So my pump got ridiculously loud yesterday, then today I started it and it was back down to its normal sound. Normally it runs at a noticeable volume, but yesterday I could hear it very loud over my car exhaust. It only has 7k miles on it, I doubt it would be going out already, but that's possible. I used the GSS342 for the Mazda mx3. The car seemed to be idling strangely, but still accelerated fine, and my voltage output was at the normal 13s according to my gauge. I didn't check the voltage at the pump though. Could it have been a restriction or ventilation issue?

Replace the strainer, my friend had the same issues in his gst ah..ok. That kinda makes sense. The car sat for 4 years while I was building up the 3s to go in it. I drained the tank, but there could have still be sediment in it. -------------------- -Jay

Did you run it fairly low on fuel by chance? It wouldn't hurt to change the strainer and fuel filter if you haven't yet.

There are a couple gallons below E, but I understand that sediment floats on the gas, and a low tank will suck it up. I would keep it full but my tank leaks when I fill it up all the way, so I keep it between half and E. -------------------- -Jay

Leaks, that's not good.
![]() I also ran mine from around a half to around a quarter or so, just to keep as fresh as fuel as possible. Though it's a little more of a pain that just topping it off and letting it go from there. This post has been edited by Box: Jul 2, 2014 - 10:42 PM -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Could be the filler neck that's the culprit. If you were to fill it up to where it'd normally leak you might be able to see it. Permatex makes a fuel tank repair kit I believe.

Permatex makes a fuel tank repair kit I believe. there is also a gasket around the filler neck if I recall correctly. I'm pretty sure I removed the filler neck when I dropped the tank last time to dump the old fuel. So it might be that I need a new gasket and shouldn't have reused the old one. My plan is to fill it up all the way to where it leaks, since it's been about a year since I did it will clean off whatever dust is around that area. I haven't had a lot of luck with tank repair kits. They are made more for punctures, I tried all of them on a friends tank and none worked longer than a week. Silicone gasket maker might do the trick if I can find a fuel grade one. This post has been edited by match220: Jul 3, 2014 - 12:04 AM -------------------- -Jay

Hopefully it's something simple like that. Being in Hawaii I really don't see how it could be because of rust or what have you.

Hopefully it's something simple like that. Being in Hawaii I really don't see how it could be because of rust or what have you. I know it isn't from rust. I had the tank out last year and it was very rust free. I should check the fuel pump mount first since it's easy to access from beneath the seat. I hope that's all it is. -------------------- -Jay
