Hi everybody,
I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to tuning engines to increase speed/horsepower. I have a 94 Celica GT with a 5sfe engine. I want to increase the power but I'm not looking for power that a turbo or supercharger would give. I just want to increase the horsepower by as much possible without turning to a turbo or supercharger. Basically. I just want the Celica to run a bit faster. So my question is: What do I need in order to increase the horsepower/torque of my 5sfe engine without looking into turbos or superchargers? My starting point is exhaust headers but I don't know what else i could get. Thanks! This post has been edited by RyuCelica: Oct 11, 2013 - 8:42 AM |

If I'm going to spend a couple thousand, then I rather do an engine swap and get turbo. I'm just looking to see how I can increase the power without doing too much modifications. I don't want to mess up the engine. I'm looking for the basics that won't require me to change the cams. I'm interested in installing headers, an air intake, and exhaust but I'm not sure the engine can handle any of those mods. From all the answers below, swap is the way to go. Listen to the podcasts too - the earlier ones go through a lot of this stuff. Basically, nothing cheap and bolt-on will give you any worthwhile gains on a 5S IMHO. Any increased with pod filters / exhaust etc. on a stock 5S is just going to make you FEEL faster. Spend money on some good maintenance and just let it run as well as it possibly could from the factory. our engines are not made like the honda engines, in which any bolt ons will give you gains. any bolt on to the 5sfe will give you near to almost no gain, very minimal unless you do some serious spending. air intake, exhaust, or chips, dont waste money if you think youll get 30Hp, If that were the case, our cars would be popular with the tuning crowd, but they are not. expect maybe 2 - 5 hp. You have to pay to play. Swap is the way to go, or extensive engine mods, with aftermarket ecu. -------------------- God made man....
