Hi,
I've been on here a while and have made use of all the helpful info on here so far but need advice on my first post about gear cables. I have a 97/P reg ST202 IMPORT, and have noticed a bodge job done on my gear cables... Basically the cables which I believe are the wrong model of from another Toyota make, were supplied and fitted to replace the original but where the cables join the gearbox and is secured with the brackets, it was secured with a dozen cable ties. This is due to the round bung bit does not go all the way through enough for me to insert the brackets in. (pics included) My question is, will the gear cables from an ST205 be the same fitment as an ST202 regardless if its an import or not, as i'm finding it hard to get hold one of an ST202. Many thanks in advance for the replies, etc. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Many thanks in advance for the replies, etc. The previous owner of my ST204 did the same thing. Apparently one cable was replaced with a cable from another model, perhaps a pre-94 celica or an AT200. I ended up buying the GT cables from a member (Malek) on this forum and the fitment was perfect and I was able to use the factory retaining clips to hold them down. The previous owner had done something similar as yours are but with clothes hanger wires tied to a random bolt in the transmission... I'm not a 100% sure but I believe the S54 is the transmission that the ST202 comes with, so the ST204 shifter cables should be the same, because even though the engine is different, the transmission is the same exact one, regardless of RHD, LHD. I would venture as far as to say you should start looking for USDM GT shifter cables with the retainer clips. -------------------- 1993 Celica GT Coupe - sold

I'm assuming its the same as an ST205 but maybe US spec? |
