Does anyone use or tried octane boosters that you add to your fuel? I have heard they can improve performance and smooth out acceleration and flatspots etc.
Can anyone recommend a good brand, how much to use cost etc ![]() -------------------- Facelift bumper-foglights-clear indicators, clear side repeaters, 16in O.Z alloys, stainless steel grill. it sounds like those are a gimmick. If you get enough octane in your gas, adding more octane will not help anything. If the gas you are buying has too little amount of octane, then you are in trouble.

If you add octane boost to lets say Premium gas (91 octane) it will add a little more power possibly, around 1-3hp. But what it will actually do to help your engine is burn up all the carbon in the engine and make it run smoother.

Octane is a knock inhibitor, so if you have a knock, then you buy higher gas or go to a store and buy octane booster. But the other comments are true to life as well.

Here is a link that may clear up some questions. it isn't directly related to octane boosters, but it will tell you that higher octane only gives you a psycological edge, not an actual performance gain.

****, psychological edge? Give me some Super-Premium 2000 Octane gas! So I can get in my car and go "wooo 200hp!" and in reality same old 115hp.

I tried the NOS booster on my old Vette. All it really did was make the car run a little easier.(idle)

Hmm...maybe it would be better to just use a higher octane rated fuel to begin with.
