I HATE being the guy who has to start a topic for troublshooting something like this... but here we go.

I have a 1994 ST Manual that I've been trying to get back on its feet. Recently its started jerking and stuttering while accelerating. My alternator starting failing so I figured once I got it replaced it would hopefully fix the stuttering. Apparently not, now its worse. Anyone else ever have this problem? I'm 99% sure the alt works fine and that its installed correctly, car still starts and no issues w/ the battery.

Also just had the clutch replaced 2 years ago so I really hope that isn't the problem. Any ideas!?

Does it have any check engine codes? Check to see if the cel light is working by looking at it when you turn the key to on position. If no cel codes, get a timing light and check the timing. Also inspect distributor for any wear. The coil pack and wires.
Im pretty sure if its stumbling then the cel would def be throwing a code. Also, it doesnt hurt to give it a minor tune up. Spark plugs and wires, oil change, ect. The basic maintainence work.

Is this a hatch or coupe? Im not that far from you so if its a hatch... Id be glad to take it off your hands:P
Located in des moines iowa. So if you are in town... I can help

No check engine codes at all. Just put in snazzy new plugs and wires a few months ago. I'm actually considering selling it sometime soon, it is a coupe though. Love the hell out of the car, refuses to die no matter what happens to it, its just time for a new vehicle.

Before taking it to a shop, I'd say start more simply. Jack each corner and wiggle the wheel. See if there's any play.

Will do.

So its shifting smooth, but sputtering during acceleration? Or are you having trouble getting into gears at high RPM, or any grinding? Cause the title states won't shift smoothly, but your issue doesn't sound related after reading.

Also the pulling could be many of things, just have to get down there and see whats wrong. Check to see what needs to be replaced before you go for an alignment.

I guess what I mean by shifting smoothly is that after the car is in gear and I'm releasing the clutch, it'll shake or lurch forward then accelerate slowly. It's difficult to explain, it feels like I'm not giving it enough gas but that shouldn't be an issue.

Might've found the problem, bought the car from my father, according to him the rear strut mounts are rusted like crazy and the timing belt needs to be replaced.
