Best way to dispose of old parts., Wheel, hub, bearing, brake project left me with variety of old parts. Options

Please forgive me if I have posted this in the wrong forum. I tried to search, but couldn't figure out how to do that. Also, I fear this may be legitimately considered a 'stupid question' but thought there is no better place to get it answered, and it is bothering me.

I am interested in knowing what YOU do with old parts you remove when doing work on your car? Is there any preferred way to dispose of them, like recycling the metals, and if so, where do YOU take them? Should I take them to the city dump? Should I keep any of them around for any reason?

Take, for example, old brake rotors and drums. They represent significant weight of metal. Can they be 'sold' to a scrap metal dealer? Does anyone do that? Are there 'metal sculptors' dying to get their hands on used metal parts?

So, I'm cleaning out my garage and have a pile of old worn-out parts from my 94 Celica ST, most of which are not well cleaned, and I want to get rid of them. Let me show you so you have a better idea of what I am talking about:



That's the whole set in a single photo.



That shows a drum, a dust cover, a passenger side motor mount, and a steering knuckle (with bent ears).



That is a box of miscellaneous parts, including: some ball joints, tie rod ends, bearing seals, sway bar ties, bearing snap ring, old brake pads, caliper mounting bracket shims, and some stuff that didn't come off the car.



That's a caliper mounting bracket that isn't cleaned. Otherwise it's a good part that just needs cleaning and new rubber bushings.



That is a rear wheel hub removed from its bearing, and the bearing assembly. Bearing assembly would require a new bearing after cleaning. Nothing of value here.



An assortment of used bearings, ball bearings, some brake slave cylinders, and a broken start spring from my lawnmower.

I sold a bunch of my scrap parts to a recycling place. I believe it was a block, head,2 trans, crank, 4 steelies. I walked off with about 120. Its not like you make a ton of cash, but if the place is close by (mine is bout four miles away) its worth the trip and it helps to clear out that space. Also I sorted my ferrous stuff from non ferrous (made the drop off a bit easier), but they still checked.

with little stuff like that, i put it next to my mailbox, and

post a craigslist add. "Free Scrap metal"


then i go check in 4 hours, and it has dissapeared. i guess magically......


wont get much a coupe of pounds. 5 bucks, 10 bucks? thats gas money to go recycle it, lol// your choice....

I put everything on the end of my drive way a day or two before garbage night and the scrap metal folks swing by and pick it up...

Thank you three for stopping to help, and for cracking me up laughing. It's so simple when you've had the experience, it seems. And there is no magic to it.

Yet, it's like a large rock has been removed from my pathway, so I can move to the next task. AND, I don't have to clean all those parts!
