normal battery? |

I am not familiar with the type of cell you have mentioned. But if it designed for in car use, just follow the instructions and install.

14.1V is kind of weak, so you really don't have anything to worry about then.
