Figured I'd share my continuing wheel Corolla wheel bearing story with you guys. A month ago I put my FOURTH wheel bearing (put an OEM bearing and hub in). This one has my father and I scratching our heads... We've checked bad grounds already. We're going to replace the bearing for the fifth time and put a ground from the battery to the starter bolt... It's funny, my dad's been a tech for 32 years and he's never seen a car eat bearings like this...

Joe, what does the ground have to do with wheel bearings?

Also, if you are going through them so frequently, are you looking for other problems in an attempt to correct? A few off the top of my head are bad CV, wheel out of balance, deformed knuckle?

A bad ground could let current flow through the bearing and cause pitting.

I've thought about putting it into a ditch. Haha! Not really. It's in VERY good shape for 190,000 miles.

We replaced the bad ground the third time we've done it. The second bearing we changed we figured we got a bad one during the second swap. Once the third bearing went bad, we replaced the hub and bearing with good aftermarkets. We also replaced the bad ground from the body to the trans (it was literally chewed on by a mouse).

That one went bad and we figured that the hub and bearing were the issue, but far fetched. We then replaced them with a Toyota bearing and hub, and it just went bad the other day, like overnight. CV is good. The wheel is true and balanced. The knuckle being warped is unlikely, but not out of the question.

I'm going to swap the bearing out again with an OEM and put a ground from the starter to the battery. Like Daniel said, it happens... The way it got loud overnight made me think that is in fact electrical... When cranking, the arc is going across the ball bearings...

Just get a knee assembly from a junk yard. If you're still blowing through bearings then I dunno wtf to tell you. Maybe take the bad one apart to do a necropsy.

I questioned Chris about where he got his big pack of microfiber towels from. He said he gets his at Sams Club. I go to Costco and I looked there and bought a big 36 pack of them, they are amazing. So... If anyone needs microfibers and they have a Costco membership (or Sams), get them there. c:

You should bring it! Haha! I've never been in one. My dad actually bought it from an old lady who brought it in to his shop. I picked it up for $800. Needed tires, a windshield, cat, an alignment, and I'm gonna change out the trans fluid.

It'll be nice to have a hatch again for hauling stuff, and from what I've seen, this thing has a LOT of room in the back.

We would love to have you out, but we usually hold the meets on Saturday because we have folks that come from 5+ hours away and need Sunday as the travel day to get back to wherever they happen to be coming from...

There are a few of us that are local to the area and we don't really plan anything... Just kind of randomly meet up.

haha yeah vibe/matrix are pretty much the same anyways. only the center console is a bit different. $800. not a bad deal. haha.
the matrix is awesome for hauling stuff. I've been cramming it full of stuff, getting ready to move. the front passenger seat folds down for you get that extra room for hauling too. thumbsup.gif

So I'm going to race in the Sugar River Raceway Saturday (7/2) event. Someone else, or maybe more, should come and join me. I've never been. It's a go kart track in Brodhead, WI. It's a 50 lap race, and it's only $80 for the day, they supply EVERYTHING.

I use to race go karts nationally, so this should be a fun blast from the past.

You going to come?! Awesome! Sign in is at noon, practice starts at 12:30. Make sure you call to sign up before it fills up, you don't have to pay up front, just when you get there.

My dad's going to race too.

I don't know if I'm going, depends how I feel friday night/saturday morning. Likely going to be wiped out from work so I don't know, don't hold your breathe. If it were Sunday I'd be in for sure, Saturday is usually my recovery day.

What time? It's a 2.5hr drive from here so not horrendous but if it's like at 8AM then I gotta leave at the buttcrack of dawn.

Saw this VERY clean 91' GT at a dealer in Milwaukee. I can't see ANY rust, the rockers even look solid.

I'm going to be helping someone look at some used cars tomorrow, no karting for me. Traffic to and from Wis on a holiday weekend was probably going to be brutal anyway.

We will definitely be in the 4Runner if we are up there. I'm not sure of a date but I was informed last night that we may need to meet someone at the airport "at the end of August." It's not a sure thing yet though.

after you clean it up and get that water issue solved, you should throw a bit more soundproofing in there. I find my matrix a bit more noisy than i would like it for a DD. it's nothing compared to my celi but the celi is racecar. so no f##ks given.

And a manual trans.

Raam Audio has great damping products, but to actually BLOCK noise you need mass loaded vinyl. Just damping the floor pan and doors will make a big difference in how the stereo sounds in the car, even a factory stereo, but it won't really make the car tons quieter. Mass loaded vinyl will absorb the sound, not just alter the frequencies of the sound.

In other news, I have been pondering the idea of getting a hotel room in schuamburg right across the road from where i used to live for school. I am very nervous about leaving my car in a parking lot over night. Should i be worried or am I over thinking this? Hotel is in a nice area, and I have wheel locks so a key is needed to take the wheels off haha

Yes. Skyler, the car should be fine. People really don't mess with Celicas anyway.

If there was just that one incident with Shig's car a few years ago, in all the time he's owned it up there, you'll be fine for a night.

We're going to drive down to Bloomington to visit family after the meet so whether we're in for dinner will depend on the direction dinner is in this time around in case anyone's already thinking about that.

I'm still trying to figure out if I'm coming or not this year, my primary 6gc is shameful at the moment, and none of my others are ready but I'd like to see all of yours.
