I'm restoring a 1994 Celica GT ST204 that was badly customized. Where the radio went, there was a gaping hole. No brackets, no bolts, and a clipped wiring harness.
I installed a standard Toyota radio plug and ordered the brackets from a Toyota dealer. I thought the bolts were metric #6 1.0 bolts with a 10mm head that are used throughout the car. I tried to use these size bolts but they wouldn't fit. My wife's 1998 Camry uses brass colored #6 bolts to hold in her stereo but they were too big for the Celica. As it turns out my Celica uses #5 .8 metric bolts/screws for the radio. Ironically I messed up one of the holes and tapped it to #6. the tapping process removed enough metal to indicate that this was never large enough for a #6 bolt. I put a note on the top of the stereo to indicate what I did to the hole so anyone in the future would know why one bolt was larger than the rest. |
