I think you're talking about the upper strut mount. There should be that, then the upper spring perch you got with the ground controls, with a big flat thrust bearing inbetween (its black). These three pieces are all suppoed to come apart. The bearing fits up into a little cup in the strut mount and the GC perch just kinda sits on the bearing. Its a really poorly designed system (on GC's part) and thats why it pops. The real and proper fix to it is to get camber plates and pillow ball mounts. I'll be doing this soon and might be able to offer a few up for sale.
I think your car is ok from your last description. As long as its as I described above then all is normal and you don't need any parts. As far as the pull goes...you have to be very careful when you take the car down off the jack that the perch, bearing, and strut mount all go together as they're supposed to. Once the car is on the ground, bounce it a few times to make sure (You'll hear a LOUD pop if they weren't). At this point you should only hear popping noises when turning the steering wheel. I only hear it at low speeds when turning sharp, like in parking lots. If these symptoms don't fit your car, then something else is up. |
